Civil servant injured in group assault at Tawau restaurant
In the 12.40am incident, the 30-year-old victim was attacked by more than 10 individuals while having drinks at the premises.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the victim claimed he was struck with a glass and saw an unknown individual brandishing a knife during the attack.
"The victim, who works for a local government authority, said he was unaware of the reason for the assault and has since lodged a police report," he said in a statement.
Following the report, police arrested four local men, aged between 17 and 29, in a series of separate operations yesterday.
The first arrest, involving a 27-year-old man with four prior criminal records related to drugs and mischief, was made at 11.30am at Jambatan 3 Melati, Kampung Pukat, Tanjung Batu Laut.
The second suspect, aged 29, was detained at the Takada Commercial Centre at 12.15pm, while the remaining two — a 17-year-old and a 26-year-old man — were arrested at 12.45pm.
"One of the suspects has five previous convictions under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, while the other two have no criminal record," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Man found dead near railway tracks was strangled, say Hulu Selangor police
HULU SELANGOR: A post-mortem has confirmed that a man whose body was discovered near railway tracks in Sungai Serian, Kalumpang, died from strangulation. Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Ibrahim Husin stated that the victim's identity remains unknown, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. 'There were strangulation marks on the victim's neck, believed to have been caused by a rope. The marks are suspected to match the rope (resembling a chain) worn around the victim's neck,' Ibrahim said in a statement. The body was found by a passerby at around 10.30 am yesterday, with hands and feet bound and the head wrapped in cloth secured with black and white tape. Preliminary investigations suggest the body was likely thrown from the 11.15-metre-high Kampung Sungai Serian bridge. Police estimate the victim had been dead for over four days, and no identification documents were found. 4 students detained over assault of classmate

Kuala Lumpur: Four 13-year-old students have been detained by the police to assist in investigations into the assault of a classmate at a shopping centre in Kajang. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the boys were detained following a report lodged by their classmate at 12.57pm yesterday. He said investigations found that the incident occurred at about 11am on July 30, when the complainant and his classmates went to the shopping centre to address a disagreement. 'During the incident, a viral video captured the complainant being assaulted by two students, while two others recorded the act on their mobile phones,' he said in a statement. Naazron added that the victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The four students involved were arrested in Kajang at 8.35pm yesterday and remanded for two days until Aug 2 to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 of the same law for criminal intimidation, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Naazron advised students to obey school rules and to avoid actions that could affect their future.
