Corus touts new stars, old hits in plans for Global, specialty channels Home, Flavour
TORONTO - Corus Entertainment is touting new stars and returning hits to its flagship channel Global and specialty networks including Home, Flavour, History, National Geographic and Slice.
That includes the first full season of programming for newly branded cooking channel Flavour and design and renovation channel Home, which launched in December after Corus lost rights to carry Food Network Canada and HGTV Canada, now with Rogers.
Among the previously announced shows on the 2025/26 Home lineup are 'Building Baeumler,' starring renovation stars Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, and 'Life is Messy,' a series from Scott Brothers Entertainment about overwhelmed homeowners.
Also on the way this fall are two budget-friendly offerings from Canadians — Natalie Chong with 'Rentovation' and self-taught DIYer Kristen Coutts with 'Beer Budget Reno.'
Flavour Network's Canadian shows include 'Halloween Bakeshop' and 'Holiday Bakeshop,' hosted by Canadian actress and comedian Lauren Ash, and a 12th season of 'Top Chef Canada.'
The Corus plans come as Rogers' detailed plans for HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada that it described as 'bigger and more impactful' than what came before.
Last June, Rogers announced it had scored 'milestone' multi-year deals with Warner Bros. Discovery to secure rights to several lifestyle brands from Corus Entertainment and Bell Media, including HGTV, Food Network and Discovery.
In December, Corus launched Flavour Network and Home Network to replace the channel positions for Food Network Canada and HGTV Canada, which debuted under the Rogers banner in January.
The programming details land after Corus reported a second-quarter loss with revenues down 10 per cent compared to a year ago.
Corus said other returning Flavour shows include 'Morimoto's Sushi Master,' 'Adam Richman Eats Britain,' 'Kitchen Nightmares' and 'Wild Game Kitchen.'
Over on Showcase, Corus' deal with NBCUniversal will bring the Greg Daniels mockumentary 'The Paper,' starring Domhnall Gleeson; the espionage thriller 'The Copenhagen Test' with Simu Liu; and the spy thriller 'PONIES' with Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson. Also coming is the new Sky limited series 'Amadeus,' with Will Sharpe as the musical genius Amadeus and Paul Bettany as court composer, Antonio Salieri.
W Network highlights include the Peacock mystery 'All Her Fault,' with Sarah Snook as a mother whose son goes missing while on his first playdate, and the dark comedy, 'The 'Burbs' starring Keke Palmer, in which a young couple reluctantly move to the husband's childhood home.
Celebrities anchor several new shows including the History Channel's 'WWII with Tom Hanks,' 'History's Deadliest with Ving Rhames,' and 'Hazardous History with Henry Winkler,' while Ryan Reynolds narrates the National Geographic animal series 'Underdogs,' and Slice adds the six-part docuseries 'Tiffany Haddish Goes Off,' which follows the star and her three girlfriends on a trip to Africa.
In children's fare, YTV adds 'The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball,' about a blue cat and his goldfish brother in Elmore, Calif., while Treehouse welcomes 'Thomas & Friends: Sodor Sings Together,' where the engines prepare a musical surprise performance.
On Monday, Corus also detailed high-profile U.S. imports headed to its Global, including CBS' new hour-long crime drama from executive producer Dick Wolf, 'CIA,' starring Tom Ellis as a 'loose cannon CIA case officer.
Also new is the ensemble comedy 'DMV' with Tim Meadows, the singing competition 'The Road,' in which country star Keith Urban tries to discover the next big artist and 'Sheriff Country,' starring Morena Baccarin in an expansion of CBS' 'Fire Country' universe.
Returning fall shows include 'Survivor,' '9-1-1,' 'FBI,' 'Matlock,' 'NCIS,' 'NCIS: Origins' and 'Elsbeth.'
A second season of the Canadian-made 'Murder in a Small Town' will return with Marcia Gay Harden in the cast while homegrown true crime series 'Crime Beat' will launch a seventh season.
Returning mid-season shows include the Global original 'Family Law,' 'Watson' and 'Hollywood Squares.'
Mid-season will also see the competition show 'America's Culinary Cup,' hosted by Padma Lakshmi, a new drama from Taylor Sheridan's 'Yellowstone' family with the working title, 'Y: Marshals' and the unscripted series, 'Harlan Coben's Final Twist,' in which the bestselling author steps into the true-crime television genre.

Excitement mounts as Oilers get set for Game 1 of Stanley Cup final
The anticipation in Edmonton is building as the Oilers prepare to take the ice against the Florida Panthers. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final gets underway on Oilers home ice Wednesday night, and some fans didn't mind traveling for the occasion. On Tuesday, Neil Boyle landed in Edmonton, newly arrived from Oregon. "This is the ultimate lifetime chance to go to a Stanley Cup game. I never thought I would. So I started looking for tickets, found some tickets, got tickets for Game 1 and Game 2 and here we are," he said. Boyle's Canadian connection is through his mother, who was born in Kelowna, B.C. "But I became an Oilers fan primarily because of Gretzky. He was awesome," he said in an interview inside the Edmonton Oilers Team Store. Deepak Sharma, who was also looking at team merchandise, moved to Canada roughly three years ago and started watching the Oilers last year, when the team also made it to the Stanley Cup Final but lost to the Panthers in Game 7. Everyone at his workplace was sporting an Oilers jersey, he said, and he didn't have one; he was trying on jerseys to find a way to support the team. In a tribute to Oilers' players, ice from various Canadian hockey rinks with connections to players on the team was collected through the first-ever This Is Our Ice initiative by Rogers. The thermoses of ice were mixed into the ice-making tank of a zamboni at Rogers Place and used to resurface home ice ahead of Game 1. In Edmonton, it was scraped from a face-off circle at Confederation Arena, where goalie Stuart Skinner used to play. "It's going to be more interesting for the players, if they understand where all that ice came from, to take them back," said Barry Swanson, who works on special projects with City of Edmonton arenas. "Hopefully that takes them back a little bit to some of those days where all of the hard work and all of the traveling and all the fun they had is now paying off and it's now bringing their dreams to fruition hopefully." Meanwhile, in Newmarket, Ontario, viewing parties will be held to watch captain Connor McDavid, who hails from the community, and the team. Newmarket Mayor John Taylor said the community is buzzing with excitement and crowds will be able to gather at what has been dubbed Connor McDavid Square. "We want to give people a way to come together to enjoy the moment. It's a special moment for this community. Hockey is a big deal in Canada and it's a big deal in Newmarket and Connor McDavid is our hometown hero," said Taylor. "To have him hailing here from Newmarket, I think it's an inspiration to all kinds of athletes … So many people have memories of Connor and his family." Quinn Phillips, host of The Bits, a sports podcast, said that there are two things that are different for the team this year compared to last year. "One, home ice advantage. Just being able to be here, they've been so good at home, kind of just be relaxed at home. And then the other thing for me that I think is really important is the experience. You have to learn how to win, and the Oilers have been doing that over many years now," she said. "You can see it in their composure. You can see it in the emotional output that they've given to the other series." Last year, the Oilers were down 3-0 and clawed their way back to force Game 7. Phillips said it will be pivotal for the team to start off strong. "It is an entirely different series emotionally and physically if the Oilers can find a way to win one of those first two games because then you're not digging out of a monster hole that's very difficult to get out of." As for a prediction, Philips points to the number five. "They have five Stanley Cups, they won their last two series in five games, so I am playing on they're going to win this in five. I'm just going with the number five this year being the big number for the Edmonton Oilers," she said with a smile.

Pornhub exits France over age verification law
The owner of Pornhub has suspended access to its website in France because of its objections to a new French law requiring pornographic sites to verify the age of their users, the country's communications regulator said Tuesday. Arcom, the regulator, said in a statement that adult entertainment company Aylo had chosen to 'shirk the requirement of protecting minors' enshrined in digital regulations 'by suspending access to its content in France, including for adults.' That's despite the 'numerous technical solutions on the market (allowing) users' age to be verified while ensuring the protection of their personal data,' the regulator added. Aylo runs several pornography sites and is owned by Canadian private equity firm Ethical Capital Partners. Reuters cited a spokesperson for Pornhub Tuesday as saying that Aylo had also suspended access in France to its sites YouPorn and Redtube. In 2024, France accounted for the second-biggest audience for Pornhub on a daily basis behind the United States, according to the website. Last year, France enacted a law mandating that pornographic sites implement stricter age-verification technology. That could include asking users to provide their bank card details, Arcom said in an October document detailing aspects of the law's implementation. According to French newspaper Le Monde, Aylo has previously argued that users' ages should be checked from their device — such as their smartphone or computer — and should thus be the responsibility of tech companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft, rather than the pornography sites themselves. Neither Aylo nor Ethical Capital Partners immediately responded to a request for comment from CNN. Aurore Bergé, French gender equality minister, said in a post on X Tuesday that Aylo's decision meant 'there will be less violent, degrading and humiliating content accessible to minors in France.' 'Pornhub, YouPorn, and Redtube refuse to comply with our legal framework and decide to leave. Good!' she said. Around the world, jurisdictions are ramping up efforts to protect minors online. In the United States, 19 states — home to more than a third of Americans — have in recent years passed laws requiring pornographic sites to confirm a user's age by checking a government-issued ID or scanning their face, among other methods. The laws have led some of the largest adult sites, including Pornhub, to block users from those states, rather than paying millions for ID-checking services. And, last week, the European Commission launched an investigation into Pornhub and three other major adult websites, accusing them of not complying with regulations designed to protect minors from accessing pornography. The bloc's executive body said in a statement lat week that it is developing an age-verification app to allow people to prove they are older than 18 without revealing other information about themselves online.
