Hooters announces shutdown of over 30 restaurants: See full list of which locations closed

Restaurant chain Hooters has taken a surprising step by shutting down more than 30 locations across several states as of June 4. The move marks a significant shift for the brand, known for its casual dining experience and sports bar ambiance.

In a statement to USA Today, the company shared that the stores they own are closed, and it was a rather 'difficult decision.' The statement further revealed, 'Hooters will be well-positioned to continue our iconic legacy under a pure franchise business model. We are committed to supporting our impacted team members throughout this process and are incredibly grateful to our valued customers for their loyalty and dedication to the Hooters brand."
In March, Hooters filed for bankruptcy, but it did not reveal that the stores would shut down in the months to follow. Hooters currently operates 305 locations, with 151 company-owned and 154 run by franchisees. The chain has been quietly scaling back its footprint, with sudden closures reported since at least 2024, which signals the ongoing challenges for the brand.

Social Security June 2025: Stimulus checks could be delayed this month - Here's why

Workers at the Social Security Administration (SSA) are raising concerns that some people might see delays in their payments over the next few weeks. The warning comes as the agency shifts its focus to nearly 900,000 complicated cases. SSA employees told USA Today that this change in focus could mean late or missing checks for thousands of Americans. These delays could affect people making routine updates to their accounts, like changing a bank or home address. This is important because nearly 70 million Americans depend on Social Security each month for essentials like rent, groceries, and healthcare. The agency is currently carrying out changes tied to the Social Security Fairness Act, which was passed under former President Donald Trump's administration. The law gives benefits to people who paid into the system but were previously not eligible—such as teachers, police officers, firefighters, and other public workers. Drew Powers, founder of Illinois-based Powers Financial Group said, "More than 2 million of these cases were straightforward enough to be automated, but the remaining 900,000 claims are more complicated and must be approved by hand," as quoted by Newsweek report. Although the White House says these updates should not affect current Social Security payments, SSA workers say there may still be delays for routine changes, like updating direct deposit info or sorting out Medicaid billing. Employees have been told to prioritize the remaining cases under the Fairness Act. "Using automation, SSA has already expedited over $15.1 billion in long-delayed retroactive payments to more than 2.3 million individuals affected," White House spokesperson Liz Huston said previously. SSA workers also say they've been given a deadline of July 1 to complete the updates, which is creating a backlog and slowing down responses to other types of requests.

Walmart's Sam's Club to remove synthetic dyes from private brand by year end

HighlightsWalmart-owned Sam's Club will eliminate over 40 ingredients, including artificial colors and aspartame, from its private label brand Member's Mark by the end of this year as part of its 'Made Without' initiative. The initiative aligns with the growing health consciousness among consumers, particularly Generation Z and millennials, who are increasingly seeking healthier food options. Other major food companies, including W.K. Kellogg and Tyson Foods, are also reformulating their products to eliminate artificial dyes and respond to health concerns in the food supply. Walmart-owned Sam's Club said on Thursday it would eliminate over 40 ingredients, including artificial colors and aspartame, from private label brand Member's Mark by the end of this year. Under the initiative, called 'Made Without', Sam's Club is altering its food products and beverages to offer items that are in tandem with the evolving dietary preferences of customers as more people, mainly Gen Z and millennials, turn health conscious. The move comes a couple of months after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr laid out plans to remove synthetic food dyes from the U.S. food supply, in a broader move to address chronic diseases and health conditions such as obesity among Americans. Most of the packaged food companies are also working on their existing products as well as on introducing items without artificial dyes. W.K. Kellogg is reformulating its cereals served in schools to not include artificial dyes, and has said it would not launch any products with the dyes beginning next year. Tyson Foods is also "proactively reformulating" food products containing petroleum-based synthetic dyes, which according to the company were to be eliminated from its production process by May end. Sam's Club has already rolled out cookies and snacks without artificial colors. The retailer is also offering fresh sushi as part of its 'Made Without' program.

'We can't build bananas in America': Pennsylvania Rep. Madeleine Dean highlights consumer costs of Trump's trade plan; uses banana in heated exchange

Representative Madeleine Dean holding a banana during a house appropriations committee (Image credits: X @atrupar) US commerce secretary Howard Lutnick was put on the spot Thursday by Representative Madeleine Dean, and a banana, during a House Appropriations committee meeting. Lutnick, a former stockbroker, was defending US President Donald Trump's tariff proposals, arguing they would teach American companies to become more self-reliant. But Representative Dean challenged him with a simple example: bananas. 'Americans, by the way, loooove bananas. We buy billions of them a year. I love bananas. What's the tariff on bananas?' Dean asked. Lutnick responded that the banana tariff 'would be representative of the countries that produce them,' which he said was 'generally 10 per cent.' Dean pointed out that Walmart had already raised banana prices by 8 per cent. Lutnick tried to reassure the committee that prices would drop as countries signed new trade deals with the US, but Dean focused on current realities. ″But the cost is on the American consumer now, and on the businesses with the confusion now,' she said. 'Mr secretary, I believe you know better. I believe you recognize that a trade deficit is not something to fear. I believe you know that predictability, stability, is essential for businesses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secure Your Child's Future with Strong English Fluency Planet Spark Learn More Undo I wish you would show that truth to this administration.' Lutnick added, 'There's no uncertainty that if you build in America and produce your product in America, there will be no tariff.' Dean quickly responded by holding up a banana and stating, 'We cannot build bananas in America.' While bananas can be grown in Hawaii and southern Florida, the current supply isn't enough to meet the demand in the US, where people eat an average of 26 pounds of bananas per year. Later, Dean shared the moment on X, saying she was surprised to find herself 'giving economic lessons to the US commerce secretary.' She followed up by noting, 'Not everything can be produced in the US' The exchange sparked plenty of reaction online, with many praising Dean's pointed use of the banana to make her case.
