Iraqi Olympic cyclist Wahbi Suleiman wins Shanghai Championship
Shanghai (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi Olympic National Cycling Team member Wahbi Suleiman has clinched victory at the Shanghai Cycling Championship in China, topping a field of over 40 riders from various Shanghai clubs. Suleiman won the 70km individual road race.
His triumph came after a month-long intensive training camp in Shanghai, which he attended alongside youth national team cyclist Murtadha Haider. Both represented the UCI (International Cycling Union) Training Center at the championship. Unfortunately, Haider had to withdraw from the race due to an injury sustained in a fall caused by heavy rain during the event.
Ali Hameed, President of the Iraqi Cycling Federation, stated that both athletes significantly benefited from the UCI-supervised camp, which included rigorous training, physiological tests, and lectures from accredited coaches. 'Wahbi Suleiman managed to win the championship title,' Hameed confirmed.
Suleiman's victory in Shanghai highlights the progress of Iraqi cyclists benefiting from international training and competition.

Nineveh Governor Abdulqadir al-Dakhil told Shafaq News, after arriving aboard the aircraft, that the test flight, which departed from Baghdad and landed in under 30 minutes, is part of broader efforts to restore the city's connectivity with the rest of Iraq and international destinations following years of disruption. 'The airport has been prepared in line with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and is now equipped with a modern runway, a fully developed passenger terminal, and an advanced control tower.' The airport's reopening is expected to take place in the presence of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who is slated to arrive on one of the first official flights to Mosul as part of the inauguration ceremony.
