SFA clamp Rangers 'misleading comments' as John Brown 'corruption' claim row escalates
The SFA have fired back at Rangers after the Ibrox club raged at being hit with a fine over John Brown's controversial Rangers TV comments.
The Ibrox club were sanctioned with a £3,000 after former defender Brown accused Nick Walsh of 'corruption' on Rangers TV.
Brown lashed out at the decision by Walsh and his VAR assistants not to award Nicolas Raskin 's 'ghost goal' against Hibs, his comments enough for the SFA to charge Rangers with a breach of Disciplinary Rule 38, which prohibits clubs publishing material that 'indicates bias or incompetence on the part of such match official'.
As part of their defence, Ibrox lawyers provided numerous examples of rival commentary teams stepping out of line while broadcasting on live games.
And the club, after being notified of the fine, raised concerns in a lengthy statement demanding an explanation.
But the SFA haven't backed down, today issuing a statement which reads: "We note Rangers' response to the determination of a recent independent Judicial Panel Tribunal.
"In the interests of accuracy, we wish to address some of the misleading comments contained therein:
"The sanction imposed by an independent panel was entirely in keeping with the application of the rules.
"The most recent and relevant example of a similar breach, the sanction imposed on Richard Foster of Motherwell FC for comments of a similar nature in the media, attests to that.
"Furthermore, to address the comments regarding 'rationale behind differing outcomes', we wish to point to the fact that investigations were undertaken in previous cases outlined and that the Compliance Officers of the time saw fit to issue a censure by way of warning letter for potential breaches deemed insufficiently serious to be progressed to a Notice of Complaint.
"This system of proportionality has been adopted since the inception of the Judicial Panel Protocol in 2011. Indeed, such discretion was exercised last season when the Compliance Officer wrote to the club to warn of the future conduct of players following matters involving Vaclav Cerny, Dujon Sterling and Mohamed Diomande.
"We also note that Rangers intend to contact the association to seek clarity on the Judicial Panel Protocol and its application. The club is, in fact, already represented on the JPP Working Group.
"We have requested written reasons from the panel chair involved in the tribunal and in the interests of transparency will publish in due course.
"JPP Rule 38 was introduced in response to the referee strike of 2010, when match officials campaigned for greater protection after enduring sustained personal criticism from clubs and fans. Ahead of a new season, we remind clubs of their responsibilities in this regard."

St Mirren are ‘massive underdogs' going into Rangers tie, claims Stephen Robinson
Saints have taken seven points from their last three meetings with Rangers and face a side reeling from a 3-1 home defeat by Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs. Russell Martin is still looking for his first William Hill Premiership win as Gers manager, but Robinson stressed his side will need to play to their best and defy the odds to claim a result. 'Russell's obviously only into the job of building a brand new team,' Robinson said. 'They've shown that they can hurt people, they've shown they've got some really talented players. 'Make no mistake, we're certainly the underdogs and we have to produce our best performance to get a result. 'We have to put that into perspective. Rangers are a huge football club that have spent a lot of money on building their squad. So we should not get anywhere near them. On paper, we shouldn't get anything out of the game. 'But football's not played on paper, as I've alluded to many, many times. But we are very, very respectful of the team that we face. They're a strong side, with players with individual brilliance who can hurt you. 'For me, it would still be a massive result to get any result over Rangers. Obviously, we are massive underdogs.' Despite their form, Rangers are odds-on favourites with bookmakers to win in Paisley, but St Mirren's recent record against them and their three consecutive top-six finishes will furnish the home fans with optimism. 'Fans' expectation always changes,' Robinson said. 'Sometimes, maybe not warranted. Rangers should beat us, they should come and beat us most times that we play. 'There will obviously be shocks. We have to be at our very, very best to get anything out of any game against Rangers or Celtic. 'So I don't think the expectation has changed in terms of what could or should happen. 'But we have defied the odds, if that's what you're meaning, of course. And we'll have to play to that same standard again to do that against a team that's evolving, a team that Russell's put together and only new to the job. So we face a really, really tough task on Sunday.' Robinson's side came within three minutes of collecting a point against the champions on the opening day and knocked Hearts out of the Premier Sports Cup last weekend. 'Certainly, we've got belief against every side,' he said. 'You've seen how we approached the game at Celtic Park, how we approached the game against Hearts, who have spent a lot of money and certainly have got big expectations for this season. 'So we prepare the same against any of those teams. We don't fear anybody.'

That's if he's to start the process of getting many Ibrox fans back on side. The Light Blues then fell to a 3-1 defeat at home against Club Brugge - having been three goals down inside 20 minutes - as their hopes of reaching the Champions League suffered a serious blow. In the league, it hasn't quite gone to plan yet either with the Gers held to 1-1 draws by both Motherwell and Dundee to start the season. That's meant plenty of vocal discontent from the stands, with booing and jeering heard once again at Ibrox in midweek. Many punters also walked out after the third Brugge goal, not even half way through the opening 45 minutes. St Mirren, too, are looking for a first league victory of the campaign. They almost held out for an opening day draw at Celtic Park until the Hoops struck late. A goalless draw against Motherwell followed. St Mirren had success against the Gers last season, winning two and drawing one of their three meetings, including a shock 2-0 win at Ibrox in February that brought an end to Philippe Clement's reign as Light Blues boss. Brendan Rodgers is a human shield for the Celtic board - what incentive does he have to stay? Hotline Live
Daniel Caw and Ryan McDonald tackle the fallout from Wednesday night's Champions League stalemate 'It's negligence at the highest level!' - Celtic's recruitment strategy following Kairat Almaty draw It was a night to forget for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers' side stumbled to a goalless draw with Kairat Almaty. But spare a thought for Michael Nicholson and Peter Lawwell as chants of 'Sack the Board' rang out from all four corners of Parkhead. Frustrations boiled over on Wednesday as fans vented their fury at a lack of signings ahead of a £40million Champions League shootout. That was just one of the hot talking points on Thursday's Hotline Live as Daniel Caw and Ryan McDonald chewed over the fallout - and the potential repercussions - of drawing with the lowest-ranked team left in the competition ahead of a daunting 3,500-mile winner-takes-all trip to Kazakhstan. Supporters aren't just angry at the transfer inaction - they're also demanding answers from a silent boardroom. Rodgers remains the public face of the club, but he's running out of ways to answer the same questions - and journalists are running out of ways to ask them. Meanwhile, custodians have yet to explain why the club has reached this stage of the summer so ill-equipped for the most important fixtures of the season. All this and more was discussed and you can watch the full episode below on our YouTube channel.
