Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inagurates Professional Connect 2025
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 17 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated 'Professional Connect 2025' in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, using the platform to warn against the rising spread of superstition in academic and scientific institutions.
Addressing professionals and students, he emphasised the state's commitment to fostering scientific temper through new initiatives, including digital science parks and AI hubs, despite a national decline in research support and rational inquiry.
'Science and technology are not separate from human life. The state is organising such events at a time when there is a concerted political propaganda to promote superstition and undermine scientific temper,' said CM Pinarayi Vijayan at Professional Connect 2025.
CM Vijayan added, 'It is the government's policy to create an ecosystem that fosters technological and scientific knowledge. The boundary between science and superstition is becoming increasingly blurred. Alarmingly, even professionals with scientific knowledge are emerging as proponents of superstition. This is a dangerous trend. We've seen an IIT Director making claims about cow urine, and another teacher instructing students to smear cow dung in classrooms. National science forums have started resembling superstition congresses, and the institutions themselves are becoming objects of ridicule.'
The Chief Minister called for collective societal engagement in preserving rational thinking.
'A transformation cannot be achieved by government intervention alone. Reformers in the past had to engage fiercely to bring about awareness. Today, we need various forms of intervention to raise awareness. Kerala houses India's first digital science park, and we are launching three more with an investment of Rs600 crore.'
Expressing concern over national-level trends in research and education, he pointed to declining support for scientific research.
'Research funding in India remains abysmally low. Worse, what little is available is being misused to validate unscientific ideas. The number of fellowships has been halved, and many benefits to researchers have been slashed. In this bleak national context, Kerala is taking an alternative path--one that promotes real science, research, and critical inquiry. Our vision is to transform Kerala into a major AI hub through strategic initiatives,' said CM Vijayan. (ANI)

"The commission is conducting an inquiry": Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar on Bengaluru stampede
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that a commission has been formed that is currently conducting an inquiry into the Bengaluru stampede incident, where 11 people had lost their lives on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. He further refrained from commenting further on the matter, noting that the state's Home Minister would provide a detailed response. 'The commission is conducting an inquiry. I will not say much. The Home Minister will reply,' said Shivakumar. Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, addressing reporters in Tumkur, reiterated that the matter is under investigation and all details regarding the incident would be made public only after the inquiry is complete. 'Everything will be known after the investigation: who said what, what statements were given earlier, when and by whom,' Parameshwara stated. Earlier today, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi reiterated Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje's scathing remark on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar that they had 'blood on their hands' for their 'irresponsible and insensitive' handling of the crowd outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, which led to a stampede that killed 11 people on June 4 during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. Joshi echoed Karandlaje's statement from a press conference on Saturday, in which she accused the leaders of celebrating despite the tragedy and shifting blame and further called for their immediate resignation. 'That is definitely there. I've seen her statement... They have behaved most irresponsibly... Deaths were announced although the celebration was going on... Police have clearly categorically denied that they cannot provide it; it is a risky thing; you don't do it despite all these things... It is the most irresponsible and insensitive behaviour of both the CM (and the Deputy CM),' Joshi said. His remarks align with Karandlaje's earlier demand, 'You have celebrated after their deaths... You have blood on your hands. Listen, Siddaramaiah, listen, DK Shivakumar, you have blood on your hands... You can't blame the Commissioner... You are also a culprit... I demand Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar resign immediately.' (ANI)

Prashant Kishor is pure businessman, he is here to cheat people: JD(U) MLC Sanjay Singh
Patna (Bihar) [India], June 8 (ANI): JD(U) MLC Sanjay Singh on Sunday criticised Prashant Kishor, founder of Jan Suraaj, calling him a 'pure businessman' who aims to cheat people. Singh accused Kishor of being opportunistic, questioning his credibility and motives and pointed out that Uday Singh, appointed by Kishor as the national president of Jan Suraaj, comes from a political family, contradicting Kishor's stance against dynasty politics. 'Founder of Jan Suraaj, Prashant Kishor is a pure businessman. He is here to cheat people. If we talk about dynasty, the national president he has made, Uday Singh, he also comes from a political family,' Sanjay Singh told ANI. Singh challenged Kishor's assertion that he played a crucial role in Nitish Kumar's 2015 victory, asking where Kishor was from 2005 to 2015 and mocked Kishor's association with Congress, saying he 'held the 'khaat rally' and left the Congress on the 'ghaat',' implying that Kishor's efforts did not yield significant results. 'The CM gave him so much respect, and he says that because of him, Nitish Kumar won in 2015. Where was he from 2005-2015? In 2017, he went to UP, and Congress got 114 seats, and won 7 seats under him. He held the 'khaat rally' and left the Congress on the 'ghaat'. Nobody can form a party from the money and come to power,' he added. He further alleged that his main aim is to convert black money to white money. 'Nitish Kumar brought him and made him chairman. He wanted to become Deputy CM. There is no one so ambitious as Prashant Kishor,' he added. Earlier Prashant Kishor hit out at former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on June 5, saying that while Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief has aspirations for his son, Tejaswhi Yadav to be 'King of Bihar', who did not pass class 9, the children of common people are not getting jobs despite completing graduation. Taking a swipe at the RJD chief, he said that he is only praising Lalu Yadav, and people should learn how to take care of their children from him. 'We need to learn from Lalu Prasad Yadav how to worry about children. Lalu ji's son did not pass the 9th class, but Lalu Yadav is so worried about his child that he still wants him to become the king of Bihar. When we say this, people say that we complain about him. No! We are praising Lalu Yadav,' Kishor said while addressing a public gathering in Bihar's Saran on Wednesday. Kishor is in Saran as part of the 'Bihar Badlav Yatra' (Journey for change in Bihar). He further said, 'You look at your condition. Your child has passed matriculation and graduated, but he is still not getting a job, even as a peon.' Earlier on June 4, during a rally at Taraiya area in Saran, Kishor said that the strong response to his rallies shows the public's shared frustration regarding corruption, which plagues Bihar, and reflects a collective desire for change. 'It's not my personal graph that's rising -- it's the growing aspiration of the people who want to see real change in Bihar. These people gathered here are not my relatives, nor are they from my caste. They come from diverse sections of society. But what unites them is a shared frustration -- everyone is fed up with the corruption that plagues Bihar. There is a collective desire for change,' Kishor told reporters. Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November, however, no official date has been announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI). (ANI)

India poised to become 3rd largest manufacturing hub: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi
Dharwad (Karnataka) [India], June 8 (ANI): Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on Sunday expressed strong confidence that India is on track to transform into a global manufacturing hub, citing the country's supportive environment, abundant resources, and dynamic youth. Speaking at the inauguration of the 3rd Greenfield Unit and Sri Rama Temple built by Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited in Belur Industrial Area in Dharwad, Joshi highlighted India's unprecedented growth in manufacturing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and its emergence as a self-reliant nation across sectors and its potential to become the world's third-largest producer, surpassing challenges faced in 2014. 'India will transform into a global manufacturing hub in the future, as it has a supportive environment, resources and an empowered youth that is required for the manufacturing sector,' the Union Minister stated. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is achieving unprecedented growth in the manufacturing sector today. India today is self-reliant in everything from industry, jobs, education, information technology, transport, and electricity. The import situation that existed in 2014 is no longer there. It is developing as the largest exporting country in the world. Until now, China and Vietnam were the only leading producing countries in the world. Now, India has also joined that list and will emerge as the 3rd largest producer,' he added. Joshi noted the global demand for Indian talent, particularly in Germany, as the country leverages its vibrant youth and resources. 'Today, there is a high demand for Indian youth all over the world, including Germany. Due to the shortage of loyal, educationally qualified employees and technicians, foreign countries are turning to India. India has amazing opportunities in every way, including its vibrant and dynamic youth, resources, and environment, and locals should also take advantage of this,' he stated. Abhijit Khanvilkar, Director of Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited, highlighted local opportunities, stating, 'Skilled human resources were available in Dharwad, but not enough job opportunities were available. We initially set up a unit in Dharwad, which has grown to three units, creating job opportunities for up to 500 persons.' Following the inauguration of the greenfield unit, Joshi also inaugurated the Lord Sri Rama Temple there. Earlier, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam had said that India's manufacturing sector must grow 15 per cent annually to contribute at least 25 per cent to the country's GDP (or USD 7.5 trillion) through Viksit Bharat 2047. According to Joshi, the greenfield unit would help boost industrial growth in the region of North Karnataka and contribute to local employment generation and economic growth. In a post on X, Johsi added that Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited was committed to sustainability and has inaugurated a 155 kWp rooftop solar power plant at its Pune unit, aimed at reducing the company's carbon footprint. He noted that the Dharwad unit had also adopted eco-friendly measures. 'Moments from the inauguration of the Lord Sri Ram Temple and its third greenfield unit built by Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited at Belur Industrial Area, Dharwad, today. This greenfield unit in Dharwad will boost industrial growth in North Karnataka. It will contribute to local employment generation and economic growth. Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited is committed to sustainability and has inaugurated a 155 kWp rooftop solar power plant at its Pune unit. This will promote the use of renewable energy with the aim of reducing the company's carbon footprint. The Dharwad unit has also adopted such eco-friendly measures and has ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification,' Joshi stated in a post on X. The Union Minister was accompanied by former MLA Amrut Desai, former MLC Nagaraj Chhabbi and Abhijeet Khanwilkar, Director of Hodek Vibration Technologies Private Limited, among others. (ANI)
