Las Vegas police released bodycam footage and 911 calls tied to alleged Manhattan mass shooter Shane Tamura — including video of officers responding to a reported mental health breakdown at his apartment and an arrest at a local casino.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released the materials late Tuesday citing "extraordinary circumstances" given the mass shooting event last week. In the wake of the killings, the NYPD said Tamura had a documented mental health history.
Tamura, 27, went on a shooting spree with an AR‑style rifle at the 345 Park Avenue office building, where he killed an NYPD police officer, a security guard and two executives before turning the weapon on himself, police say.
In a September 2023 incident, Tamura refused to leave the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa, leading to his arrest. He was gambling at the casino and refused to show identification after winning money.
In the video, Tamura repeatedly asked police whether he was being arrested and why, as he sat in a security room with his hands cuffed. Police could be seen losing their patience with Tamura after explaining the circumstances several times and his delay in providing his name.
"Do you want to just go to jail and be done with this? I'd rather not arrest you, sir," the officer said.
Later, outside the casino, the police took off the handcuffs and told him to leave, but he refused, saying the casino had about $6,000 belonging to him. He was then arrested and put him into a police vehicle.
"I just have to make rent, dude. They took like six grand from me," Tamura told police.
Tamura worked in the security department at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, a company spokesperson told 8 News Now. Tamura's supervisor sold him the rifle for $1,400, with the supervisor's attorney telling the outlet the sale happened in October 2024 and followed all legal channels.
The August 2024 interaction – when first responders entered Tamura's apartment for a health evaluation – came after Tamura's mother called 911 to warn police that her son was suicidal.
The first responders said they would initiate a L2K, or a legal 2000, an admission that sends a person suffering from a mental health episode to a psychiatric facility.
After gathering his belongings and leaving the apartment, Tamura got onto a gurney and was taken away by first responders.
Meanwhile, in another video from May 2023, police pulled Tamura over at a traffic stop for not having a rear license plate on his black BMW sedan. After running his details, police discovered that his license had been canceled, and his registration had expired. They then instructed him to park his car as they were confiscating it. Tamura could be seen apologizing to police and following their instructions.
In a 2022 9/11 call, a family member called police to report that Tamura was threatening to take his own life.
"Did he say how he wanted to hurt himself?" the dispatcher asked."
"He has a gun," the woman replied. "He keeps it locked in a backpack."

LSU football's JT Lindsey surrenders after being accused of allowing murder suspects to stay in his dorm

LSU freshman running back JT Lindsey surrendered to campus police on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on two felony counts of accessory after-the-fact to second degree murder, his attorney told WAFB-TV. He is accused of allowing two individuals — 17-year-old Shemell Jacobs and 18-year-old Keldrick Jordan — wanted on murder charges to stay in his LSU dorm room earlier this year, according to the arrest warrant obtained by the outlet. Jacobs and Jordan are accused of killing 17-year-old Corey Brooks in a fatal shooting in Alexandria, La., in May. 7 JT Lindsey surrendered to campus police on Friday. His bond was set at $5,000 and he was released later on Friday, per WAFB-TV. 7 Shemell Jacobs and Keldrick Jordan are accused of second degree murder. Alexandria Police Department 'On 8/4/25 LSUPD was contacted by the U.S. Marshals Service, asking for help in locating the suspect,' the arrest warrant said. 'LSUPD was able to quickly locate Jacobs via surveillance footage and found him to be in and around Riverbend Hall. At approx. 1815 hrs LSUPD, along with assisting law enforcement agencies, were able to locate both Jacobs and Jordan in apartment 4071 of Riverbend Hall. 'In addition to this, Jacobs had Lindsey's LSU ID on his person and was able to provide Lindsey's personal pin code, which allowed him to come and go from the apartment and dorm building. When reviewing recorded surveillance footage, Lindsey can be seen in the dorm building with Jacobs and Jordan as far back as 7/24/25 and on multiple occasions, Jacobs and Jordan come and go without Lindsey, using his LSU ID to access the building.' 7 JT Lindsey catches a pass during LSU practice on Aug. 1, 2025. WAFB Perret also said Lindsey is not alleged to be involved in 'the alleged crimes of the arrested individuals.' 'JT Lindsey is adamant that he is innocent of any alleged criminal misconduct and any allegations of wrongdoing against him,' Perret said in a statement. 'He is fully cooperating with authorities and looks forward to clearing his name as quickly as possible. …He was unaware that the individuals arrested had committed any crimes or that they had been accused of any crimes, or that they were wanted by the police for questioning when he allowed them to stay at his apartment. 'Had he known that the individuals were accused of any crimes or wanted by the police, he would not have allowed them into his apartment or associated with them in any manner.' 7 JT Lindsey University Images via Getty Images But the arrest warrant alleges that Lindsey did in fact know Jacobs and Jordan — both of whom he was friends with — were wanted for murder, citing an interview with 'an associate of Lindsey.' NYPD to significantly boost cops at Dominican parade after last year's mayhem

The NYPD is significantly boosting the number of cops at the Dominican Day Parade on Sunday — after an unruly crowd and a slashing forced police to shut down the festivities early last year. The 43rd annual cultural celebration – set to run from West 38th to West 55th streets on Sixth Avenue in Manhattan – will have 500 more police officers on the beat than last year, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters Friday. 'Just like every other major parade in New York City, plans are in place to ensure that it will be safe, it will be secure and that it will be peaceful,' Tisch said. 'And the women and men of the NYPD will be out there protecting everyone along the route with a stepped-up presence this year.' A total of 957 unformed police officers and 140 traffic agents will be on hand – not counting the K9 and drone teams also present, according to NYPD Chief of Transit Joseph Gulotta. As an extra safety measure, the NYPD, along with parade organizers, opted to kick off the event two hours earlier this year, at 11 a.m., Gulotta said. The revelry came to a crashing halt last year when the crowd grew boisterous and spectators started jumping the barricades around 46th Street. By late afternoon, a 19-year-old man was busted for allegedly cutting a 65-year-old man on the face and hand with a knife during a dispute just off the parade path, sources said at the time. The NYPD then shut down the parade before it could reach Central Park. 'That was unacceptable, and we will not tolerate it happening again,' Tisch said Friday. 'But we also know that that behavior does not reflect the vast majority of people who came out to celebrate.' Tisch acknowledged that last year, 'We probably underdid the staffing at this parade. 'So that is one thing that we were very intent on fixing for this year, and I think that will lead to great outcomes,' the top cop said. The police presence this year will include 'uniformed officers posted along the route, traffic agents at intersections and crossings, as well as personnel from our Emergency Service Unit, Mounted Unit, K9 and counterterrorism teams,' Tisch said. 'Our auxiliary officers will also be working to support the detail,' she added. 'Our helicopters and our drones will be deployed during the parade to assist our officers on the ground, providing comprehensive coverage in real time. As always, there will be assets that you will see and others that you will not see.' Officers will also be 'out in full force' once the parade wraps up to ensure that any festivities later in the day 'remain peaceful,' Tisch said. As of Friday, there were 'no known specific, credible threats' to the parade, and no indications of 'potential gang-related violence,' Tisch said. 'But as always, the NYPD, along with our law enforcement partners, remain vigilant,' she said. Beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sixth Avenue will be closed to all traffic from 34th to 42nd streets, including all crosstown traffic, Tisch said. Starting at 10:30 a.m., the closure will extend from 42nd to 55th streets, until the end of the festivities. During the parade, pedestrians will only be able to cross at 39th Street, 42nd Street, 45th Street, 48th Street and 51st Street, and only authorized vehicles will be permitted to enter the route.
