SINGAPORE: After each vote has been counted and election fever has died down, we want to feature a candidate of the four-footed variety, Rufus, a very special Samoyed.
Rufus has aspirations to one day be in Paw-liament, and has even met the highest official in the land, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Screengrab/ Alvin & Rufus
His human, Alvin, told us that Rufus has a 'cheeky political campaign' all of his own, with a growing following on Instagram at @hi.rufus (and you can check him out on TikTok under the same handle, too). @hi.rufus

And what exactly is this brave Samoyed fighting for? Well, we're sure he would love to expound on his 'paw-licies,' but among them are allowing dogs on MRT and public transport and legalising unlimited treats. Screengrab/ Alvin & Rufus Screengrab/ Alvin & Rufus
Now, we don't know about you, but The Independent Singapore can hear barking cheers all around The Little Red Dot from beloved fur babies in HDB estates, condos, and GCBs alike.
Rufus's recent encounter with PM Wong was even caught on camera by a 'paw-parazzi.'
'The meeting with the PM adds a real-world twist to his campaign — a dog influencer with 'paw-werful' dreams meeting the real leader of Singapore,' Alvin told us.
To his supporters, the four-footed candidate has this to say: 'Rufus believes every good boy and girl should be allowed on the MRT and buses — and maybe even lead the Ministry of Treats if belly rubs are part of the job. Thanks for supporting his campaign to make Singapore pawsitively awesome!'
After the May 3 polls, Rufus wrote in a post that he had been disappointed to have lost his deposit, aka a big bag of treats, but was glad to have met PM Wong 'sniffed many friendly Tampines frens, got head pats, and even stole a few snacks, so it's still gud day!' @hi.rufus

Nintendo Switch 2 released in Singapore earlier than expected, but some gamers say they'll wait for prices to drop
Photo: Nintendo SINGAPORE: The Nintendo Switch 2 is released earlier than expected. Instead of the previously mentioned July to September window, players in Singapore can get their hands on the new console from June 26. However, instead of getting excited, some Singaporeans online said they plan to wait for the price to drop or for the new version. One added, 'Wait for one year, [for the] price [to] drop, [and it] comes with more goodies, then buy. Rushing [to buy] a newly launched console doesn't make sense.' CNA Lifestyle reported that retailers Qisahn and GameXtreme have yet to confirm the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 set in the city-state. However, the console has already appeared on platforms like FairPrice and Amazon Singapore, with prices starting from S$769. It's still unclear whether these listings will be local or export sets. A listing on FairPrice, for example, shows the console's origin as the European Union. The Nintendo Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch LCD screen in handheld mode, and when docked and connected to a TV, it supports 4K resolution for compatible games. Meanwhile, the new Joy-Con 2 controllers can now attach magnetically to the console. Each Nintendo Switch 2 standard set comes with the Nintendo Switch 2 console, a pair of Joy-Con 2 controllers, two Joy-Con straps, a Joy-Con 2 grip, a Nintendo Switch 2 dock, a charger with a USB-C cable, and an ultra-high-speed HDMI cable. The new video game console can run compatible physical and digital games from the original Switch. It will also be available in a bundle with the upcoming Mario Kart World. Upcoming games for the new console include Donkey Kong Bonanza, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. /TISG Read also: Netflix launches AI search, new TV app layout following Singapore price increase

'Not bad,' 1st-time busker delighted to earn S$125.30 after 40 minutes
TikTok screengrab/ @rongtinn SINGAPORE: When a woman who tried her hand (or should we say, voice) at busking for the first time earlier this week, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise for her and her keyboardist, thanks to a supportive 'angel' and those who gathered round to watch them perform. Rong Tin documented her experience on TikTok, where she showed that it was more nerve-wracking than probably most of us could ever imagine. @rongtinn Will be busking again this wed (28/5, from ard 7:30-9:30pm) in front of The Cathay! Come find me if you are free ❤️ #sg #busking ♬ original sound – Ronggg While she was 'super excited' about the experience, her first foray into busking did not start out smoothly at all, as the keyboard bag of her accompanist broke just as they left the car and headed outside 313@Somerset mall, where they were set to perform, which made her wonder if it was a 'sign' of things to come that evening. Luckily, the bag was soon fixed by her 'awesome partner,' and they set up soon after. However, she was beset by doubts, thinking, 'What if nobody stops to watch our performance at all? What if we don't get a single cent from today?' The location hardly helped, as she realized while beginning to sing that her voice needed to compete with the other noises in the vicinity, leading her to quip, 'Now I know why nobody actually picks this location.' Nevertheless, not one to give up, they continued singing, and things began to turn when she saw one woman filming them. 'She looks like an angel to me,' she said. And then, another woman dropped a S$50 bill into the keyboard case, which served as their donation box. In her video, Ms Rong thanked the two women, giving them a special shoutout because after that, 'magically,' more people began dropping money into the case, and at one point, a small crowd had gathered around them. They ended at 9:40 p.m. after their speaker ran out of battery, and counted their earnings in the car. Ms Rong and her partner ended up making S$125.30 for their maiden 40-minute performance and headed out to get 'a nice supper' afterward. 'I think that's not bad,' she said, adding that they also got a new speaker from the money they made that night. Ms Rong also performed on Wednesday night in front of The Cathay. Here's a sample of her lovely voice. @rongtinn Want to turn your hobby into a source of income? Download WerkSG now 😀 Not only can u list ur services but also look for plenty of job opportunities! CNA938 Rewind Play In 'Culture Club', Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Agnes Goh, a Singaporean writer, producer and actress about "Living & Remembering", a 20-minute short film inspired by and dedicated to her late father K. H. Goh. "Living & Remembering" is about a young woman who uncovers the sacrifices her father made for his family. The film also shows how the father insists on fulfilling a decade-long promise—a family trip to Japan despite struggling with cancer. Goh will discuss how the film was made, how she dealt with grief while producing and writing the film, and what it was like filming scenes with the actor playing her Dad.
