[UPDATED] KL Tower tussle: Court dismisses contempt bid by ex-operator
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today dismissed a legal bid by Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB) and former KL Tower operator Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd to start contempt proceedings against Communication Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and several others. Judge Roz Mawar Rozain made the ruling after finding that the applicants had failed to establish a prima facie case of contempt against the respondents. The two companies filed contempt proceedings against eight individuals for allegedly disrupting the administration of justice amid ongoing legal proceedings. The eight are – Federal Land Commissioner Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain; Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman; Lim Seong Hai Capital Berhad (LSH) chairman Tan Sri Lim Keng Cheng; LSH chief executive Khairil Faizal Othman; Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; administrative services division secretary Harun Ali; and senior division secretary (management) Mazlan Abd Mutalib. The court also found no merit in the plaintiff's claim that the authorities had wrongfully entered its property after the contract with the government ended on March 31, regardless of how forceful the actions were. "This court is not satisfied that a prima facie case has been established to warrant leave for contempt proceedings to be granted," she said. Roz Mawar awarded RM15,000 in cost to Fahmi and RM10,000 in cost to the other respondents. Meanwhile, the court also dismissed the plaintiffs' application for an interim injunction to stop Fahmi and the government from granting the KL Tower concession to LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd, ruling that the matter had become academic. On March 27, the plaintiffs filed a RM1 billion suit against Fahmi and the new KL Tower concessionaire following the termination of the management agreement. In a statement, MKLSB managing director Datuk Abdul Hamid Shaikh said the injunction aims to maintain the current status quo until the dispute is fully resolved in court. He said that in 2022, Hydroshoppe was invited by the Communications Ministry to become a strategic partner in revitalising MKLSB's operations and ensuring the tower's continued management and maintenance. Abdul Hamid claimed that despite multiple attempts to resolve the matter amicably, the ministry and the new concessionaire have refused to acknowledge the 2022 agreement, leaving MKLSB and Hydroshoppe facing financial and operational uncertainty. He claimed that outstanding payments amounting to RM25 million for maintenance and operational services remain unpaid, and have added further financial strain, MKLSB has managed and maintained KL Tower for nearly 30 years.

RM600k gone: Research officer falls for WhatsApp investment scam
KUANTAN: A 57-year-old research officer from Rompin lost over half a million ringgit of her life savings to a non-existent investment scheme — in less than two months. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the woman was lured in after receiving an initial RM1,000 profit from her first online investment, only to be defrauded of RM600,500 in total. He said the victim was added to a WhatsApp group named "K81 Lombard Stock Investment Academy" on March 21 this year. "She was instructed to download an application via a link shared in the group. Her first investment of RM14,000 generated a RM1,000 return, which was credited into her account along with her capital. "Encouraged by the initial profit, she proceeded to make 28 transactions totalling RM600,500 into three different bank accounts between April 23 and June 4. The app claimed her investment had grown to over RM300,000 in profit," he said in a statement today. However, when the woman tried to withdraw RM50,000, she was told to pay RM200,000 as a "service charge". Realising she had been scammed, she lodged a police report yesterday.

Nintendo Switch 2 scalpers now reselling at twice the launch price
After prolonged shortages of Sony's PlayStation 5 in 2020 created much incentive for resellers to profit from high demand, Nintendo has sought to rule out scalping by partnering with third-party websites in an effort to remove resale listings of the Switch 2. — Photo: Benedikt Wenck/dpa TOKYO: The Switch 2 is out and with it have arrived countless efforts to make money by buying and reselling Nintendo's long-awaited console to desperate gamers at a higher price amid fears of some retailers selling out. Scalpers have been offering pre-orders and purchased units online for up to twice as much as the launch price of US$450/€470 (RM1,906) or US$499/€509 (RM2,114) with the flagship game Mark Kart World . After prolonged shortages of Sony's PlayStation 5 in 2020 created much incentive for resellers to profit from high demand, Nintendo has sought to rule out scalping by partnering with third-party websites in an effort to remove resale listings of the Switch 2. And yet that hasn't stopped resellers on some online marketplaces asking for prices of beyond US$800 or €800 (RM3,389) at the start of sales. The console was out of stock on the manufacturer's My Nintendo Store on the first day of sales and stock was in doubt at some retailers where gamers queued around the block for sales launch at midnight, however in-store pick-ups do appear to be available in retailers in several markets, such as Best Buy in the US and Currys in the UK. Price comparison websites will help you get an overview of availability at different retailers and delivery dates if you want to order online. If you find it too tedious to keep checking for availability, many price search engines will notify you by email when a product is available again. Demand is certainly expected to remain high after launch day on Thursday, and Nintendo says it expects to sell 15 million units of its new Switch 2 gaming console by March 2026. Nintendo had to briefly delay pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the important US market due to import tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. The Japanese company was uncertain whether it would need to adjust the price. In the end, the price of the Switch 2 remained unchanged at US$450 (RM1,906), but Nintendo increased the price of some accessories in the US. The new Switch brings a slightly larger format than its predecessor, with the LCD screen measuring 7.9 inches diagonally. In handheld mode, the LCD screen offers Full HD (1080p) resolution and displays up to 120 frames per second (fps). HDR, ray tracing and DLSS are also supported. The Joy-Con 2 controllers are also slightly larger. They no longer slide into a rail on the side of the device but instead attach magnetically to the Switch. – dpa
