Tennis-Badosa faces another spell on sidelines after fresh back injury
(Reuters) -Paula Badosa said she will be out of action for a few weeks due to another back injury, leaving the world number 10 in a race to be fit for next month's U.S. Open.
The Spanish former world number two has worked her way back into the top 10 this year after a string of injuries, including a chronic lower back issue, had left her contemplating retirement.
Badosa lost 6-2 3-6 6-4 to Katie Boulter in the first round of Wimbledon earlier this month, and in a statement on Monday said she had suffered a tear in her psoas, the muscle which connects the lower back to the top of the leg.
"These are really challenging times for me but I'm staying hopeful that things will turn around soon and the light at the end of the tunnel will start to shine through," Badosa said, adding that the injury had occurred before Wimbledon.
Badosa is scheduled to play alongside Stefanos Tsitsipas in the U.S. Open's revamped mixed doubles event, which will take place a week before the August 24 to September 7 singles main draw.

The far-right Vox party, which has climbed in recent polls, seized on the unrest that erupted after a 68-year-old pensioner in Torre Pacheco told media he was attacked by three men of North African origin. Vox has also proposed the deportation of all irregular migrants, with tens of thousands arriving on Spanish shores every year on boats from Africa. 'It seems that the far right is in fashion. We who have a voice will try to keep working, to continue silencing mouths and keep tearing down barriers,' Williams said. Media reports said Buchanan joined Villarreal for a fee of around nine million euros ($10.39 million). England and Spain dominate UEFA Euro 2025 women's team of tournament
FOUR players each from both finalists were named in UEFA's team of the tournament for the Women's Euro on Monday, as Spain's golden boot winner Esther Gonzalez was sidelined in favour of England strikers Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly. Russo scored the equaliser for England in Sunday's final and Kelly netted the winning penalty, helping her country secure their second European championship in a row. Kelly's strike late in extra time helped England beat Italy in the semi-finals. Germany's Jule Brand, who scored two goals and provided two assists for the semi-finalists, was also included among the strikers.
