SC charges former London Biscuits CEO with falsifying financial statement, corporate records
Based on a statement issued by the SC, Liew faced a total of 13 charges before Sessions Court Judge Azrul Darus and pleaded not guilty to all of them.
On the first charge, Liew is accused of having caused the furnishing of a false financial statement to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on Aug 30, 2019, an offence under Section 369(b)(B) of the Capital Markets and Services Act (CMSA) 2007.
The charge relates to a false statement concerning London Biscuits Berhad's cumulative revenue amounting to RM285,985, which was contained in the company's third quarter financial report for the period ended June 30, 2019.
By virtue of his position as a director and group CEO of London Biscuits Berhad at the material time, Liew is deemed to have committed the offence under Section 367(1) of the CMSA.
Liew faces a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding RM3 million, upon conviction.
Separately, he was also charged with 12 counts under Section 368(1)(a) of the CMSA 2007 for instructing the creation of false sales transactions in the accounting records of London Biscuits Berhad between October 2018 and March 2019.
The total value of the false transactions across all 12 charges amounts to RM2,354,430. Upon conviction, each charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine not exceeding RM1 million.
The Sessions Court allowed bail at RM300,000 with two local sureties for all 13 charges.
Liew was further ordered to surrender his passport to the court and to report to the SC's investigating officer twice a month.

Three men sentenced to death over meth trafficking
JOHOR BARU: Three drug traffickers are facing the gallows after being found guilty of dealing nearly 1.5 tonnes of methamphetamine. High Court judge Justice Abu Bakar Katar handed down the sentence on Pang Ming Siong, 54, Cheng Foot Leong, 46, and Tok Chun Whei, 41, after ruling that the prosecution had proven the amended charge against them beyond a reasonable doubt. The judge found the three guilty of trafficking in 1,483,962.98g of methamphetamine. 'The court finds that the prosecution has proven beyond reasonable doubt that all the accused, with common intent, committed the offence as stated in the amended charge. 'The court therefore finds all the accused guilty and convicts them accordingly,' he said when delivering his decision here yesterday. The accused persons committed the offence at Lot 1162, Kolam Ikan JTM 68 along Jalan Tanah Merah in Taman Desa Cemerlang here at 7.30am on March 19, 2019. The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act. In an unrelated case, a Singapore-based company director pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to four charges of cheating three Singaporeans and a Malaysian of RM155,000 in a company investment scheme a decade ago. Chong Kok Ming, 54, a Singapore permanent resident, is jointly accused with a Singaporean man still at large of deceiving Lim Swee Chong, Lim Swee Joo, Ho Sang Bin and Puah Kot Choon into depositing money into the account of a Malaysian-registered company. According to the charges, the accused allegedly made false promises, inducing the victims to believe they would be registered as shareholders in a local company and entitled to annual dividends. The alleged offences took place at a bank in Jalan Cengal, Taman Makmur, Batu Pahat, on Oct 15, 2014. He was charged under Section 417 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Sessions judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail then set bail at RM20,000 in total for all charges, with one surety, and fixed Sept 17 for case mention. Chong posted bail.

Technician charged with 52 counts of sexually abusing daughter
MELAKA: A technician has claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here to 52 counts of charges including raping, committing physical sexual assault and taking nude photographs of his biological daughter. The 41-year-old's plea was recorded before judge Haderiah Siri yesterday. Under 17 charges of rape, the father of six was accused of committing incest with his 18-year-old daughter, an offence under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years, as well as whipping upon conviction. He also faces 34 charges of intentionally committing physical sexual assault. These offences are punishable under Sections 14(b) and 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act. Sections 14(b) and 14(a) each carry a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and whipping, while Section 16 provides for a jail term of up to five years and a maximum of two strokes of the rotan, if convicted. All 52 offences were allegedly committed between May 12 and Aug 2 this year at a house in Tambak Paya in the Melaka Tengah district. The accused also faces one charge of producing child pornography by taking two nude photographs of his daughter in the bathroom when she was 17 years and 11 months old. The alleged offence took place at the same place on July 9. Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Ehsan Nasarudin proposed that the unrepresented accused be granted bail of RM20,000 for each of the 52 charges, along with additional conditions. These included a prohibition on contacting the victim and prosecution witnesses, reporting to the nearest police station once every two weeks and surrendering his passport to the court. The court granted bail of RM90,000 and imposed all additional conditions sought by the prosecution. The next mention date has been fixed for Sept 18.
