Bayfront Maritime Center kicks off community boating season

A bayfront nonprofit is looking to get more people out on the water this summer, starting Tuesday night.
The Bayfront Maritime Center on Holland Street kicked off its 2025 community boating season with a series of open house events this week.
New Shriners tech will help young athletes safely return to sports following injuries
The community boating program offers sailing lessons for people with all levels of experience looking to learn a new skill.
The maritime center's president said their idea is to make sailing more accessible without the hassle of going through a marina.

'There's people in Erie who have never been to Presque Isle. There's people in Erie who have never been on a boat, and what we can do here with this program is to get people that life experience, get them excited about living in Erie, and really one opf my favorite things and one of the best parts about living in Erie is the bay, so let's enjoy it,' said Vince Nientimp, board president of the Bayfront Maritime Center.
And if you're interested in the sailing program, the maritime center will be holding additional open house events on Thursday and Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
