BRS faults Congress Govt. for not keeping promises made to Dalits, minorities

The Hindu3 days ago
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that Congress has failed to implement the Chevella Declaration, made before the elections, and has stopped giving government procurement contracts to 'Bahujan' (Dalit and tribal) communities.
In a statement, party leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar said on Thursday that the previous BRS Government had introduced Dalit Bandhu scheme to enable Dalits take up businesses and small contracts and had also exempted 40% of the EMD (earnest money deposit) required for contracts.
However, the present Congress Government had not extended that relief to SC, ST contractors in the matter of tenders pertaining to the residential educational institutions. It was the AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge who had announced as part of the Chevella Declaration that Dalit Bandhu amount would be increased to ₹12 lakh from ₹10 lakh.
Similarly, it had also announced an 18% quota to SC communities in the government procurement contracts but had not given even one contract to them during that last 20 months.
Separately, former Deputy Chief Minister Md. Mahamood Ali said the Congress party had made several promises to the minorities before the elections but had failed to keep any of them so far. He reminded the government that it had promised a sub-plan for minorities and enhancement of honorarium for 'imams and muezzins' among many others, but had not fulfilled them so far.

Poll Body Denies Chidambaram's BIG Voter List Claims, Says False Data Floating

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's attempt to link the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar with Tamil Nadu has been called 'absurd' by the Election Commission of India (EC), which today fact-checked his claims about potential mass deletions from the voter list. Earlier, Chidambaram posted on X that while 65 lakh voters in Bihar risk losing their voting rights, reports of adding 6.5 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu were 'alarming and patently illegal.' The EC rejected these allegations as "misleading," clarifying that the SIR has not yet been implemented in Tamil Nadu and accused the leader of spreading 'false figures' regarding the addition of 6.5 lakh voters there. 'It is therefore absurd to connect the SIR exercise in Bihar with Tamil Nadu. Such false statements about SIR should be avoided,' the commission stated. The statements made are Misleading and Baseless#ECIFactCheck Read in detail in the image attached — Election Commission of India (@ECISVEEP) August 3, 2025 Chidambaram had questioned the EC's reasoning behind classifying several lakh voters in Bihar as 'permanently migrated,' which led to their removal from the electoral rolls. He called this designation an insult to migrant workers and said it interfered with the electoral rights of Tamil Nadu voters. The Election Commission explained that under Article 19(1)(e) of the Constitution, all citizens have the right to reside and settle anywhere in India. It is the responsibility of voters to enroll themselves in the constituency where they currently reside and are eligible. For example, a person originally from Tamil Nadu but ordinarily residing in Delhi can be registered as a voter in Delhi. Similarly, someone originally from Bihar but living in Chennai can register there. Chidambaram's post followed the EC's announcement that over 65 lakh enumeration forms were excluded from Bihar's draft electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming assembly polls. This revision reduced the number of registered voters from approximately 7.9 crore to 7.24 crore. According to the EC, 22,34,501 registered voters were found to be deceased, around 36.28 lakh had permanently moved out of Bihar or were not found at their listed addresses, and 7.01 lakh were registered at multiple locations. The Congress leader's criticism came even as the EC reported that no political party filed any claims or objections regarding the draft electoral rolls published in Bihar on August 1. The draft publication has sparked controversy, with opposition parties like the RJD questioning the accuracy and transparency of the EC's data, particularly concerning the number of deceased voters. During the first phase of the SIR, voters received enumeration forms either from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by political parties. Voters were to return these forms with their signatures and valid identification documents. Voters who believe their names were wrongly deleted can appeal to the relevant authorities by September 1 to seek rectification.

Prepare reports for power generation for next 20 years: Bhatti

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed electricity officials to identify 23 locations across the State to bring into large-scale use power from hydel and pumped storage sources, and submit a comprehensive report. He held a review meeting with GENCO and TRANSCO officials at Somasila in Kollapur constituency on Sunday. He reviewed the hydropower projects on the Krishna River from Jurala to Pulichintala, and suggested that if necessary, the services of globally renowned consultants should be utilised. The Deputy CM appreciated the foresight of the Congress government of 1978, which introduced advanced technologies with the help of world-famous Japanese companies like Toshiba and Mitsubishi, conducting deep studies on reverse pumping systems at the time. He praised the visionary thinking of the leaders and engineers of that era. Further, GENCO directors and officials were instructed to draw up plans for sufficient power generation over the next 10 to 20 years in line with increasing demand. "Lilliput": K Kavitha's Insult To Party Leader Heralds Next Row In BRS

New Delhi: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha made a shocking claim today that powerful members of her own party were responsible for inappropriate personal comments made against her recently by MLC Chintapandu Naveen, popularly known as Teenmaar Mallana. Expressing her disappointment about her partymen's silence on the matter, she said it only "exposes their stand towards me". "I have authentic information that those comments were made with the support of some insiders in the party. And the way BRS 'brothers' remained silent even after Telangana society reacted strongly, gave further credence to my information," Ms Kavitha said. "I am aware of how low they have stooped to encourage such comments against me. Your efforts to sideline me and make me lonely will be paid back as I believe in Karma," she said. At a press conference that underscored the deepening rifts within the BRS, Ms Kavitha launched a direct attack on senior party leaders, singling out a specific individual with a stinging new label: "lilliput leader from Nalgonda". Political observers have widely identified the target of her criticism as former minister and Suryapet MLA Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy. "Will the Lilliput leader who caused the party's defeat in Nalgonda district dare to speak about me?" Ms Kavitha had challenged. "If not for KCR, who is that Lilliput? Who leaked the letter that I wrote to KCR?" she had questioned. The reference to Nalgonda is significant, as the BRS suffered a major setback in the district during the recent assembly elections -- a defeat for which Ms Kavitha is now holding the unnamed leader accountable. Ms Kavitha has complained to the Legislative Council chairperson and the state police chief about the alleged derogatory comments made against her by MLC Chintapandu Naveen. Her comments are widely interpreted as being aimed at senior BRS leaders -- including her brother and the party's working president KT Rama Rao. She had called a press conference to announce that she would sit on a 72-hour hunger-strike to demand the implementation of 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in local bodies, education, and employment. The hunger strike, which she said will be a "Gandhian path of peaceful resistance," is planned to take place at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park. The announcement was made in connection with the pending approval of two separate bills for BC reservations that were passed by the state assembly and council. Ms Kavitha said while the Telangana government had promised to take an all-party delegation to Delhi to pressurise the Central government for approval, no such action has been taken. She accused the Congress government of "resorting to rhetoric without taking any concrete steps". This comes at a time when the state government is facing a high court directive to conduct local body elections by September 30. Ms Kavitha stressed that increasing the Backward Classes reservation quota is as crucial as holding the elections on schedule. She questioned why the government had not pursued legal action if the President has not approved the bills for over three months, citing Tamil Nadu's example of a legal fight for a higher reservation quota.
