Man stabbed in Sydney may have been mistakenly targeted by ‘amateurish' teen contract killers, police say
At about 10.45pm on Thursday 26 June, authorities were called to Driftway Drive in Pemulwuy following reports that a man had been stabbed outside a house.
Officers were told two males dressed in dark clothing and disguises had attacked Luke Manassa, 21, who was with his girlfriend.
Homicide detectives a week later executed search warrants in South Penrith, Mount Druitt and Woodcroft.
A 17-year-old male was subsequently charged with murder and refused bail to appear in a children's court on Friday.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Mount Druitt and also charged with murder. He was refused bail to appear in a children's court on Friday.
Manassa last week managed to get back into his car after the alleged stabbing and drive a short distance before being overcome by his injuries, NSW police said on Friday.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 21-year-old but he died at the scene.
Homicide squad commander Det Supt Joseph Doueihi alleged Manassa was the victim of an 'ambush-style attack where two males dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings lay in wait at a location in Pemulwuy that the victim was attending'.
'Both were [allegedly] armed with machete, hunting-style knives. Luke sustained a number of stab wounds and subsequently succumbed to those injuries.'
Doueihi said police had not identified any motive as to why somebody would want to kill Manassa. He said the 21-year-old was not known to police.
The property Manassa was visiting when stabbed was known to police, the detective alleged.

'This could well be a case of mistaken identity … that is a strong line of inquiry that we continue to pursue,' the police commander said on Friday.
'It's probably too early at this stage to, absolutely, confirm that it was a mistaken identity but [we are] certainly heading towards that.'
The victim's devastated family wanted everyone to know they believed Luke was an innocent party and that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time, Doueihi said. 'That's the family's message.'
Doueihi said the teenagers who had been arrested were 'known to police'. He alleged both had links to western Sydney street gangs.
Doueihi alleged the two teenagers had been 'contracted' to commit the killing. 'By the way this offence was [allegedly] executed by these two young persons, it was very, very amateurish … if anything I'd call it disorganised crime.'
Police said they had seized knives, communication devices, clothing and a vehicle that was allegedly used to leave the crime scene.

Three Albanian men and a British woman are charged over spate of million-pound burglaries in Cheshire's Golden Triangle
Police have charged three Albanian men and a British woman in relation to a spate of high-value burglaries across swathes of England. Cheshire Police detectives swooped on three addresses in Walsall, Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham early on Wednesday and cuffed three men aged between 27 and 30 as well as a 33-year-old British woman. Endrit Nikolli, 27, Kristian Gropcaj, 30, George Pepa, 30, and Jade Tubb, 33, have all been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary between November 2024 and March 2025 and conspiracy to possess criminal property. These relate to 20 offences in Cleveland, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Cleveland, detectives said today. Nikolli has also been charged with an additional count of burglary in connection with a theft in Staffordshire on March 1 2024. Police have been probing dozens of alleged thefts across the country in which around £1m of high value goods were stolen - some allegedly in Cheshire's 'Golden Triangle', a trio of towns beloved by footballers and other celebrities. Nikolli, Pepa and Tubb, of Crabtree Road in Walsall and Gropcaj of Gas Street in Birmingham are in custody ahead of an appearance at Chester Magistrates today. A fourth Albanian man aged 28 was arrested in London on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary on Thursday. He remains in police custody. Morning raids were staged at addresses across the country earlier this week as part of Operation Ambler, a multi-force police investigation specifically targeting Albanian organised crime gangs. Dramatic footage showed uniformed officers shouting 'Police!' as they stormed into a house in the execution of Operation Ambler. In the stunning raids, a man was seen being handcuffed as he lies prone and shirtless in bed. Other clips showed men being led into the back of cage vans. Detectives from Macclesfield CID leading the operation allege that gangs have carried out a large number of 'sophisticated' burglaries that took place over several months at addresses all over the country. The raids would target 'high-value residential premises', police claim. Thieves are thought to have broken in via first-floor windows and doors as they carried out the raids, and went to 'great lengths' to do so across England. Criminals are said to have made off with more than £1million of high-value items in total - £400,000 of it from homes in Cheshire alone - some of which were allegedly recovered during the morning raids. 'On each occasion the offenders have specifically targeted high value properties, breaking in via first floor windows and doors, and ransacking the premises to steal as much as possible. 'In total we believe that the value of the items stolen in the burglaries was more than £1 million, which includes more than £400,000 from the ten homes in Cheshire. 'I hope that (the) arrests provide some reassurance to the victims in the case and also act as a warning to other offenders.' 'Brazen' West Midlands jewellery thief jailed after £16k haul
A "brazen" jewellery thief who would ask to see items in jewellery stores then flee the shop with them has been Dosanjh was jailed for two years at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 27 June after a series of thefts with a haul totalling more than £16, committed thefts at jewellery stores in the Black Country, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton, but was caught when traffic officers stopped him in 33-year-old, of Greenhill Road in Handsworth Wood, had pleaded guilty to nine charges of shop theft. West Midlands Police said Dosanjh's series of heists began on 18 January, when he asked staff at a jewellers in West Bromwich if he could have a look at a gold chain from a display staff member handed the chain over to Dosanjh, who then ran from the store. On the same day, he used similar tactics at a jewellers in Birmingham, again, fleeing with a gold then went on to commit similar offences in Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Solihull, Brierley Hill, Wolverhampton and his spree of thefts came to an end when he was stopped by traffic officers in Oldbury on 19 May after driving a Volkswagen Golf without a license and by officers revealed he was also wanted for the string of theft Paul Bishop of West Midlands Police said: "Dosanjh was charged with nine shop theft offences with eight of them relating to jewellery shops."He was a brazen thief that used the same tactics for each of his offences.
