Madurai:
AIADMK
has always stood by farmers and fishermen during difficult times right from the times of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, said party general secretary
Edappadi K Palaniswami
on Thursday.
The party will continue to fight for favourable policies for them and ensure their livelihoods are protected, he told a meeting with representatives of various fishermen and farmers' associations in Ramanathapuram on Thursday morning.
Among the demands put forth by fishermen were a solution to the arrests of Tamil fishermen by Sri Lankan navy and rescuing those languishing in Sri Lankan prisons. "I will do my best to bring the matter to the attention of the central govt and provide help in whatever way possible.
We always take problems faced by farmers and fishermen seriously and take action, unlike DMK," said EPS. He said farmers were being neglected even when they were affected by drought.
Addressing his 'Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' campaign later in the evening at Ramanathapuram and Mudukulathur, EPS said that as many as 806 fishermen were rescued from Sri Lankan prisons, 96 from Iranian prisons, 28 from Qatari prisons, and 11 from Abu Dhabi prisons during the AIADMK period.

"Chief minister M K Stalin and DMK keep on saying they need to get back Katchatheevu, but the reality is that it was Congress who gave it away.
It was AIADMK who went to the Supreme Court under former CM J Jayalalithaa regarding the issue. We will definitely take steps to get Katchatheevu back, unlike DMK," said EPS.
Fishermen of mechanised fishing boats will get better diesel subsidies when AIADMK comes to power, and it will also be ensured that fishermen get adequate compensation during fishing ban periods, he added. EPS said the AIADMK govt was keen to set up check dams for farmers' benefits, but now farmers were suffering due to drought, especially in areas like Ramanathapuram. Earlier in the day, EPS visited a descendant of Ramnad kings, Raja Nagendra Sethupathi, in Ramanathapuram, who recently joined the party.

AIADMK subservient to BJP, DMK is fighting for Tamils, says Stalin

CHENNAI: DMK president and Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday charged that while the AIADMK has become subservient to the BJP by meekly surrendering to it, the DMK has been passionately standing against 'its anti-Tamil and anti-human' machinations. The DMK president, in a letter to the party cadre ahead of the death anniversary of former CM M Karunanidhi on August 7, targeted both the AIADMK and its ally, the BJP. '(Edappadi) Palaniswami, who lacks any basic ideologies, has knelt before the BJP and forged an alliance, much to the disgust of genuine cadre of the AIADMK. Besides leaning on the wrong place (for political alliance), Palaniswami has been unleashing a malicious campaign in his tour,' Stalin said. Taking on the BJP, the DMK president said while the saffron party continues to 'murder democracy using governors', the Tamil Nadu government, through its legal battle, has established that the popular government in the state is more powerful than the governors.

Will take legal route to stop import of voters, says NR Elango

THANJAVUR: DMK's advocates wing secretary N R Elango has said that legal steps will be taken to prevent the inclusion of migrant workers in the poll rolls of Tamil Nadu. He was responding to reporters' apprehension about the probability of migrant workers getting included in the electoral rolls for 2026 election. Elango said the number of migrant workers from other states in Tamil Nadu will be more than 6.5 lakh. 'By adopting correct legal procedures, we will ensure that those who are not eligible are not included in the electoral rolls.' Participating in a training programme, Elango said DMK cadre know about the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. The advocates wing will guide the party cadre in 2026 too like it had done before.

OPS keeps options open for alliance, asks followers to expose BJP, DMK

CHENNAI: Keeping his options open for alliance for facing 2026 election, former chief minister O Panneerselvam on Sunday directed his followers not to speculate about alliance. However, OPS asked his followers to expose the 'anti-Tamil Nadu activities of the central government' as well as the problems faced by the people from the DMK government. This statement of Panneerselvam indicates that he is weighing his options for the poll alliance. A few days ago, after holding discussions with Chief Minister M K Stalin for about 30 minutes, he triggered speculations about aligning with the DMK with his remarks: 'There are no permanent foes or friends in politics. That has been the history. When the elections approach, anything can happen.' In a statement, Panneerselvam said after the demise of former CM J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK has been losing its credibility among the people, facing recurring defeats at the hustings. 'We have been struggling to retrieve the AIADMK from a 'group of betrayers' by establishing the AIADMK Cadres' Rights Retrieval Committee with the hope to win the cases pending before the courts,' he added. Panneerselvam directed his supporters to organise public meetings to expose the 'anti-Tamil Nadu activities of the centre' and the problems faced by the people from the current regime in the state, besides how the AIADMK is being led on a destructive path. However, he did not name Edappadi K Palaniswami. Meanwhile, AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran on Sunday told the media that the national leaders of the BJP in New Delhi should make efforts to bring Panneerselvam back into the NDA-fold. Dhinakaran also said Panneerselvam should withdraw his decision to leave the NDA. Talking to reporters in Chennai and Madurai, Panneerselvam showed the messages he sent to BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran about his wish to meet PM Narendra Modi, who visited Tamil Nadu recently. Already, Nagenthran had said that he indeed approached Panneerselvam a day ahead of the PM's visit to TN, but the latter could not be reached. TTV bats for OPS AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran said BJP's national leaders in Delhi should make efforts to bring Panneerselvam back into the NDA. Dhinakaran also said Panneerselvam should withdraw his decision to leave the alliance
