Aafia Siddiqui is Pakistan's daughter, govt's priority, says FM Ishaq Dar
Addressing the Pakistani community in New York, Dar said that efforts to resolve Aafia's case will continue until a solution is found.
He said this in response to the social media reaction on his earlier statement regarding the incarcerated Pakistani neuroscientist.
Addressing an event in Washington on Friday, responding to a query about imprisonment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Dar had made comparison between incarceration of Imran and Aafia.
He had said if 'due process of the law has resulted in that action [arrest of Aafia],' then the same applies to Imran. 'There's no exception.'

Here in New York when Dar clarified that he was asked about Imran, upon which, he said when the government raises the issue of Aafia's release with the US, it is told that the legal process does not allow for it. He said he just tried to make his point on the PTI founder's arrest as there is also a legal process in Imran's case.
Dismissing the criticism he received, he said that the entire world is appreciating Pakistan's activities in the United States, yet opponents have begun criticising, following which, he said, he had to clarify. He also said, 'If someone doesn't understand English, what is my fault?'
After receiving the backlash, in a statement a day ago, FM Dar had said his comments in the US about the case of Dr Aafia were being 'taken out of context'.
'Our government's stance on the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui's release is clear and unequivocal,' he had said in a post on X.
The deputy prime minister further stated that the government had also written a letter to former US president Joe Biden on the issue of Aafia, and even sought clemency for her from Biden before he left the office. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met her sister two days ago to assure full support, he said, adding that Pakistan has made every effort to secure the release of Aafia Siddiqui.
Dar said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has always supported the release of Aafia, providing all diplomatic and judicial support for her release.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif also spoke to former US president Barack Obama in this regard, he said, adding that the government made immense efforts to secure Aafia's release in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and it continued to do so.

3 PTI lawmakers disqualified over convictions in May 9 cases
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified three Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers over their conviction in the May 9 riot cases, Aaj News reported. In a notification issued on Monday, the ECP confirmed the disqualification of Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar and MNA Ahmed Chattha, and declared their seats vacant. The ECP stated that an anti-terrorism court has found Ijaz Chaudhry guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison, resulting in the disqualification of Chaudhry under Article 63(1)(H) of the Constitution, the notification added. The election watchdog also disqualified PTI Member of National Assembly from NA-66 Wazirabad, Ahmed Chattha, and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar, who was elected from PP-87 Mianwali. According to the Election Commission, a disqualification notification of both members has been issued following the decision of the anti-terrorism court. 'The anti-terrorism court found Ahmed Chattha and Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar guilty and sentenced them to 10 years in prison, the ECP said. Following the notification, the three seats have now become vacant, and a by-election will be held for these seats. It should be noted that anti-terrorism courts recently handed down 10-year prison sentences to PTI leaders involved in the May 9 incidents.

PA turns chaotic after slap sparks scuffle, two MPAs suspended

The slap came after allegations of derogatory language being used by the treasury member, who narrowly escaped. Outside the assembly chambers, reports emerged that some private staff members of the treasury's MPA had used abusive language against opposition MPAs. As a result, Acting Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channer suspended two opposition MPAs for 15 sittings. The incident quickly escalated, with both sides facing off. Some senior lawmakers intervened to calm the situation. Acting Speaker Channer condemned the behaviour, stating, "Dogar Sahib, you did not act appropriately. Such conduct is not tolerable in the assembly." However, Imtiaz persisted with his objection, leading to his suspension for 15 sittings as well. After completing the agenda items, Acting Speaker Channer adjourned the House until 2 pm on July 29. As lawmakers from both sides entered the media hall, another scuffle broke out. However, no physical attacks were reported this time. Outside the assembly chambers, some private members were reported to have shouted and used abusive language against PTI lawmakers. The opposition condemned the actions of the private members, calling them "hooliganism" and stating that they would not bow down to fascism and cruelty despite being cornered.
