REI's fitness sale takes up to 33% off Hoka shoes, Garmin smartwatches and more
REI has launched a new fitness sale this week, packed with hundreds of workout deals across quite a few of CNN Underscored's favorite brands. With up to 30% in savings, you can score deep discounts on editor-favorite Hoka running shoes, best-tested Garmin fitness trackers and more. With nearly 1,000 deals up for grabs, I've shopped through pages of offers to find my favorite 25 discounts in the REI fitness sale. Just act fast! As select sizes and colors are beginning to sell out. Hoka Women's Clifton 9 Running Shoes As I've gotten more into running, I've been eyeing this pair of Hoka shoes after countless coworkers praised them. We loved their plush foam midsoles and lightweight feel for cushioning steps, and with today's sale, I might have to try them out for our review Merrell Women's Agility Peak 5 Trail Running Shoes Save 25% on this pair of trail-running shoes from Merrell. It should be no surprise that the girl with blue hair would be partial to the Frost Blue color, but two other styles are receiving the same discount. Saucony Women's Tempus Road-Running Shoes Saucony's Superfoam padding helps provide an even smoother stride for these road-running shoes. I love the vibrant designs that are anything but boring, not to mention the fact that you can score the lowest price of the year at 30% off. Arc'teryx Men's Norvan LD 3 GTX Shoe These streamlined kicks get right to the point for trail running. They come in a neutral color and offer a water-repellent build thanks to Gore-Tex materials. Save 19% with this rare discount. Altra Women's Lone Peak 6 Trail Running Shoes Save 30% on this pair of Altra shoes ahead of your next trail run. They're waterproof and feature 5mm footbeds with a multidirectional lug pattern for extra traction on nearly any terrain. They feature a stretchy waistband and a recycled polyester build. Outdoor Research Vantage Crop Top This crop top comes in black or pink designs to go with the rest of your summer fitness outfit. It has a compressed fit with stretchy fabric for extra support. Arc'teryx Women's Norvan Crew Shirt I love the oversized fit of this t-shirt. It's meant to keep you comfortable when worn underneath hiking gear and is seeing a rare price cut in select sizes. The North Face Women's Winter Warm Pro Pants I love sharing a good off-season deal, and that's why these pants from The North Face make the cut. You might not wear these until fall or winter, but it's rare to see a 20% price drop from a brand this popular. Arc'teryx Women's Taema Thermal Hoody Wear this thermal hoodie on your way to workout classes on cooler spring mornings. It has dropped to its best price in over a year in three different colors for $20 off. Patagonia Men's 18-Inch Hydropeak Board Shorts This pair of board shorts comes in three fun styles and tons of sizes, so you can add the perfect one to your summer wardrobe. The 24% discount is the best I've tracked all year, making it all the more enticing to snag this lightweight, quick-drying design. Smartwool Men's Intraknit Active T-Shirt When you think of Smartwool, you'll probably picture one of the best base layers in the game for keeping you warm. The brand also makes performance gear to keep you cool, like this Active T-Shirt on sale for 25% off in three colors. Free Country Men's Engineered Swim Shorts Your summer workout routine deserves to take a detour for some pool time. Be ready to swim laps or just beat the heat in this pair of color-blocked shorts at nearly 30% off. They feature a drawstring waistband and zippered back pocket for storing valuables during runs. Garmin Venu 3S The Venu 3S is one of Garmin's best smartwatches, offering a chicer, more stylish design compared to the brand's more rugged fitness trackers. It's the best all-around option if you're looking to balance fitness features with other tech you'd use outside the workout class. Its multiday battery life supports text and app and call notifications, plus all the run-tracking capabilities you'd expect. Garmin Instinct 3 Solar Smartwatch The first discount on Garmin's new solar-powered smartwatch is here. Revealed back at CES 2025, the new Instinct 3 Solar features theoretically never-ending battery life, with its sun-powered design. 10 Teppanyaki restaurants in Singapore for an interactive dining experience [Jun 2025 Update]
Who doesn't like teppanyaki? You get to choose your own ingredients, watch your food being cooked right in front of you, and eat everything while it's still hot. Teppanyaki is a Japanese style of cooking that mainly involves cooking up pieces of seafood, meats and vegetables on a hot pan in front of diners. Here's a list of 10 teppanyaki restaurants in Singapore that you can visit for an interactive dining experience. As someone who's so accustomed to predictable set menus at a teppanyaki restaurant, the Japanese-style no-menu concept at MINSUIZEN RAKU Omakase Teppanyaki reignited that childlike excitement I thought I'd outgrown. The restaurant surroundings feature a serene garden and an illuminated fountain courtyard. Watch chefs perform culinary artistry at the open teppan counter, paired with elegant Japanese tableware for a full sensory immersion. Reservation required to savor the experience — your seat is secured only when booked ahead. Located on the 3rd floor of Frasers Tower in the heart of the CBD, this Taiwan-based restaurant not only has outlets in Taipei and Kaohsiung but also in Japan, Hong Kong, and now, finally, Singapore! The brand has ambitious expansion plans, with upcoming openings targeted in South Korea, the United States, Canada, and China, where they are currently exploring strategic locations. For 3 years, it's been renowned to be the most popular omakase teppanyaki brand in Taiwan, boasting 8,000+ Google reviews globally with an average rating of 4.8 stars. Besides being reputed for offering its customers excellent value, it's also part of the world's largest directly operated omakase teppanyaki chain — now, that's impressive! The chefs utilise the simplest seasoning to emphasise the original taste of premium ingredients. Each dish undergoes over 3 months of continuous testing and multiple evaluations before making it onto the menu. Every 2 months, new creations or subtle adjustments are introduced, ensuring that each visit feels fresh and different. Chef Stanley embarked us on our 12-course S$88++ & S$138++ menu that began with a trio of starters — a 6-hour long simmered lala soup, a truffle-infused angel hair pasta with sakura shrimps and tobiko, and a chawanmushi with truffle paste and a drizzling of Japanese chilli oil. One of the highlights was the grilled Hokkaido Scallop with Mala Sauce and Fried Tofu, finished off with a crowning of opulent salmon roe. Another dish that won us over was the Grilled black tiger prawns — served with their legs on, they were skillet-grilled to a satisfying crisp. The sauce was a sinful but yummy prawn head butter, sautéed and chopped. For the S$138++ menu, it comes with an unctuous and juicy Beef Slider. Sandwiched between 2 fluffy, grilled brioche buns, the meat patty was accentuated by a slice of parmesan crisp that was made on the spot. The slightly savoury and aromatic crisp paired really well with the tasty beef patty that was bursting with flavour. I was also served the luxurious, well-marbled Japanese Kumamato A5 Wagyu. It was flambéed, grilled to our desired doneness, and precisely portioned into bite-sized cubes. The dish was served with a rich red wine sauce and roasted garlic cloves. Each bite melted in my mouth like soft butter, perfuming my palate with an unsurpassed fragrance that's only derived from Wagyu. However, if some customers aren't accustomed to the rich and fatty taste of A5, they can opt for the A4 instead. It comes with slightly less fat and tastes meatier. Dine at MINSUIZEN RAKU Omakase Teppanyaki during your birthday month and enjoy a complimentary signature dessert from the chef as a special birthday treat. It's also a perfect spot to celebrate your wedding anniversary. There are 3 options from their menu starting from S$78++ for you to take your pick. The mid-tier (S$98++) set starts off with a cold salad, a hot appetiser and the Beni Egg Roll, For seafood, choose between the Jumbo Tiger Prawn and Hokkaido Scallop and you'll also enjoy the Aus M5 Wagyu Steak or Aus Lamb Steak. The feast doesn't stop there, you'll also sink your teeth into the Vegetable Volcano, Beni Onion Soup, Garlic Fried Rice, and a dessert. TIFF 50th Edition Kicking Off With Colin Hanks & Ryan Reynolds' New Documentary ‘John Candy: I Like Me'
The Toronto International Film Festival is opening its 50th edition on Sept. 4 with a look back at one of the Great White North's own: legendary SCTV comedic actor-turned-comedy superstar, John Candy in the Colin Hanks directed, Ryan Reynolds produced new documentary, John Candy: I Like Me. That second part of the title, of course, is a nod to Candy's famous line in John Hughes' Planes, Trains and Automobiles, when his goofy character Del Griffith stands up to the cynical Neal Page and exclaims, 'I like me.' One of Candy's big breakout movies stateside was 1984's Splash in which he co-starred with Hanks' father, Tom Hanks. TIFF will run from Sept. 4-14. 'Comedy fans all over the world grew up on John Candy's humor,' said Cameron Bailey, CEO of TIFF. 'We love that John's global career started in Toronto, and we can't wait to share John Candy: I Like Me with everyone at this year's Opening Night Gala premiere. Colin Hanks has made a hugely entertaining film packed with some of Hollywood's biggest stars, but like John, this movie is all heart. For us, it's the perfect way to kick off TIFF's 50th edition.''When you hear the name John Candy, your face lights up. He wasn't just a great actor; he was an even better person. People loved his everyman qualities, but they didn't know how relatable John really was. He went through the same struggles we all do, except now we talk about them. We are incredibly honored to have gotten to know the man better through this process and to bring the real John Candy to audiences starting with his hometown of Toronto,' said Hanks and Reynolds in a statement. John Candy: I Like Me, an Amazon MGM title, will debut on Prime Video this fall. Amazon MGM Studios also fired up SXSW with the Paul Feig directed movie, Another Simple Favor.
