Wings trade DiJonai Carrington to Lynx for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, draft pick

Carrington appeared in 20 games with the Wings this season, averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.05 steals. The 27-year-old was named the WNBA's Most Improved Player in 2024.
Carrington, a second-round pick (No. 20) in the 2021 WNBA Draft, spent four seasons with the Connecticut Sun before being traded to Dallas on Feb. 2. In 151 career games with Dallas and Connecticut, Carrington has career averages of 8.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.95 steals in 20.2 minutes per game.

Miller, the No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft, has appeared in 25 games this season, averaging 4.1 points while shooting .476 overall. She appeared in 78 games over three seasons with the Lynx.
Samuelson, who was traded to Minnesota from the Washington Mystics in April, appeared in 16 games with the Lynx and averaged 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
The Lynx lead the WNBA with a 24-5 record. The Wings are in 11th place with an 8-21 record.

Luke Keaschall drove in three runs for the second straight game and the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 9-4 on Wednesday. Keaschell is hitting .393 in his nine-game major league career, which was interrupted in April by a broken arm. He returned on Tuesday and has four hits and six RBIs in his first two games back. Zach McKinstry pulled the Tigers within one with a leadoff homer in the third and Kerry Carpenter's two-run shot put Detroit ahead 4-3 later in the inning. Lee homered in the fourth and the Twins took a 6-4 lead on RBI doubles by Ryan Jeffers and Keaschall in the fifth. Austin Martin and Roden homered off Tyler Holton in the sixth. The Tigers had runners on first and third with one out in the eighth and their 3-4-5 hitters due up. A.J. Hinch sent Jahmai Jones in to hit for Carpenter and Kody Funderburke got him to ground into an inning-ending double play. Keaschall has reached base in his first nine career games, the second-longest streak in Twins history. Glenn Williams reached in his first 13 games in 2005. Each team is off on Thursday before starting the weekend home series on Friday. Twins ace RHP Joe Ryan (10-5, 2.83) is scheduled to start against the Kansas City Royals, while Tigers All-Star LHP Tarik Skubal (11-3, 2.18) will face the Los Angeles Angels.

Dominic Smith hits go-ahead double in 9th as Giants rally for 4-2 win over Pirates
Dominic Smith hit a go-ahead double in the ninth inning, and the San Francisco Giants rallied for a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Jung Hoo Lee hit a one-out double down the right-field line off Dennis Santana (3-4). Smith, pinch hitting for Christian Koss, brought Lee in with another double to right to make it 3-2 and Patrick Bailey extended the lead with an RBI single. Giants reliever Ryan Walker (4-4) struck out the side in the eighth, including Oneil Cruz with two on and two outs. Randy Rodríguez pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. In the top half, Isaac Mattson gave up a leadoff single to Bailey, a one-out single to Rafael Devers and another single to Willy Adames before departing with the bases loaded. Matt Chapman tied it with a sacrifice fly. Nick Gonzales put the Pirates ahead with a two-out single to left in the first. Jerar Encarnación tied it in the fifth with a 442-foot drive to left off a fastball from Andrew Heaney, his second home run of the season after hitting one in an 8-1 win Tuesday. Encarnación will have an MRI on Thursday and Giants manager Bob Melvin said he expects him to miss considerable time with an injured right hamstring. Heliot Ramos started the first inning with a first-pitch single, extending his on-base streak to a career-high 20 games, before Devers was hit by a pitch. Isiah Kiner-Falefa scored on Tommy Pham's sacrifice in the fifth, giving the Pirates back the lead. Robbie Ray struck out eight in six innings for San Francisco, giving up two runs and six hits. Seiya Suzuki and Cade Horton help the Cubs stop sweep with 6-1 win over the Reds
CHICAGO (AP) — Seiya Suzuki homered, Cade Horton threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings and the Cubs prevented a sweep from the Reds on Wednesday, winning 6-1. The sixth-inning solo shot was Suzuki's 27th home run of the season, moving him into a tie with teammate Pete Crow-Armstrong for seventh in the majors and fourth in the National League. The outfielder finished 2-for-2 on the day with a pair of RBIs and a walk, also scoring Nico Hoerner on a third-inning sacrifice fly. Horton (6-2, 3.18 ERA) earned the win after giving up only two hits and striking out six. The 23-year-old Horton has not allowed a run in his last 23 1/3 innings, dating back to July 9 against Minnesota. Chicago's win keeps the Cubs (66-48) in position for a Wild Card berth in the NL, while the Reds (60-55) fell to three games behind the New York Mets, who occupy the final spot. Cincinnati starter Andrew Abbott (8-2, 2.34) allowed four earned runs in 6 2/3 innings. The lefty took his first loss since June 4 after the Reds failed to produce a run at the plate until the ninth.
