TV fans defend 'unbelievably stupid' crime thriller that's streaming for free
There's a new crime thriller out on Channel 4 which has proven divisive among those that have already watched it. The German drama Hellground – originally titled Höllgrund when it aired in Germany in 2022 – is described as a 'dark' eight-part tale which is set in the seemingly idyllic Black Forest village. That is until the popular village GP dies and the coppers start to think there was some foul play afoot in the death. Then, one murder leads to others –at which point it becomes clear there is indeed something afoot. Local police officer Tanja Hartholz (Lou Strenger) launches an investigation which encompasses the Schwarzwald village's past. The deeper she begins to dig, the more pushback she gets from the community, and the more evident it becomes that this spate of violence is connected to a decades-old event in the village's history. At just thirty minute episodes a pop, this latest addition to Channel 4's Walter Presents platform is one you'll be able to breeze through easily enough. What you make of the show might depend though, since it's garnered mixed reaction from viewers so far. Hellground currently holds a 6.3 rating out of 10 on IMDb. Hellground viewers have taken to Google reviews to share their take on the series, with some criticising elements of the show while others lept to its defence. One of those on the ante camp was Uwe Mohs, who described the show as 'unbelievably unbelievable' and awarded it two stars on account of the show's soundtrack. Mohs wrote: 'The story would be good if it weren't so completely out of touch with reality. All the protagonists' actions are so unbelievably stupid that it's infuriating. Under Fire . 'Fantastic' Channel 4 drama so good fans are already watching for a second time
Channel 4 fans have binge-watched a "dark" new crime series and have already started re-watching for a second time round, it was that good A "dark" new crime series is now available to stream on Channel 4 and fans simply cannot get enough of the gripping thriller - so much so they're already giving it a second viewing. If you're somebody who loves quick 30-minute binge-worthy episodes then this trilling German drama could just be the top TV pick for you this week. Hellground stems around a quaint village called Black Forest, a place where everyone knows everyone but a string of mysterious deaths have been plaguing the small tight-knit town. A local police officer, Tanja, is put on the case to investigate the murderous crimes and is met with a charming young doctor who seems to tally up with the tragic on-goings. Tanja seems to be the only person who truly believes there is something more sinister going on and is hellbent on trying to get to the bottom of the deadly secrets hidden within the peaceful town. But one routine home call could potentially change everything for her and horrific consequences may lay at stake. Despite being new to Channel 4, the show actually garnered lots of attention when it originally aired in Germany back in 2022. The series now joins the UK streaming platform's Walter Presents collection. Those familiar with this Channel 4 offering will already know the collection is brimming with award-winning foreign-language dramas that have been hand-picked by Italian TV producer Walter Iuzzolino. Its synopsis reads: "Welcome to Hellground, where country doctors aren't heroes, they're suspects. In this eerie Black Forest village, a routine house call can have deadly consequences, and a police investigation threatens to unravel the entire community. "When a string of mysterious deaths strikes the peaceful town, local officer Tanja is the only one who senses something sinister beneath the surface. Battling silence and suspicion, she begins to dig and all clues lead to the charming young village doctor, Fabian, whose healing hands may be hiding deadly secrets." Fans who have had the opportunity to tune in already have already left rave reviews online declaring they were already binge-watching the series for a second time. Other viewers on X hailed the production as "great" and very "entertaining". One person penned: "A highly successful German thriller series with fantastic acting, great dialogue, plot, and a great score. Definitely recommended if you like a bit of off-the-wall action. A world-famous techno fest returns to Brooklyn this fall with Sven Väth, Trym and more
The 'Glastonbury of Techno' is making its way back to New York and it's ready to shake the walls of Brooklyn. Time Warp, the globe-trotting German-born festival that's basically Coachella's darker, bass-thumping cousin, will storm the Brooklyn Storehouse on November 21 and 22. For two sleepless nights, the cavernous Navy Yard warehouse will transform into a cathedral of strobe lights, Funktion-One sound and untamed dance energy. For the uninitiated, Time Warp first launched in Mannheim, Germany, more than 30 years ago and has since exported its underground ethos from São Paulo to Santiago, cementing itself as one of the world's most iconic electronic festivals. Its New York edition, produced with nightlife crew Teksupport, has quickly become a rite of passage for techno heads across North America. And the 2025 lineup? Massive. Headlining is none other than Sven Väth, the German pioneer who's been shaping the scene since the early '90s. He's joined by French powerhouses Nico Moreno and Trym, plus Italy's techno queen Deborah De Luca. But the magic isn't just in the solo sets: The fest is known for pairing unlikely DJs together for chaotic, euphoric back-to-backs. This year brings Dennis Ferrer B2B Kerri Chandler, DJ Heartstring B2B Partiboi69 and The Blessed Madonna B2B Mike Servito, all the kind of rare matchups that could become instant legend. The rest of the bill runs deep: Sara Landry, SPFDJ, Kim Ann Foxman, Beltran B2B Ben Sterling, CatLadyHi and Brooklyn favorite Katie Rex all promise to keep the BPMs unrelenting. Whether you're into hypnotic minimalism, industrial hammer kicks or playful house grooves, there's a corner of the lineup with your name on it. The Brooklyn Storehouse, already a favorite among New York's warehouse party faithful, will host two stages each night from 9 pm until sunrise. It's the same sprawling venue where Time Warp set new standards last year, turning an industrial hangar into something between Berghain and Blade Runner. Tickets are already on sale and if history is any guide, they won't last long. (Last year's rave sold out in record time, and fans were begging for resale links on Reddit within hours.)
