It's easy to get excited about the Volkswagen ID.7, as it's an excellent electric saloon. It's often well priced, too, but this is the first time we've spotted the racy range-topping ID.7 GTX Plus version being the cheapest ID.7 available. Advertisement - Article continues below
Scouring the Auto Express Find A Car service, we found Jurni Leasing offering the warmed-up electric saloon for a cool £321.46 a month.
It's a two-year deal requiring a £3,857.52 initial payment, while mileage is capped at 5,000 a year. Need more? It won't sting you – an 8,000-mile deal can be had for just £13.65 extra a month.
The ID.7 is one of our favourite electric saloons, proving to be a very comfortable cruiser with decent range. The cabin, meanwhile, is a return to the days of Volkswagen offering quality and plush-feeling interiors, an area where other ID models have been found sorely lacking.
Naturally, the GTX Plus takes the ID.7 to the next level. The standard car is superbly well equipped, but this high-spec variant adds a range of extra niceties.
Sporty exterior styling, red-piped and GTX-branded Alcantara seats, ventilated massage front seats and heated rear seats, 20-inch alloy wheels and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system are thrown in, while the standard paint colour is mean-looking metallic black.
Another feature added as standard is DCC – Dynamic Chassis Control. This allows you to tweak the suspension either for a softer or firmer ride, while 335bhp from the twin electric motors gives meaty performance.
Being the ID.7 range-topper, the GTX Plus gets the larger 86kWh battery pack, bringing a range of 364 miles.

To be fair, I haven't tried the kitchen sink yet, but over hundreds of miles of driving, I've had a good go at squeezing a whole assortment of items into the new Vauxhall Grandland SUV. That includes: supermarket shops, potted shrubs and bags of top soil, compost and bark-chipping, plenty of luggage, golf clubs and trolley, DIY kit from B&Q, and even an Ikea 'Billy' bookshelf – the ultimate test. But it's not just the flexible boot and folding-down rear seats that are a boon in this comfortable five-seater family vehicle. With its contemporary styling, black roof and tinted rear windows, it looks cool, too. This SUV will grow on you, as it did me. Riding on 19-inch wheels, my 136 horsepower Grandland GS hybrid was powered by a 1.2 litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, connected to a 21kW (28hp) electric motor. The GS trim is the middle of three levels between Design and Ultimate. For everyday use, I kept mine in Sport mode – which was jauntier than the other two options of Eco and Normal. With an acceleration from rest to 62mph in 10.2 seconds, and a top speed of 126mph, it achieves a decent lick on faster roads and for cruising long distances on motorways. It's frugal, too: it will start with well over 500 miles of range on a full tank. But generating additional electric power on the move means that it also does more than 50 miles to the gallon. It's surprisingly nimble, too. While the range starts from £34,755, as driven, my SUV was priced at £37,350 – including £700 for the spectrum blue paint. You can shop around for finance deals and offers and, after a deposit, you could be paying as little as a few hundred pounds a month. I must admit that when, in Germany last autumn, I first tried out the more powerful 213hp battery-powered Grandland Electric (0 to 62mph in nine seconds and a range of 325 miles) along with the petrol hybrid version, I found the latter a bit underpowered. But having lived with the hybrid for a while on UK roads, I've grown to enjoy its virtues. Hopes Of A Deal Are Fading Fast One of the biggest promises of President Donald J. Trump's electoral race was to impose tariffs on foreign imports, and shortly after he was inaugurated for the second time, 'tariffs' quickly became one of the buzzwords of his presidency. When it comes to cars, just about anything produced outside of American borders is going to get a lot more expensive, and due to vastly complex international supply chains, even domestically produced products could be impacted. But there was a glimmer of hope that the president would change – or at least soften – his stance against America's allies in Europe. European Union leaders had publicly expressed this expectation, citing a history of cooperation. However, as the July 9 deadline for tariffs to be further increased approaches, hope is fading, reports Reuters. The U.S. Is Already Reaping Tariff Income The publication spoke to an anonymous official who reportedly noted that hopes of relief are fading faster now that tariffs have come into effect: '10% is a sticky issue. We are pressing them, but now they are getting revenues.' A second source reportedly said the EU still would not accept the baseline rate but acknowledged that it would be difficult to change or abolish the measure. The European Union has also publicly declared that it would not accept double-digit tariffs as the United Kingdom has, but U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has ruled out the idea of any tariffs being lowered under the 10 percent baseline. What makes this worse is that the tariffs don't only apply to finished products; steel and aluminum from Europe face a 50 percent tariff, and that doesn't even include the standalone 25 percent tariff on foreign cars. The good news is that Europe, with a trade surplus of $236 billion with the U.S., needs to continue doing business with the largest economy in the world, so your local BMW dealer isn't closing up shop anytime soon. An EU official is quoted by Reuters as saying that the 10% baseline rate would 'not massively erode competitive positions, especially if others receive the same treatment.' And although hope of a compromise is fading, it hasn't been extinguished just yet. Officially, The Fat Lady Has Yet To Sing As noted by CarScoops, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed that negotiations are still underway, despite President Trump's assertion earlier this week that the EU hadn't been fair thus far. 'We're talking, but I don't feel that they're offering a fair deal yet,' said President Trump. 'They're either going to make a good deal or they'll just pay whatever we say they have to pay.' Von der Leyen said, 'It's complex, but we are advancing – that is good – and I push hard to pick up more speed. So we are mixed in the negotiations, and we will see what the end brings.' The United States government is adamant that its long-standing partners are benefitting more from the status quo than America is, and that mindset means that any price increases as a result of tariffs on EU imports will likely not be small. That said, automakers are working to find ways of absorbing as much of the financial strain as possible, and one way of doing that is by pushing sales of existing inventory with incentives and employee pricing offers.
