Man nabbed for driving while intoxicated; car's road tax expired, had no insurance
SINGAPORE – A 28-year-old man was arrested for a string of offences, including dangerous driving and driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance , said the police on April 26.
He was also arrested for driving a vehicle without insurance coverage and driving without valid road tax, they added.
Checks on OneMotoring showed that the Mercedes-Benz GLC300 hybrid car's road tax had expired in December 2024.
The police said they were alerted at 12.55pm on April 25 to an accident involving three cars and a motorcycle at the junction of Punggol Field and Edgedale Plains.
The motorcyclist, 34, was taken to the hospital while conscious.
In a video on social media, a white car is seen driving against the flow of traffic.
Subsequently, the same white car is seen with its front-end crumpled, while other cars and a SingPost three-wheeled motorcycle, which is flipped over, appear to be damaged.
Police investigations are ongoing.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in response to queries that they were alerted to the accident along the BKE, towards Woodlands Checkpoint after the Woodlands Avenue 3 exit, at about 6pm. The motorcyclist – a 37-year-old man – was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. His pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. From a video posted to Facebook by a land checkpoints group member, the accident appeared to have affected all three lanes of the expressway leading towards the checkpoint. Two cars that seem to have collided can be seen on the rightmost lane, while a motorbike can be seen lying on its side nearby. Pieces of the vehicles are scattered on the ground. SCDF paramedics can be seen treating a person lying in the middle lane, while two officers stand over what appears to be a body covered by a white sheet on the road shoulder. Police investigations are ongoing. The fatal accident took place on the same day as another accident in the same area of the BKE that saw a 27-year-old motorcyclist taken to the hospital just after midnight. The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident in Yung Ho Road towards Jalan Tukang at 1.05am on June 14. SCDF said it assessed a person for minor injuries, but the person declined to be taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. In a video posted to SGRV's Facebook page, a grey van is seen moving off from a traffic junction when the light turns green. It then weaves between the right and left lanes a few times, before mounting the kerb outside a Certis Cisco building. Another driver is seen rushing to the van to check on the driver, along with two other men wearing helmets, with thick white smoke spewing from the van shortly after. The driver was later arrested, and police investigations are ongoing. The number of people arrested for drink driving increased from 1,663 in 2023 to 1,778 in 2024, while the number of fatal accidents due to drink driving rose from 11 cases in 2023 to 12 cases in 2024, according to the Traffic Police. This was the latest in a spate of accidents near the checkpoint in recent months. The police said they were alerted to the accident involving a motorcycle and a car on the BKE towards Woodlands Checkpoint at about 12.10am .
