IOI Properties' Singapore expansion to drive 9pct earnings uplift in FY26

KUALA LUMPUR: IOI Properties Group Bhd's plan to acquire the remaining 50.1 per cent stake in Singapore-based Scottsdale Properties Pte Ltd is expected to deliver a meaningful earnings uplift and enhance its strategic presence in the city-state.
Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) said the acquisition could contribute an earnings uplift of RM89.5 million or 1.63 sen in earnings per share (EPS) in calendar year 2026 (CY26), representing nearly nine per cent of projected financial year 2026 (FY26) earnings.
"Post-acquisition, net gearing is estimated to rise to 0.93 times from 0.70 times as at June 30, 2024," it said in a note.
Yesterday, IOI Properties announced it is acquiring the remaining stake in South Beach development for S$834 million (RM2.75 billion), taking full ownership of the Grade A office, JW Marriott Hotel, and its retail component.
HLIB said the group's higher gearing remains manageable given its stable recurring income, strong assets, and upcoming real estate investment trust (REIT) listing plan.
The firm also noted that the acquisition involves operational, cash-generating assets unlike previous deals such as IOI Central Boulevard and Marina View, which locked in capital for several years before yielding returns.
"As such, we expect the steady income streams from the South Beach development to sufficiently cover interest obligations, supporting a healthier debt servicing profile," it said.
HLIB has maintained its "Buy" rating for the group with an unchanged target price of RM4.05.
The firm said IOI Properties offers investors a rare diversified market exposure, anchored by its strategic presence in Singapore's resilient and high-value real estate market.
It also holds a deep-rooted position in Malaysia's property sector, which is undergoing a structural uplift driven by economic reforms, infrastructure push, and industrial expansion.
"This diversified footprint provides both defensive stability and growth opportunity, reinforcing IOI Properties' position as a compelling proxy for long-term property sector upside across the region," it added.

Picture taken August 22, 2019. REUTERS/Harrison McClary/File Photo (Reuters) -Genstar Capital is exploring a sale of OEConnection, which it aims to value the automotive software provider also backed by Ford and General Motors at as much as $5 billion, including debt, people familiar with the matter said. The private equity firm has tapped investment bankers at Evercore to advise on the OEConnection sale process, which is expected to launch later this year, said the sources, who requested anonymity to speak about matters that are not public. Genstar declined to comment, while Evercore and OEConnection were not immediately available to comment. Fairlawn, Ohio-based OEConnection, established in 2000 through a partnership involving original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) including Ford and General Motors, provides systems thathelp facilitate the sale and distribution of original replacement parts involving suppliers, dealers, and repair shops. OEConnection generates $200 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), and $400 million in annual revenue, the sources said, adding that the business would likely be valued at more than 20x EBITDA, with estimates ranging between $4 billion and $5 billion. Genstar acquired OEConnection from fellow buyout firm Providence Equity in 2019. As part of that deal, automakers Ford and General Motors retained minority stakes in the company. Sunway iLabs, Cradle Fund team up to launch Startup Deep Tech Ventures Lab

PETALING JAYA: In a strategic leap to supercharge innovation across Southeast Asia, Sunway iLabs, the innovation arm of Sunway Group, is partnering with Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd to launch the Startup Deep Tech Ventures Lab (DTVL) – a transformative six-month co-creation programme dedicated to building and scaling high-impact artificial intelligence (AI) and deep technology startups. The initiative aims to catalyse breakthrough solutions to some of the region's most critical challenges, setting the stage for a new era of technological advancement and entrepreneurial excellence. DTVL which began in July and will runt until December, is tailored for early-stage startups operating at the intersection of science, engineering and impact. Participants will undergo a rigorous and structured journey, including expert-led workshops, personalised mentorship through monthly office hours, investor-readiness sessions, and access to global capital networks, geared towards turning ambitious ideas into market-ready solutions. The programme is backed by a strong coalition of global and local innovation leaders. Core partners include Cradle, Malaysia's focal point agency for early-stage startups under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Deep Tech Labs, a UK-based accelerator and venture capital fund backed by the University of Cambridge, ARM and Cambridge Innovation Capital; Investible, a venture capital firm based in Australia and Singapore focused on climate-tech early stage investment; and CloudMile, an AI and cloud technology company with a strong presence in Malaysia, enabling digital transformation across industries. Further strengthening the programme is a robust ecosystem network of collaborators and enablers. These include prominent venture firms such as Gobi Partners and The Hive Southeast Asia, alongside a consortium of Malaysia's leading academic institutions, including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Sunway University. Additional support comes from national innovation and commercialisation agencies such as Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation and a diverse bench of industry mentors from Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Together, this multidisciplinary coalition is building a launchpad for the region's next generation of transformative deep tech ventures. Twenty startups were selected from a pool of 69 applicants, resulting in a 29% acceptance rate. These startups are tackling urgent global and regional challenges across seven key verticals: artificial intelligence and deep tech, food and water security, health and wellness, intelligent autonomy, semiconductor applications, energy transition, and decarbonisation through carbon capture, innovation, and storage. The programme will culminate in a Pre-Demo Day in September, where all participating startups will present their progress to a curated audience of regional venture capitalists, corporate partners, and policymakers. A shortlist of five to 10 standout ventures will be invited to the final Demo Day showcase in October or early November, providing a public platform to spotlight breakthrough technologies and Malaysia's deep tech leadership globally. 'DTVL embodies our vision to drive deep tech innovation that delivers both commercial success and meaningful societal impact,' said Sunway Group chief innovation officer and Sunway iLabs CEO Matt van Leeuwen. 'By empowering science- and engineering-led startups, we're not just investing in technology – we're investing in solutions that can shape a better future for Malaysia and the region.' 'This is exactly the kind of bold, future-forward initiative our ecosystem needs. Deep tech is about solving real, complex challenges at scale. DVTL reflects the spirit of collaboration we need between government, academia and industry to push Malaysia's innovation frontier. Cradle is proud to be part of this momentum, and we're excited to back founders who are ready to turn breakthrough ideas into global impact,' said Cradle group CEO Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke.

MISC, Bumi Armada cancel their merger deal

KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Bhd and Bumi Armada Bhd have mutually ended their proposed merger. The merger proposal, first announced in November 2024, was envisioned as an all-share transaction to combine the companies' floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) fleets. The goal was to establish a Malaysian-based entity with the scale and resources to compete in the growing and capital-intensive offshore floating production segment. The non-binding memorandum of understanding will lapse on Aug 14, in accordance with its terms. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, MISC said the proposed merger would not fully achieve the intended strategic objectives following evaluation and discussions. "The company will continue with its other growth plans," MISC added.
