Heavily pregnant woman is dragged to her death by crocodile after it swam into her flooded home
Munirah, 28, was standing in the swamped kitchen when the animal sank its fangs into her leg in North Kalimantan on Tuesday.
The mother-to-be, who was only identified by her first name, screamed as the beast then tried to thrash her in a death roll.
Hearing her pained cries, Munirah's sister Ana Maria rushed over and found her sibling holding onto a tree branch.
She rushed out of the room to find a weapon with which to beat the huge animal, but it had already dragged Munirah into the water by the time she returned.
Villagers searched along the Mambulu River. Footage shows several men firing a shotgun at the predator, but it retreated into the muddy waters.
Around half an hour later, they found a lifeless Munirah body floating in the flood.
Local police chief AKP Supriadi said: 'The victim died after being attacked by a crocodile. She was dragged away from her kitchen and drowned to death.
'She couldn't be saved. She was eight months pregnant and did not have the strength to fight off the crocodile.
'The crocodile released her, but she was already dead when her body surfaced.'
The local disaster response agency (BPBD) confirmed the incident.
Hasanuddin, head of the BPBD Rescue Division in Nunukan Regency, said: 'Yes, we received the report. The official documentation will be included in our daily report at 6.00 pm'.
Munirah's residence was a stilt home flooded after the nearby Mambulu River burst its banks following heavy rain.
Authorities suspect that the flood has caused crocodiles to move closer to human settlements, increasing the risk of attacks.
Residents have been warned to stay vigilant, especially when carrying out activities near rivers or flood-prone zones.
The Indonesian archipelago is home to 14 types of crocs - with a large population of extremely large and violent estuarine crocodiles that flourish in the region's climate.
Conservationists believe that crocodiles have been driven further inland closer to villages due to overfishing reducing the crocodiles' natural food supplies combined with habitat loss from the development of coastal areas into farms.
Widespread tin mining has also caused villagers to encroach on the crocodiles' natural habitats, pushing the creatures closer toward people's homes.
Last year alone there were 179 recorded crocodile attack victims in Indonesia, the highest number of crocodile attacks in the world, with 92 fatalities, according to CrocAttack, an independent database.
Residents and experts have called for better government interventions to stop the problem from getting even worse.
The saltwater crocodile has been a legally protected species in Indonesia since 1999, making it an animal that cannot be hunted freely.
As a top predator, there is also no population control in nature.
Social media videos showing crocodile appearances and attacks in Sulawesi and other regions in Indonesia are also on the rise.
Only last week a 13-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile in front of his friends as he tried to retrieve a football.
Muhammad Syahputra Almanda was playing with his friends in a field next to their village in Jambi on Saturday.
He had chased after the ball towards a nearby river, but was snatched by a huge 13ft crocodile as he bent down to scoop it up.
'He asked his friend to throw the ball into the water, and after it was thrown. He jumped in but he didn't resurface,' police said.
'Soon after, witnesses saw him in the jaws of a crocodile.'

Mr Kerr has now urged friends of his mother not to attend Mr Searle's funeral, saying it would be 'inappropriate' for her memory to be associated with the man 'who may have been responsible for her death'. He said in a statement on social media: 'In the absence of any evidence suggesting third-party involvement in the tragic death of our mother, Dawn Kerr, the prevailing hypothesis remains that of a murder-suicide. 'Our mother was killed by multiple blows to the head, and Andrew was found deceased by hanging. His injuries are consistent with self-hanging, and no defensive wounds were found on his body. There is also no evidence whatsoever of any third party's involvement at this stage. Mr Kerr said in a post on social media it would be 'inappropriate' for her memory to be associated with the man 'who may have been responsible for her death' 'While the official investigation is still ongoing, we cannot ignore the circumstances as they stand,' the statement continued. 'For this reason, we must respectfully but firmly request that our mother not be included in any way in the funeral arrangements being made for Andrew. Tragedy on the Welsh mountains as man, 36, plunges to his death from knife-edge ridge
Tragedy has hit the Welsh mountains after a man plunged to his death from a knife-edge ridge. The walker, 36, fell off Crib Goch, a notoriously dangerous Mount Snowdon precipice on the approach to Yr Wyddfa, on Saturday morning. North Wales Police and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team rushed to the location by helicopter but pronounced the man dead at the scene. A spokesperson for the force said: 'We are saddened to confirm that a 36-year-old man has died following a fall from Crib Goch in Eryri National Park on Saturday, 16 August. 'Emergency services, including North Wales Police and the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, responded to reports of a man falling from the ridge at approximately 11:30am. 'The man was recovered from the mountain by helicopter but was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. 'Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the man's next of kin have been informed, and the coroner has been notified.' Inspector Jamie Owens added: 'My deepest condolences remain with the man's family at this incredibly difficult time. Our investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident is ongoing.' It comes after a man with a broken wrist spent an hour trying in vain to save his hospital doctor friend after she fell 30ft from a spot nearby. Dr Charlotte Crook, 31, and her colleague Adam Weatherhogg had been walking in Snowdonia on February 16 when Ms Crook slipped and plunged off a grassy ledge. The thrill-seeker - who had more than 10,000 followers on social media - was an experienced climber who had recently completed an ice-climbing course in Norway. But tragically the engineering student lost her footing when her heel slipped while scrambling up Tryfan on February 22. Neil Oakes, who was among a group of about 18 on the peak when the party split in two, said he had been ahead of Ms Eftimova and turned around to check on his companions. 'I turned around again and saw Maria tumbling through the air below me,' he said in a statement to the inquest. 'I knew there was going to be an impact. I was shouting "No,no,no!" 'When I turned back she had hit the ledge below.' At the inquest in Ruthin the assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central Kate Robertson read a statement from one of his friends, Tony Clarke, in which he described the problems they faced while descending the peak. The four friends arrived in North Wales on June 7, intending to stay two nights, and that afternoon set off up Tryfan, one of the most recognisable peaks in Snowdonia. One of them turned back because he found it too physically demanding, but the other three made it to the summit, where they rested. Mr Caley, a 49-year-old from Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire and a programme director at Deutsche Bank, was an experienced hiker, but while Clarke and the third member of the group, Adriaan Commander headed down the path towards the Heather Terrace he followed a parallel path. In his statement Clarke said he shouted at Caley to come back to them but he may not have heard. 'We told him to retrace his steps but he was reluctant,' he said. The two lost sight of him but heard him say: 'I could do with some help here guys.' Clarke described how he then saw his friend falling and he tried to see where he had landed. An off-duty paramedic who was a qualified mountain guide went to their assistance and the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team was called out. 'Adriaan and I were in shock,' said Clarke. Caley was declared dead at the scene, having suffered head injuries. The coroner recorded a conclusion of accidental death.

FDA issues urgent 'do not eat' warning for radioactive shrimp sold at major retailer
Health regulators are urgently warning Americans to check their freezers after a radioactive substance was found in a popular bag of shrimp sold at Walmart. The FDA has told the public to avoid Great Value raw frozen shrimp due to potential contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope. Customs and Border Protection agents, who detected the radioactive isotope Cesium-137, or Cs-137, in shipping containers at four major US ports, sounded the alarm to the FDA. The FDA tested the contents of the shipping containers and confirmed on Tuesday that the shrimp, which came from a company in Indonesia called BMS Foods, was contaminated. According to the agency, evidence suggests the shrimp was processed or stored in unsanitary conditions that likely led to the radioactive contamination, making it unsafe for people to eat. The risk of contamination from passing a contaminated shipping container is low, but that risk compounds if a person were to eat radioactive shrimp. Once inside your body, Cs-137 acts as a long-term, internal source of radiation that significantly increases cancer risk. The Do Not Eat warning is issued out of an abundance of caution, the FDA said, adding that testing to date has not confirmed the presence of contamination in any product currently being sold in stores. The contaminated shipping containers entered the ports of Los Angeles, Houston, Savannah, and Miami. The containers included three lots of Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, all with best by dates of March 15, 2027. 'If you have recently purchased raw frozen shrimp from Walmart that matches this description, throw it away,' the FDA said. The FDA also instructed distributors and retailers to throw the product away. Anyone who believes they may have eaten it should consult their doctor. Low-level exposure to Cs-137 is common for everyone due to its persistent presence in the environment from past nuclear weapons testing in the 1950s and 60s, according to the CDC. The significant health risk, however, comes from highly concentrated sources found in medical and industrial equipment, where the material is sealed within protective shielding to prevent exposure. A serious danger emerges if this shielding is compromised, either accidentally or intentionally, allowing the release of the highly concentrated radioactive material.
