Fest promotes unique Tempasuk heritage

KOTA BELUD: The colourful Citrawarna Night was among the highlights of Festival Tempasuk 2025, celebrating the ethnic arts and culture of the Tempasuk community. Held over five days beginning Aug 13, the festival features traditional dances, costumes, food, folk games and cultural performances aimed at promoting the unique heritage of the Tempasuk and Kota Belud areas. Festival Chairperson Datin Vinnie Nursyahirah Abdullah said the event served as a platform to showcase the diversity and richness of local traditions. 'This festival brings together various elements of Tempasuk's arts and culture. Historically, Tempasuk was the original name of Kota Belud, and we are proud to highlight the heritage of communities across this region,' she said after the event at the Tempasuk People's Service Centre Square. Among the evening's highlights were performances by popular local artists, Datuk Francis Landong and Leles Koronob, as well as a cultural showcase by the Pentarama troupe from the Sabah Information Department. The event was officiated by Pantai Dalit Assemblyman and Executive Chairman of Innoprise Corporation Sdn Bhd, Datuk Jasnih Daya. The main attraction was the Citra Budaya Etnik Tempasuk Parade, featuring nine teams, seven representing sub-districts within the Tempasuk constituency, and two invited teams from the organising committee, including the Tobilung ethnic group of Kota Belud. Vinnie said each team competed for five awards - Largest Participation, Best Performance, Best Concept, Most Festive Team and Best Teamwork. 'This is the second time the parade has been held, with the first edition in 2022 under a slightly different name,' she added. She expressed hope that the festival would continue to serve as a platform for the Tempasuk community to preserve and promote their customs and cultural identity, while positioning the constituency as a cultural tourism hub. 'We expect around 5,000 visitors throughout the festival. KOTA BELUD (Aug 16): The Colourful Night (Malam Citrawarna) was a key highlight of the Tempasuk Festival 2025, themed around the artistic and cultural imagery of Tempasuk, featuring diverse artistic performances and cultural activities to promote local heritage. Festival chairperson Datin Vinnie Nursyahirah Abdullah stated that the five-day festival, running from August 13, showcases the cultural diversity of Tempasuk and Kota Belud through dance, traditional attire, food, folk games and artistic performances. 'This festival is a celebration bringing together various artistic and cultural elements of the Tempasuk community. Historically, Tempasuk was the original name for Kota Belud, which is why we present cultures from across this region to introduce them to the public. 'Notably, tonight's program features appearances by renowned local artists like Datuk Francis Landong and Leles Koronob, alongside performances by the Pentarama troupe from the Sabah Information Department,' she told the media after the event at Dataran Pusat Khidmat Rakyat N.9 Tempasuk here on Friday. 'This parade is a community focal point, as each team presents its uniqueness while vying for five awards: Largest Participating Team, Best Performance, Best Concept, Most Vibrant Team and Most Cooperative Team. 'This parade competition is the second edition after its debut in 2022, though the name differs slightly,' she added. According to Vinnie, the festival aims to be a platform for the Tempasuk community to elevate their customs and cultures, positioning the Tempasuk State Constituency as a tourism hub while fostering closer ties between locals and visitors. She added that the festival also positively impacts the local economy through vendor booths, exhibitions, collaborations with accommodation providers, and involvement of various service providers. 'We anticipate around 5,000 visitors throughout the festival. This attendance can economically benefit residents via accommodation services, food businesses, and souvenir sales, even within this short period,' she explained. #SHOWBIZ: Siti, Dayang, Aina and Ernie top AIM24 nominations
KUALA LUMPUR: Biduanita Negara Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Dayang Nurfaizah, Aina Abdul and Ernie Zakri are "leaders of the pack" amongst the top five nominees for Anugerah Industri Muzik 24's (AIM 24) 26 categories. They have six to nine nominations each, in five to eight categories. AIM 24 which is supported by the Communications Ministry and organised by the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) will be held at 8.30pm on Sept 13 at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting. At a press conference held at Premiera Hotel in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman yesterday, RIM chairman and AIM24 organising chairman Rosmin Hashim announced that a total of 130 finalists were shortlisted for the 26 categories. "The selection of the five finalists in each category were made by a panel of professional jurors, with the scoring fully audited by certified audit firm Mazars. "The judging process was administered by an independent body, Macomm Management Services Sdn Bhd," he said. The Best Album winner will receive RM200,000 while the Best New Artiste, Best Ethnic Song, Best Nasyid Song, Best Traditional Song, Best Unity Song, Best Local English Song, Best Local Chinese Song, Best Local Indian Song, Best Song and Best Music Video will each receive RM50,000. Winners of 11 selected categories will stand to receive a share of RM700,000 in Creative Content Funds from the Ministry of Communications via MyCreative Ventures (MyCV). Rosmin said that earlier this year, RIM received a total of 682 nominations covering recordings released during the eligibility period of July 1, 2022 to Dec 31, 2024. "The first phase of judging for the Best Song Recording and Best Album Recording categories took place at Timeless Studio on July 14 and 15, followed by the remaining categories at Hotel Majestic Kuala Lumpur from July 21 to 23. "The Best Song judging was held at Timeless Studio on July 29," he said. The judging panel comprises highly qualified local music industry professionals, including composers, lyricists, musicians, singers, producers, arrangers, vocal coaches and video directors. The judging panel is headed by renowned music director Datuk Mokhzani Ismail. The event will be broadcast live on TV2 and RTM Klik. Rosmin said: "Six categories will be announced during the Pre-Awards Ceremony on Sept 12 namely Best Single/Album Cover, Best Album Recording, Best Song Recording, Best Musical Arrangement in a Song, Most Streamed Song and Most Viewed Official Music Video on YouTube. "The remaining 24 major categories will be announced during the awards show." The press conference was also attended by Broadcasting director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman and Communications Ministry senior principal assistant secretary Noreen Iszani Yusak and some of the artistes, composers and lyricists nominated for awards.
