Ariana optimistic national women archers will win medals at 2025 SEA Games
KUALA LUMPUR: National woman archer Ariana Nur Dania Mohamad Zairi is optimistic that her partnership with the team will bear fruit in the form of medals at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand later this year.
According to Ariana, with only a few months remaining, she is confident in the capability and strength of her teammates to be at their best by the time of the biennial games.
"For the 2025 SEA Games, we are targeting to win medals. I don't think it's impossible because our team is quite strong. There's not much difference between us and the other national teams," she said when met recently.
She added that the effort is strongly supported by the Road To Gold (RTG) programme, which has helped improve team chemistry and training, including exposure to overseas competitions, thus enabling the team to build greater confidence when facing opponents.
"So, with support from RTG and the Fast Track programme, we are getting better backing. For example, we've seen a lot of improvement in training and international tournaments. We feel we can win medals," she said.

The trio of national women archers comprises Ariana, Syaqiera Mashayikh, and Nurul Azreena Mohamad Fazil.
Syaqiera also expressed confidence that their trio is highly motivated to contribute medals for the country.
"For me, we want to win medals regardless of the colour. So far, for the women's team event, we haven't won any medals.
"In Hanoi, Vietnam, we didn't win. So, this year in Thailand, we will try our very best. We'll work hard to win medals," she said.
Indonesia are seen as one of the main contenders, in addition to having a higher team ranking than the Malaysian trio at the upcoming games. – BERNAMA

Hot streak thrills Tengku Zafrul, but BAM chief says work's not done
KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has called on national shuttlers to keep their hot streak going after Malaysia bagged four World Tour titles in the past month. The newly appointed BA of Malaysia (BAM) president made the call during his first official visit to the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) training base, a timely morale boost as the national team enjoy their best run in years since Tengku Zafrul took charge on May 10. While downplaying his personal impact, the 52-year-old praised the dedication of national coaches, especially in the doubles department, for the team's recent success. "This success is not because of me," said Tengku Zafrul. "It reflects the work done by the coaches, especially in the doubles. It's not easy to achieve these results, so we're pleased. But there's still more to be done, particularly in singles." Men's doubles world No. 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik led the charge with back-to-back wins at the Thailand Open and Singapore Open. They were joined on the winners' list by world No. 7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun (Malaysia Masters) and women's doubles world No. 3 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah (Thailand Open). Tang Jie-Ee Wei take cues from Dechapol's mental game
KUALA LUMPUR: Thai mixed doubles ace Dechapol Puavaranukroh may be Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's biggest obstacle, but the Malaysian pair also see him as a major source of inspiration on their comeback trail. World No. 4 Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who recently reunited after a brief split, lost to Dechapol-Supissara Paewsampran in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open last week. The Thai world No. 5 now lead their head-to-head record 3-1. Despite the defeat, Ee Wei admitted there's much to admire about Dechapol, the 2021 world champion with former partner Sapsiree Taerattanachai. "Dechapol has a wealth of experience and is very strong mentally.
