Cassidy Produces Dominant Lights-to-flag Victory on Rain-soaked Sunday in Shanghai

Al Bawaba02-06-2025
Amid torrid conditions, Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy converted from pole, leading every lap of the race to produce a first win of the season in the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix Round 11 at a rain-soaked Shanghai International Circuit.Cassidy topped a weather-truncated Groups-only qualifying session to seal pole and strode away into an immediate lead, where he was able to stay for the duration of Round 11 in tricky conditions as the rain continued to fall - though less heavily than throughout the morning. The win was a first lights-to-flag victory of the GEN3 Evo era and a return to the top step for the New Zealander.Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein got the better of his teammate through the first round of ATTACK MODE activations; the German leading home António Félix da Costa despite an early slip, as TAG Heuer Porsche capitalised on a Nissan non-score to round out the podium and propel the Stuttgart marque to the top of the FIA Teams' World Championship table - a full reversal after TAG Heuer Porsche failed to score on Saturday.Jake Hughes (Maserati MSG Racing) brought it home fourth, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) fifth and Nico Mueller (Andretti) finished sixth. The second Maserati of Stoffel Vandoorne finished seventh despite pirouetting two laps from the chequered flag, ahead of Robin Frijns (Envision Racing), Lucas di Grassi (Lola Yamaha ABT) and NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard. The difficult conditions caught out a number of other drivers including Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Dan Ticktum and Sam Bird with standing water significant in spots around the circuit throughout the race. Even so, 21 of the 22 cars managed to make it to the end of the race as their race craft was pushed to the limit. The result sees Rowland's lead reduce to 68 points over Pascal Wehrlein (103 points), with da Costa in third (88 points) with only five races remaining this season. Porsche retakes the top spot in the FIA Teams' World Championship running from Nissan, while Nissan leads Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers' World Championship standings.Nick Cassidy, No. 37, Jaguar TCS Racing said: 'This weekend is a massive highlight. Really proud of all our guys. Qualifying form yesterday was huge for us, we were in the game, and I'm just proud that we've come back today and our pace was absolutely unbelievable - what a race. I feel like there have been so many wins that probably should have been ours at the end of last season that never happened, and it feels like we've been waiting a long time. That's certainly on your mind when you go through the last couple of laps, and now to get that monkey off the back is awesome.'
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues in Jakarta with Round 12 on 21 June.

U-23, U-17 squads eye Asian Cup football qualifiers

AMMAN — The national football teams have been going through challenging times as they undertake their respective qualifiers and competitions. While local competitions have already started and expected to be in high gear when the league kicks off this weekend, the U-23 national football held a training camp in Tunisia as they start the countdown for the U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers slated for Amman September 1-9 as well as the Arab Cup later in the year. Jordan will host Group A qualifiers grouping Bhutan, Chinese Taipei and Turkmenistan as a total of 44 teams play in 11 groups, with group leaders and 4 best second place teams for the final 16 spots. The Kingdom has taken part in the U-23 Asian Cup (previously the Asian Championship) 6 times with their best performance finishing 3rd in 2013. They reached the quarterfinals in 2016 and 2020 and were eliminated from the first round in 2018 and 2022 and 2024. The AFC has decided that as of 2028, the event will be held every four years, instead of every two. Previous champions are Iraq 2013, Japan 2016, Uzbekistan 2018, Korea 2020, Saudi Arabia 2022, Japan 2024. Jordan's U-23 players are expected to lead the Kingdom at the upcoming Arab Cup to be held in Qatar December 1-18where they were drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, UAE and the winner of the Mauritania vs Kuwait match. On the other hand, the U-17 team ended their training camp in Serbia for upcoming AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in November. The team was impressive beating Kuwait 3-1, Bosnia 4-1 and tying Montenegro 0-0. The AFC has changed the qualifying format whereby 9 teams will move to the finals: Uzbekistan, Saudi, South Korea, North Korea, Tajikistan, Japan, UAE, Indonesia, Qatar, while 34 teams will play in 7 groups with only the group winners qualifying. In other age groups, the U-20 team exited Round 1 of the 2025 Asian Cup, while the U-17 team had earlier exited the qualifiers for the U17 Asian Cup. In the women's game, Jordan now 75th in FIFA rankings, was eliminated from Group A qualifiers for the AFC 2026 Asian Cup after losing 2-1 to Iran where a draw could have been enough to qualify to the finals after they beat Lebanon 4-0, Singapore 5-0 and Bhutan 3-0. Coach David Nascimento, who was dismissed when he failed to advance the team for the 2022 finals, was surprisingly contracted to lead the team again ending with the same outcome this year. The Women's Asian Cup will no longer serve as Asian qualifying tournament for the FIFA Women's World Cup but as qualification for AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament as of 2028. On the other hand, the U-20 women's team will play qualifiers for the 2026 Asia Cup in Thailand. Jordan was drawn in Group G alongside hosts Uzbekistan, Bahrainand the Northern Mariana Islands as 33 teams play in 8 groups with group leaders and three best second placed teams advancing to the 12th edition of the event.

Inspired by a building-block-style assembly, this PBV-specialized technology modularizes major components such as body structures, doors, tailgates, and both exterior and interior panels. This enables the flexible development and production of diverse vehicle configurations, while enhancing both design versatility and manufacturing front cabin and first-row structure are standardized across all PV5 variants, while rear-end modules, quarter glass, and roof height can be flexibly swapped like puzzle pieces. This allows Kia to configure up to 16 different PV5 variants using just a handful of modular Kia offers seven base configurations, including passenger (long), cargo standard, cargo long and cargo high roof models. Among them, the cargo long variant is created based on the cargo standard model: by moving the rear overhang module to the back of the platform and inserting a long-body module. That same long-body base can easily be converted into a passenger model by swapping the quarter glass and tailgate models — demonstrating the system's efficiency and further enhance body flexibility, structural integrity and repairability, Kia has also introduced dual-layer plastic composite rear garnishes with a three-piece design. These can be customized by size, shape and finish to suit different use cases and markets. The composite structure allows damaged sections to be easily and affordably replaced without disassembling the entire rear body improved chassis durability and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) performance, a ring-type exoskeletal frame reinforces the rear of the vehicle, while Long Body variants receive an extended dual-ring exoskeletal structure to enhance stiffness in both the rear-end and overhang the exterior styling has been engineered for efficiency. Two types of stamped steel panels are used, depending on the second row sliding door and quarter glass configurations.
