Plans revealed for new 5G masts and equipment in Glasgow's Govan
The site is owned or managed by Cellnex UK, a radio site infrastructure provider, and if approved the apparatus will form part of the operator's new 5G mobile networks.
As part of the development the site will see the removal of six existing antennas and the installation of six new ones.

In a cover letter to the council's planning department, the developer argues there is significant support from the Government.
It reads: 'There is significant UK Government support for the delivery of 5G, particularly as this new connectivity will be a step change from earlier generations of mobile connectivity and will be critical to economic growth and sustainable communities.'
Glasgow City Council has also adopted the Scottish Government's vision when it comes to rolling out 5G which states they must 'act collectively' to ensure all of Scotland – including rural areas – benefit from this revolution.
The 5G strategy hopes to create better, healthier and happier lives for everyone and for Scotland to be at the forefront of the revolution and established as a leading 5G digital nation.
The strategy states: '5G is so much more than an upgrade of previous generations of mobile connectivity.
'It will enable new or enhanced connectivity in the fields of transport, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and remote monitoring – the opportunities are endless. This enhanced connectivity will make us more productive and efficient as a country and play a vital role in the transition to a zero-carbon economy and tackling the climate emergency.'

At an average room rate of £70 per night, visitors will have to stump up an extra £4.90 per night. Any non-resident staying overnight in Aberdeen will have to pay the fee which is expected to bring an extra £6.8 million a year into the city. This money will then be reinvested in the city's tourism sector. Stephen Gow, chair of VisitAberdeenshire, said the city received over 2.2 million overnight visitors last year which generated £500 million. He called the new measures a "well managed scheme" that will "drive continued growth of Aberdeen's visitor economy". He added: 'The headroom for growth in the leisure and conference sectors will be fulfilled through effective investment in promotion, events, and development of the tourism sector." Who will it apply to? The tax will apply to hotels, B&Bs, self-catering accommodation, campsites and caravan parks. For specific events like arts festivals or major conferences, councils will be permitted to adjust the 7 per cent figure. But the type of accommodation subject to the tax won't be able to change. Aberdeen City Council's finance and resources convener, Alex McLellan, said: "The income generated from the visitor levy, paid by those visiting the city, will provide a huge boost to our local economy and allow us to invest in bringing major events and conferences here on a more regular basis." The tax will also support large-scale events, productions and festivals through a special fund. Other tourist taxes Aberdeen is not the first Scottish city to introduce such measures but the 7 per cent rate is the highest so far. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow introduced a 5 per cent levy earlier this year which are due to come into effect in June 2026 and January 2027 respectively. McLellan added that tourists are paying similar amounts per night across Europe. "We should do the same to ensure we can compete in terms of attracting both business and leisure tourism to Aberdeen," he said. The new levies come after the Scottish Parliament introduced legislation to impose a levy on overnight accommodation. There isn't an equivalent law in England but Liverpool and Manchester, for example, have already found alternative ways to raise money in the same fashion. The new charges come as another popular UK destination imposed a tourist tax last month. Holidaymakers who take a trip to Wales will be thumped with an extra £1.30 per night after proposals were given the nod.

Mexican president taps Maria del Carmen Bonilla as deputy finance minister
MEXICO CITY, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has nominated Maria del Carmen Bonilla as deputy finance minister, putting to rest weeks of speculation about who will assume the post. Bonilla, one of several candidates, has overseen the ministry's public credit and international affairs unit since 2021. A congressional committee will vote on Bonilla's nomination on Wednesday, according to a congressional agenda. If confirmed, she will occupy the position vacated in March by Edgar Amador, when Sheinbaum appointed him Mexico's finance minister. According to Mexican newspaper El Economista, Bonilla oversaw the issuance of a $12 billion debt offering to support state-owned oil company Pemex. Bonilla holds a degree in finance from the Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City. She previously served as investment coordinator for the Mexican Social Security Institute and as an asset manager and trader.

Sir Keir Starmer has promised the Government's 'full backing' to get Sunderland's flagship Crown Works Studios project back on track. It emerged earlier this summer that the main private backer behind the £450 million film and TV studio development had pulled out. North East leaders are now pushing to find new investors to ensure that the huge regeneration, earmarked for the banks of the River Wear in Pallion, can go ahead. Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service on Tuesday, the Prime Minister pledged his support in the hunt for new investment that can deliver a project hailed as the biggest boost for the region since the arrival of Nissan. The Government has already put £25 million into the Crown Works plans, via the devolution deal which established the North East mayor last year, while the local authorities have committed to a total public investment of up to £120 million. Asked what support Downing Street had offered since Cain International's withdrawal from the Crown Works deal, Sir Keir said: 'Let me be really clear on this because I know it really matters – we really want to see this landmark project come to fruition. It is such a good project, good for jobs, good for growth. 'We announced £25 million of funding for the studios in the Autumn Statement to support filmmaking and economic growth, and we are working with the mayor [Kim McGuinness] very closely because we need to get private investors to get in behind this. 'I am determined that we will do everything we can to see this project come to fruition. It is really important locally, it is a huge thing, and we need to give it our full backing.' Global entertainment company Fulwell Entertainment, who were behind the Sunderland 'Til I Die Netflix series, had partnered with Cain on the joint venture to build 19 sound stages on the riverside plot. The firm has said it remains committed to working with Sunderland Council to find new funding for the filmmaking hub. It had been hoped that the scheme could create more than 8,000 jobs and Labour's new creative industries strategy specifically highlights the 'game-changing plans for film production in Sunderland'. Planning permission for the development was secured last year, but detailed approval has only been granted for a first phase of building that would include four sound stages, production offices, workshop buildings, and a multi-storey car park. City council leader Michael Mordey has previously said that he expects to have new funding secured by the time that land remediation works at the site are completed later this year.
