Iraqi Olympic cyclist Wahbi Suleiman wins Shanghai Championship
Shanghai ( – Iraqi Olympic National Cycling Team member Wahbi Suleiman has clinched victory at the Shanghai Cycling Championship in China, topping a field of over 40 riders from various Shanghai clubs. Suleiman won the 70km individual road race.
His triumph came after a month-long intensive training camp in Shanghai, which he attended alongside youth national team cyclist Murtadha Haider. Both represented the UCI (International Cycling Union) Training Center at the championship. Unfortunately, Haider had to withdraw from the race due to an injury sustained in a fall caused by heavy rain during the event.
Ali Hameed, President of the Iraqi Cycling Federation, stated that both athletes significantly benefited from the UCI-supervised camp, which included rigorous training, physiological tests, and lectures from accredited coaches. 'Wahbi Suleiman managed to win the championship title,' Hameed confirmed.
Suleiman's victory in Shanghai highlights the progress of Iraqi cyclists benefiting from international training and competition.
