15 FIRs filed in crackdown on power theft in Lucknow
In an effort to curb power theft and reduce line losses, the Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA) carried out a surprise inspection drive in the early hours of Friday. The operation, conducted between 5am and 8am, targeted high-loss feeders in densely populated and sensitive areas of the city.
Inspection teams from the Lucknow city power distribution circle covered several divisions, including Thakurganj, Residency, and Nagram. Localities such as Wazirganj, Basiratganj, Sarfarazganj, Almas Bagh, Marimata, Yaseenganj, Nagram, and Barora were inspected. A total of 81 electricity connections were scrutinised during the drive.
Fifteen cases of electricity theft were detected, with consumers found using illegal methods such as katia connections (direct cable tapping) and meter bypassing. Some individuals reportedly attempted to tamper with evidence during the inspections. As a result, 15 FIRs were filed under Section 135 of the Electricity Act at the Anti-Power Theft police station. Four FIRs were filed in Wazirganj, three in Durvijayganj and Basiratganj, one in Sarfarazganj, four in Baraura, and three in Nagram.
Ramesh Chandra Pandey, superintending engineer of the Chowk division, stated that these surprise checks are part of a broader campaign targeting low electricity consumption anomalies, tampered meters, and unauthorised connections. He confirmed that similar enforcement drives would continue to ensure accountability and reduce line losses.

'Approximately 44 people were administratively arrested, and one arrest for obstruction. The investigation remains ongoing, updates will follow as appropriate," O'Keefe said. However, immigrant advocacy groups claimed there were arrests in seven locations, including two Home Depots, a warehouse in the fashion district and a doughnut shop. US Attorney's Office spokesperson Ciaran McEvoy confirmed that agents served a search warrant at a business suspected of using fictitious documents to employ workers illegally. This operation is part of the Trump administration's nationwide push to arrest undocumented workers and enforce immigration laws. Dozens of protesters gathered outside a federal detention centre in Los Angeles, where they believed those arrested had been taken, chanting, 'Set them free, let them stay!" Other protesters held signs that said 'ICE out of LA!" while others led chants and shouted from megaphones. Officers wearing helmets and holding batons then forced the protesters away from the building by forming a line and walking slowly down the street. Aerial footage showed officers throwing smoke bombs or flash bangs on the street to disperse the people so they could drive away in SUVs, vans and military-style vehicles. Democratic Senator Alex Padilla of California also condemned the operations in a statement, saying that 'the ICE raids across Los Angeles today are a continuation of a disturbing pattern of extreme and cruel immigration enforcement operations across the country." The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, or CHIRLA, a nonprofit immigrant rights advocacy group, estimated that at least 45 people had been taken into custody. 'Our community is under attack and is being terrorised. These are workers, these are fathers, these are mothers, and this has to stop. Delhi: Two juveniles held for stabbing 16-year-old boy to death in Anand Parbat area
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Two juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the stabbing death of a 16-year-old boy in Delhi's Anand Parbat area, police said on Saturday. On June 2, police received information about a grievously injured and unconscious boy lying near Durga Mandir in Taliwalan Basti. A police team reached the spot immediately. As per the statement, an eyewitness informed the police that while he was returning home with the victim, two unidentified boys approached from behind and stabbed the 16-year-old before fleeing. The victim was rushed to RML Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, police said. Following the incident, an FIR (No. 275/25) was registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Anand Parbat, and the investigation began. According to DCP Nidhin Valsan's statement, the police team analysed CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and developed local intelligence. On June 5, based on credible secret information, two juveniles were apprehended. During questioning, the juveniles admitted to their involvement in the incident, as per the police. Based on their disclosure, a blood-stained knife, believed to be the weapon of offence, was recovered from a park near Jeewan Mala Hospital. The case is under further investigation, and the Juvenile Justice Act is processing the accused. In a separate incident, the Delhi Police solved a sensational murder case reported from the Bindapur area and arrested a 24-year-old man, Nitish Dass. The arrest was made by a joint team comprising personnel from the Anti-Narcotics Cell and the Bindapur police station, operating under the Dwarka district. The case came to light on May 9, 2025, when the Bindapur police station received a PCR call in the evening. The caller, Baleshwar Dass, informed police that his son, Akhilesh, had been strangled and his body had been left outside their rented home in Phase-2, JJ Colony, Sector 3, Dwarka. A case was registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation was launched without delay. Given the gravity of the offence, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Subhash Chand of the Anti-Narcotics Cell and Inspector Darshan Lal, SHO of Bindapur police station. The police analysed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas and reviewed the activities of known local criminals. During this process, a suspect--later identified as Nitish Dass--was seen near the crime scene in CCTV footage. On May 11, a head constable from the Anti-Narcotics Cell received a key tip-off through secret informers that confirmed Dass's identity and involvement. After several days of surveillance, the police tracked the accused to Nawada in Bihar. On May 14, a police team apprehended Nitish Dass in Nawada with support from local authorities and brought him back to Delhi for further legal action. (ANI)
