UFC Mexico City Results: Moreno Vs. Erceg Fight Card

Forbes29-03-2025

The UFC returns to Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico for tonight's UFC Mexico City fight card. The, Saturday, March 29, UFC Fight Night features a main event between former two-time UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and recent UFC flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg. Moreno is coming off a decision win over Amir Albazi, which ended his two-fight losing skid. Meanwhile, Erceg is looking to end a two-fight losing skid of his own heading into the UFC Mexico City headliner. Manuel Torres faces Drew Dober in a lightweight bout in the evening's co-main event. Below, we will update the UFC Mexico City fight card results, video highlights, scorecards, and more live throughout tonight's UFC Fight Night event.
Moreno (22-8-2) is the No. 2 fighter in the official UFC flyweight rankings. The 30-year-old is a former two-time UFC 125-pound champion. Moreno's first title reign began in June 2021 with a submission win over Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 263. He returned the title to Figueiredo in their UFC 270 rematch, losing that January 2022 contest via decision.
Moreno then won the interim flyweight belt in July 2022 with a UFC 277 TKO triumph over Kai Kara-France. In January 2023, Moreno regained the undisputed UFC title from Figueiredo with a TKO victory at UFC 283.
Like his first title run, Moreno's second stint with the 125-pound ended without him making a successful defense. Alexandre Pantoja took the belt from him in July 2023 via split decision. The ex-champ then lost a split decision to Brandon Royval in February 2024.
Moreno bounced back from that loss with a decision win over Amir Albazi in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event in Edmonton in November. The ex-champ has not fought since defeating Albazi.
Steve Erceg (12-3) has not been with the UFC long. The fighter from Perth, Australia, has just five UFC bouts to his name, including a surprise title fight in May 2024.
Erceg was 9-1 when he made his UFC debut at UFC 289 in June 2023. Despite fighting on the early prelims of that card and not getting a finish, Erceg picked up a 'Performance of the Night' bonus for a unanimous decision win that night over David Dvorak.
That win put Erceg into the top 15 of the UFC's 125-pound division. In his next outing, Erceg faced Alessandro Costa in the 'featured prelim' spot of the UFC 295 fight card. Erceg again picked up a unanimous decision win on that night.
After defeating Costa, Erceg moved up to No. 12 in the division. For his next scrap, Erceg faced Matt Schnell in March of this year. Erceg won that fight and his second 'Performance of the Night' bonus with a second-round knockout of Schnell. The win put him in the top 10 of the division, and thanks to some booking quirks, it earned him a shot at Pantoja's title in the top spot of the UFC 301 fight card.
Erceg handled himself well against Pantoja but lost to the champ by decision in their May 2024 matchup. Erceg next faced Kai Kara-France in the co-main event of UFC 305, a fight that Kara-France won via first-round TKO. Erceg enters UFC Mexico City as the No. 8 ranked UFC flyweight.

UFC 319 adds Alexander Hernandez vs. Chase Hooper lightweight matchup

UFC 319 adds Alexander Hernandez vs. Chase Hooper lightweight matchup UFC 319 continues to take shape with the addition of a fun matchup in the lightweight division. On Aug. 16 at the United Center in Chicago, Alexander Hernandez will face Chase Hooper. A middleweight title fight between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev headlines the pay-per-view event. MMA Junkie confirmed the matchup with sources following a first report by X user @McGregorRousey2. Hooper also publicly announced the booking. Hernandez (16-8 MMA, 8-7 UFC) will look to extend his current winning streak to three. After hitting a rough patch of 1-5 from 2022-24, Hernandez appears to be turning a corner after wins over Austin Hubbard and Kurt Holobaugh. If successful at UFC 319, it will be the first time the 32-year-old has won three straight under the UFC banner. Hooper (16-3-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is running hot as a winner of five straight. Since his last loss to Steve Garcia in October 2022, Hooper, 25, has been fantastic, recording finishes of Jordan Leavitt, Viacheslav Borshchev and Clay Guida. In his first outing of 2025, Hooper won a unanimous decision over Jim Miller. Current UFC 319 lineup

UFC full fight video: Sean O'Malley dominates Marlon Vera to avenge first pro loss

UFC full fight video: Sean O'Malley dominates Marlon Vera to avenge first pro loss Sean O'Malley made sure to leave no doubt in his rematch against "Chito" Vera. Sean O'Malley's first and only UFC title defense was an impressive one. In March 2024, O'Malley faced the only man who had defeated him at the time: Marlon Vera. The two headlined UFC 299, and that night O'Malley put on one of his best career performances, styling and outstriking "Chito" to win two 50-45 scorecards and one 50-44. It was one of the most dominant championship performances in UFC history. You can rewatch O'Malley avenging his first professional loss in the video above. O'Malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) returns to the octagon this Saturday looking to avenge another defeat. He takes on Merab Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC), who took his UFC bantamweight title in September, in the main event of UFC 316 (ESPN+ pay-per-view) at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Ali Abdelaziz says Patchy Mix could earn title shot with UFC 316 win: 'It's a crazy sport'

Ali Abdelaziz says Patchy Mix could earn title shot with UFC 316 win: 'It's a crazy sport' Ali Abdelaziz says the idea of Patchy Mix becoming No. 1 contender after UFC 316 isn't out of the realm of possibility. Former Bellator champion Mix (20-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his octagon debut against Mario Bautista (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) on Saturday's main card pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. Mix has long declared himself as the best 135-pounder in the sport, and Abdelaziz has watched him train first hand. "He believes it," Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie on Mix declaring himself as the best bantamweight. "I train with Patchy two days a week because I teach a class at the (UFC Performance Institute), and he comes to my class all the time. He chokes guys from 125 to light heavyweight. He is this good on the ground and grappling. "He's fighting a tough guy. His opponent is very hard to deal with because he doesn't give you much, and I think Patrick has to find something. The key is to pressure him early. It's a three-round fight. He's been fighting five-round fights, and I think Patrick is going to push the gas and try to make him make a mistake and capitalize on it and probably choke him." With his prior accolades, Mix doesn't see himself needing to climb the ladder. If he can impress against Bautista, Abdelaziz would love to see him in the title picture. "It's a crazy sport. He's a world champion already," Abdelaziz said. "He's 20-1. He's 31-1 with his amateur career. He has almost 20 finishes, and I think he can fight for the title (with just one UFC win). Why not, if he goes out there and has an impressive performance? You have Cory Sandhagen – of course, I think he deserves (a title shot). But at the end of the day, Patchy Mix is a fighter. He never turned down a fight, he doesn't choose opponents, and he's always game. He took this fight on three weeks' notice."
