Man who died after Waterford house incident named locally
A man in his 70s who died two days after an incident at his home in Waterford city has been named locally as Pat Fitzgerald. This comes as David Norris (35) appeared before a special sitting of Waterford District Court on Sunday, August 3 on a charge of assaulting Mr Fitzgerald causing him harm. Norris, of Assumption Terrace, Rosbercon, New Ross in Wexford, appeared before Judge Miriam Walsh. Garda Donal Donohue of Waterford Garda Station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. Norris is charged with assaulting Mr Fitzgerald causing him harm at St Catherine's Grange, Waterford city on Friday, August 1. That offence is contrary to Section 3 (1) and 3(2) of the Non-Fatal Offences against the Person Act 1997 (as amended by Section 20 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023). Norris was remanded in custody to appear before the court again today. Gardai in Waterford continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Fitzgerald. Mr Fitzgerald was found with injuries and unresponsive at the scene on Friday. An incident room has been established at Waterford Garda Station. Meanwhile, gardai continue to appeal for witnesses. A MAN charged over the stabbing of a Garda on a Dublin city centre street on Tuesday evening has been remanded in custody.
