Another Ravens rookie suffers season-ending injury
The Baltimore Ravens have been dealt a bad hand when it comes to rookies suffering injuries thus far through preseason play. Baltimore lost sixth-round pick Bilhal Kone to a knee injury he sustained in the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, and now they have lost a second rookie cornerback.
Robert Longerbeam was placed on injured reserve on Sunday, the team announced.
"Sixth-round rookie Robert Longerbeam (knee) has been placed on injured reserve after missing the Ravens' preseason opener and Saturday's practice," Clifton Brown of Ravens.com writes. "In a corresponding move, the Ravens signed veteran running back Myles Gaskin on Sunday."
The Ravens still have a quality secondary, with Nate Wiggins and Jaire Alexander set to start on the outside and Marlon Humphrey in the slot. Chidobe Awuzie, T.J. Tampa, and Jalyn Armour-Davis will be the team's primary depth.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani yielded four runs on five hits while pitching a season-high 4 1/3 innings, but Logan O'Hoppe delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Angels swept the season Freeway Series with a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night. Ohtani fanned Mike Trout twice among his seven strikeouts. He also tripled and scored in the first inning, but struck out in his final three at-bats. Will Smith hit a two-run homer and Mookie Betts had two RBI singles for the defending World Series champion Dodgers, who have lost four straight. They've fallen into second place in the NL West behind the San Diego Padres, who arrive at Dodger Stadium on Friday for a weekend series. The sub-.500 Angels improbably swept both three-game series against the Dodgers this season. They've won a franchise-record seven straight over their crosstown rivals. Ohtani mostly looked sharp in his first trip to the Angel Stadium mound since he left it with what turned out to be a torn elbow ligament in August 2023. He gave up a homer to Taylor Ward in the second, but settled in until the fifth. Ohtani left with a 5-4 lead, and the Dodgers' beleaguered bullpen nearly made it stand up despite having five high-leverage arms on the injured list. One inning earlier, Angels rookie Bryce Teodosio robbed Andy Pages of a homer with a leaping catch in right-center. Brock Burke (6-1) pitched the eighth, and Kenley Jansen got his 23rd save. Yankees 1B Paul Goldschmidt has a right knee sprain and may go on IL
NEW YORK (AP) — Paul Goldschmidt has a low-grade right knee sprain and the New York Yankees may place the veteran first baseman on the injured list ahead of his return to St. Louis this weekend. The Yankees will evaluate Goldschmidt during their day off and will decide before Friday's game against the Cardinals if he will be placed on the IL. 'He's dealing with something so we'll see if it's an IL situation,' manager Aaron Boone said after Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota. 'He was pretty sore last night and this morning. Feels like he's doing quite a bit better right now so we'll see.' Goldschmidt was injured chasing down a foul pop by Byron Buxton in the third inning of Tuesday's 9-1 victory. Goldschmidt overran the ball along the dirt track near the Yankee dugout and slipped before making the catch on the grass while slightly falling down. 'When I kind of overran it and dove back, hit my knee on the ground I guess,' Goldschmidt said. 'I felt that it was sore yesterday but obviously was able to play through it.' Goldschmidt stayed in Tuesday's game and hit a double in the seventh before being lifted with the Yankees holding an eight-run lead. 'As I was going to going back to my position, I was like 'that kind of hurt,' but stuff like that happens,' Goldschmidt said. 'So just felt like I could continue to play, which I did and it was fine.' Goldschmidt, who is hitting .404 off left-handed pitching this year, did not start Wednesday and did not pinch hit when Austin Wells batted and struck out against left-handed reliever Kody Funderburk in the seventh. Signed to a one-year, $12.5 million contract in December following six seasons with the Cardinals, the former NL MVP is hitting .276 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs in 112 games this season. He also has a .996 fielding percentage and has been charged with three errors in 745 chances this year. Ben Rice made his 26th start at first base Wednesday and Cody Bellinger has made two starts at first this season. Bellinger has started 273 games at first base during his nine-year career. Liberty outhustled in 83-77 loss to Aces
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jewell Loyd had 21 points and five 3-pointers off the bench and the Las Vegas Aces beat the New York Liberty 83-77 on Wednesday night for their fifth straight victory. It was Las Vegas' first regular-season win against New York since Aug. 17, 2023. A'ja Wilson had 17 points and 16 rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season. Jackie Young added 15 points and Chelsea Gray had 13 for Las Vegas (19-14). Loyd recorded her 26th career game with at least five made 3-pointers — tied for third most in WNBA history with her coach Becky Hammon. Emma Meesseman led New York (21-12) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu added 18 points and Jonquel Jones had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Breanna Stewart (knee), Isabelle Harrison (concussion) and Nyara Sabally (knee) did not play. Loyd and Young each made a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions late in the third quarter. Young was fouled on her shot and made the free throw for a four-point play to give Las Vegas its first lead, 59-58, since it was 33-31.
