Hellier to keep investing in Yeovil despite selling

Yahoo02-04-2025

Yeovil Town owner Martin Hellier will continue investing in the National League club until a new buyer is found, says interim chairman Stuart Robins.
Hellier stepped down as chairman on Monday and confirmed plans to sell the Glovers citing abuse he had suffered online from fans. Robins has taken on the role while a new owner is found.
Businessman Hellier took over Yeovil in June 2023 but has been involved in a hostile relationship with sections of the fanbase for some time, including exchanging abuse of his own via social media and issuing banning orders from games.
"We're being supported by the Hellier Group and I've been given some good assurances that that will continue," Robins told BBC Radio Somerset.

Hellier, a long-time Yeovil fan and previous club sponsor through his firm, took over the Glovers during another turbulent period two years ago, following a failed takeover attempt by the SU Glovers and their relegation from the National League.
The club won promotion from National League South at the end of last season and are 14th in the fifth tier.
Accounts released for the 2023-24 season show that debts total £2.8m and Robins said it was now "absolutely critical" that new investment was brought in.
"I don't think we're any different from a lot of clubs at this level and indeed above," Robins said.
"It's not great reading but my major task now is to bring in new investment and that will hopefully bring bigger and even better times to Huish Park and Yeovil Town."
Robins said the past weeks had been "challenging" and that it had "gotten very, very difficult" between Hellier and the fans.
"We're in a position now where we can hopefully move forward and get the Park packed again and the supporters enjoying good days out again," he said.
Robins added he was looking into the banning orders issued by Hellier - the fans behind Gloverscast, an unofficial club podcast, are among those who had been sent letters telling them to stay away from matches.
"It's right at the top of the agenda and we will be addressing that very soon," Robins said.
"I'm a supporter, I've been through it myself as a supporter and I want everyone to be really proud of being part of the club that I and everybody loves, so that's a really high priority as well"

Cubs Announce Kyle Tucker News After Absence From Lineup

Cubs Announce Kyle Tucker News After Absence From Lineup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker is in the final year of his contract. Acquired by Chicago from the Houston Astros this past offseason, Tucker has been among MLB's best hitters this season. Advertisement Entering Tuesday, the left-handed hitting slugger has a .918 OPS that ranks seventh in the National League. His 39 RBIs are tied with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for 13th in the NL, and his 44 runs scored are tied for fourth. All of this is leading to a massive contract for Tucker in free agency if he can remain healthy and productive the rest of 2025. Chicago Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker (30)Sam Navarro-Imagn Images In Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, Tucker exited with what initially looked to be a face injury. Sliding awkwardly into second base, Tucker seemed to hit his face on the dirt. Shortly after his removal, the Cubs announced it was actually a jammed finger on Tucker's right hand that forced his removal. Advertisement As the Cubs begin a series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, Tucker is out of the lineup. This understandably caused concern among the fanbase, but the team announced via manager Craig Counsell that Tucker is not expected to need an injured list stint. This is great news for a Cubs team that enters Tuesday atop the National League Central division with a 37-22 record. The second place St. Louis Cardinals sit four games back of Chicago, giving the 2016 World Series champions a solid cushion as they await the return of Tucker, which Counsell said will be in another day or two. Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong's Rare MLB Feat Places Him 4th on Elite List

Cubs' Pete Crow-Armstrong's Rare MLB Feat Places Him 4th on Elite List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs are rolling in 2025, as their June 3 victory over the Washington Nationals puts them in a tie for the best record in the National League with the New York Mets (who are currently still playing on June 3). Advertisement A big part of the Cubs' 38-22 record is breakout outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is currently polling second-highest in the NL for MVP votes. Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong celebrates an extra-base hit at Wrigley Field in Banks-Imagn Images "Most Valuable Player" is a good way to describe Crow-Armstrong, because he can do a little bit of everything on the baseball diamond. For example, on June 3, the MLB's official X account shared a rare achievement that best displays the rising Cubs star's coveted blend of power and speed. "Pete Crow-Armstrong just stole his 20th base of the season," the MLB account noted on Tuesday evening. Relaying that "he is the 4th-fastest player to reach 15+ HR and 20+ SB in the modern era (since 1900)!" Advertisement Crow-Armstrong achieved this feat in 60 games, according to the MLB, and that puts him in elite company behind 3-time All-Star Bobby Bonds (59 games), early 1900s career-.319 hitter Ken Williams (54 games) and 2-time All-Star and record-holder Eric Davis — who registered 15 HRs and 20 steals in just 40 games. Heading in June 4, Crow-Armstrong is tied for first in stolen bases with Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert. He also ranks ninth in the MLB in home runs and third in RBIs with 51, behind Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers and teammate Seiya Suzuki. If Crow-Armstrong can keep up his torrid pace in 2025, he has a legitimate shot at the MLB MVP award. Why Mets sluggers are using a sledgehammer in the on-deck circle

Why Mets sluggers are using a sledgehammer in the on-deck circle You may have noticed that two players on the New York Mets recently started doing something a bit unusual to prepare for their at-bats. The Mets, who currently have one of the best records in the National League, have two particularly hot bats on their roster with Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo. During their recent series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the two players were seen holding something that looked a bit like a sledgehammer while in the on-deck circle. It is pretty funny to see two baseball players look like construction workers, but there is a perfectly good reason for the decision. According to SNY's Steve Gelbs, this is something that Alonso brought to the team. Here is more from Gelbs: "A very unconventional approach from Brandon Nimmo in the on-deck circle, swinging a sledgehammer. We saw it for the first time yesterday. I asked Nimmo about it. He said it's actually something that Pete Alonso brought to the team. He's had it since spring training and uses it in the batting cages before the games to get set for his swings." According to Gelbs, before the game against the Dodgers, Nimmo asked Mets hitting coach Eric Chavez if there was any rule about bringing it out to on-deck circle. Chavez said there is not so now, two nights in a row, Alonso and Nimmo are using an eight-pound sledgehammer (instead of a baseball donut) to practice their swings.
