‘It's the pinnacle of the year' – Dublin fans celebrate All-Ireland Ladies victory over Meath

It was the Dubs who emerged victorious from the LGFA All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final to claim their seventh such title with a 12-point win over Meath.
A crowd of over 45,000 fans descended on Croke Park to cheer on their teams.
After the match, loud cheers and horns could be heard on all sides of the stadium.
Celebrating the win, Dublin fan Ken Fitzsimons (57), who lives across the road from Croke Park, said 'the ladies were outstanding'.
'Today's game was a great game. The ladies were unbelievable. There's no team in the country that will touch the ladies today, they're outstanding,' Mr Fitzsimons said.
'The atmosphere was great. It was brilliant. And with the greatest respect to the men footballers, Kerry and Donegal last week, the atmosphere for the ladies' final for today was outstanding.
'That was absolutely brilliant, compared to last week [where] there were parts there where it was very quiet, but it was great all throughout today.'
He paid tribute to his late brother at the match after creating a special flag for him, which he takes to every All-Ireland final. 'The flag is a memory of our brother, Robbie Fitz,' he said.
'He passed away there a couple of years back, unfortunately, at a very young age, and his famous saying was on match days when Dublin were playing: 'Mind the Luas'. So, in memory of him, we got the flag done on 'Mind the Luas' as our slogan on the flag. So it goes to every Dublin game – women's or men's.'
As the saying goes, We're proud to be Irish, but we're honoured to be Dubs
He said 'there's nothing like' being at Croke Park for an All-Ireland final.

'As the saying goes, 'We're proud to be Irish, but we're honoured to be Dubs'. It's a great tradition in Dublin and in every county to get watching your team or your county playing in the All-Ireland finals,' Mr Fitzsimons added.
'It's fantastic and it's the pinnacle of the year, you want to be there on All-Ireland final. There is nothing like it. It's brilliant, fantastic.'
Adam Cullen-Fitzsimons (26) said it means 'everything and more' to see their team lift the trophy.
Former Dublin All-Ireland footballer Paul Flynn (39) was also cheering on the Dubs at Croke Park, alongside his wife Fiona (35) and their children.
'Delighted for Dublin, especially for Niamh Crowley, our club-mate, so delighted for her to win. And also Sinéad Goldrick, who'd be Fiona's friend,' he said.
Dublin fan Sadie Cremens, who came to Croke Park from Maynooth, Co Kildare, described the match as 'spectacular'.
'That was amazing. The atmosphere was like out of this world. So good. I've supported that team since I was born. It was just unbelievable,' she said.
'The whole team played amazing. And there's a few bad injuries there, hope everyone's all right.'
Despite Meath's loss, it was a 'great day out' for father and daughter Orla and Jim Quinn, from Ballyboughal, Co Meath. Orla (13) said the match was 'very one-sided' but she's 'still proud of both teams'.
'There's really good atmosphere, but both of our teams lost,' she said.
Her father Jim (59) said they were cheering on Laois and Meath.
'Both teams played their best, but it just wasn't their day. But still, it was a great day out. It's nice to get out,' he said.
Meath fans Damien Dylan and his daughter Leah Dylan, who live in Barcelona, were visiting their family.
'We've had a weekend of GAA double-header club match yesterday and Croke Park for the final,' Mr Dylan said.
After the final, Mr Dylan said, it did not 'feel as good as three years ago'.
'It was a great atmosphere. It's very special. I've been coming here since I was a kid,' he said. 'The ladies' [game] is especially nice.'
However, he was 'very proud' of the team despite the result.
'They made a good shot of it. They could do with bringing in the tap and go from the men's rules. The game was very stop-start today, with fouls being a bit tactical, but the better team won,' he said. 'The tactics worked in their favour. But it'd be nice to cut them out, too.
'Watching the men's games, the new rules are working great now. They should take a couple of them in for the ladies, especially that one – the tap and go would have really helped a lot.'

What TV channel is Ballkani vs Shamrock Rovers on? Stream, kick-off time and odds as Hoops travel to Kosovo

EURO TRIP What TV channel is Ballkani vs Shamrock Rovers on? Stream, kick-off time and odds as Hoops travel to Kosovo SHAMROCK Rovers have ventured all the way out to Kosovo for this evening's European Conference League third round qualifier. The Tallaght outfit secured their spot in this stage of the competition by comfortably easing past St Joseph's of Gibraltar 4-0 on aggregate. Here's everything you need to know about this evening's first leg: WHAT STREAM IS BALLKANI VS SHAMROCK ROVERS ON? After weeks of having to resort to less familiar streaming sites, this European tie involving a League of Ireland club will be shown on LOITV. It won't be televised anywhere. WHAT TIME IS KICK-OFF? The match will start at 7:30pm Irish time. The Fadil Vokrri Stadium, also known as the Pristina City Stadium, will be the venue. WHAT ARE THE ODDS? The home side are favourites to win on the night at 5/4 while The Hoops are 11/5 outsiders. A draw is set at 9/5. WHAT'S BEEN SAID BEFOREHAND? Stephen Bradley has hailed record-breaking Roberto 'Pico' Lopes as one of the reasons why the Hoops can believe in playing group-stage football again. Captain Lopes, 33, will make his 48th European appearance for Rovers this evening — beating Ronan Finn's club Euro record. And Bradley insisted that the Cape Verde international deserves all the plaudits he gets as a key man in Rovers' success since joining in 2017. Bradley said: 'It's a credit to Pico. When he came here, he was an average midfield player, I would say. He would say. 'And he's turned into the best centre-back in the country for quite some time. He's become a full international. 'He's played at a really high level. He's been a big part of what we've done.' Son Heung-min breaks down in tears as Tottenham legend bids emotional farewell before MLS transfer Echoing his gaffer's view, centre-back Dan Cleary admitted he has been a long-time admirer of his defensive partner. Cleary said: 'I've known Pico probably since we were kids. I used to hang around with his brother in Crumlin. We used to be knocking around near his house as well. 'When I came here three years ago then I got to know him even better. We went to the same school as well. He's a top lad. Leads by example every day.' Bradley insisted that the European experience Lopes and his side have — which includes two seasons in the Conference League group stage — makes him sure the Hoops can qualify again. 1 Rovers look to practically have the league title wrapped up with 10 games to go But this season they are trying to navigate a trickier path as they must win every tie, compared to 2022 and 2024 when they were on the 'Champions path', giving them the safety net of dropping down from other competitions on both occasions. Bradley said: 'That's the beauty of the Champions path. And not having that, we knew it was going to be difficult. 'What I said at the start, our aim is to get into the group phase, the league phase. That's our aim.' The Hoops will face either Larne or Portuguese outfit Santa Clara in a play-off if they can overcome the Kosovans.

It's a big challenge and Besiktas have a tremendous tradition and are an institution in Turkey, a big club. Ireland kicking coach Gareth Steenson keeps focus on Women's World Cup role

Irish women's kicking coach and former Exeter outhalf Gareth Steenson was non-committal when asked about his role and that of Johnny Sexton following this summer's women's World Cup in England. In April the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) announced that Sexton would take up a full-time position with the Union from Friday, August 1st. The IRFU statement explained that as part of his expanded coaching role he would work with the various men's and women's national age-grade teams up to senior level. The former Irish captain has been involved with the Ireland men's squad in a part-time coaching capacity since the 2024 Autumn Nations Series before stepping into an assistant coaching role. READ MORE He was also part of Andy Farrell's backroom team on the Lions tour to Australia, which ended in a 2-1 series win last weekend. 'I know my role, so my role has been in with the girls,' said Steenson. 'I've been here now a year. How that looks going forward ... I've been working with these girls for the last year or so, so yeah, we'll see when Johnny comes back. Lions kicking coach Johnny Sexton works with Owen Farrell and Finn Russell during a training session at the Adelaide Oval. Photograph:'So, my future is now I'm going to the World Cup, so post that ... it will be a matter of seeing where we are post World Cup really. It's something I've been part of ... I've been fortunate. When I moved back home a year ago it was very lucky to come in and work with the pathway work, with the Sevens, right across that kicking regime.' An Irish under-21 player, Steenson did not get opportunities with his home province Ulster, in part because Ireland international David Humphreys was the starting outhalf at the time. He left Ireland to play for the Rotherham Titans and joined Cornish Pirates before moving to Exeter. Steenson won the golden boot in the 2016 Premiership awards and helped Exeter reach the 2016 Premiership Rugby final. The following year he started the final and scored two conversions and three penalties, including the winning points, as Exeter defeated Wasps for the 2016-17 English Premiership title. 'I've been very fortunate to almost be part of the growth piece as well, so it's been really exciting,' said Steenson. 'I've loved it. All the focus has been really getting to this World Cup. Now we know that we are on the brink of it, it's very exciting.' Ireland face Canada in Belfast on Saturday in the final preparation match before their tournament begins against Japan on August 24th in Franklin's Garden.
