Buccaneers sign coach Todd Bowles, GM Jason Licht to extensions

June 26 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht to multi-year contract extensions, the NFC South franchise announced Thursday.
Bowles led the Buccaneers to a 27-24 record and three division titles over the last three seasons.
"I am excited to continue working with Jason for years to come as we build on the success we've enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals," Bowles said. "My family loves Tampa and we're looking forward to delivering more great moments for our fans in the coming seasons.
"I also appreciate the confidence that the Glazer Family has shown in my abilities to lead this football team. It is a responsibility I do not take lightly and am honored to have."
Bowles owns an overall record of 53-65 in eight years as an NFL head coach, including previous stops with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
Licht joined the Buccaneers in 2014. They went 2-14 under former coach Lovie Smith in his first season, but went on to win a Super Bowl while led by coach Bruce Arians and quarterback Tom Brady in 2020-21.
"Jason and Todd's leadership has been critical to our organization's success," Buccaneers owner Joel Glazer said. "The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future. "The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships."
Bowles is the fourth coach to work under Licht, joining Smith, Arians and Dirk Koetter. The Buccaneers went 51-33 over the last five seasons, which all included postseason trips. They won their division four times during that span.
"I am very grateful to the Glazer Family for the trust and belief they have shown in what we are doing here," Licht said. "I am also very excited to continue working alongside Todd well into the future as we continue our mission of finding and developing talented players and chasing additional championships for our fans."

Christian McCaffrey has been hurt before in his career, and bounced right back. Yes, he's a little older, but Christian McCaffrey is such a difference maker that I'm not gonna sit here and predict that he's gonna get. Advertisement Injured again because I think he had a bad year last year, just a flukey unlucky year with injuries as most of the 49ers did. And yes, they lose Debo Samuel, but I think Ricky Pearsall was finished last season really strong. I thought, I think Jauan Jennings showed I could be a difference maker receiver. They still have talent and I still have a ton of trust in Kyle Shanahan. I think he's one of the best coaches in the NFL. Yes, their, their defense took some hits, but I thought they added a lot in the draft. To the defense that's gonna help them, help them get younger. I think adding Robert Sala to run the defense is a fantastic move. Advertisement Say what you will about Robert Sala. He was coaching in a clown show environment and the Jets still managed to produce great defenses out there. So I think he's gonna have a positive impact on the 49ers defense. Everything about the 49ers just leads me to believe they're gonna rebound, to what we thought they were going to be. I think last year was a really, really unlucky season, and they're gonna be back to being contenders this year. I, I do think this is just an interesting nugget, no matter how it goes down. Kyle Shanahan has had 4 winning seasons as a head coach and 4 losing seasons as a head coach. Advertisement And when they are good, they average about 12 and 5 as their record in those 4 good years. In those 4 bad records, they average a record of about 5 and 12. So they go from 12 and 5 to 5 and 12. Like this is a, a weird, they've had 4 great years, 4 really bad years under Kyle Shanahan. I I don't know y'all. Like I, I, the, the amount of injuries stacked up, like, I think it's easy to retreat on the 49ers at this point because it's just, it's too much. It, we saw too much last year and it's too much to get out of my brain. I just wonder what all of that does. Now they've paid Brock Purdy. Uh, I mean, we've, we've sort of anointed Kyle Shanahan as somebody that always figures it out. Advertisement He's about fifty-fifty right now and that, that this year will change a lot of that perspective. That's all one way or the other. I'm gonna retreat on the 49ers for the sake of having to do something on this.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Buccaneers signed general manager Jason Licht and coach Todd Bowles to multi-year contract extensions on Thursday. Bucs owner and co-chairman Joel Glazer said in the team's announcement the two have been critical to the team's recent success. "The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future,' Glazer said in a statement. 'The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships.' The team did not provide terms of the extensions. Bowles is coming off his third year as coach in which he led the Bucs to a fourth-straight NFC South title. He was promoted in 2022 after Bruce Arians stepped down following the Buccaneers' Super Bowl LV victory. Bowles had previously served as the team's defensive coordinator for three seasons. His 27 regular-season victories are the franchise's second-best total through three seasons behind Arians. 'I am excited to continue working with Jason for years to come as we build on the success we've enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals. My family loves Tampa and we're looking forward to delivering more great moments for our fans in the coming seasons,' Bowles said in a statement.
