(PFI) terror outfit, an official statement issued on Thursday said.
NIA teams searched these nine locations in two districts in the state Wednesday morning to trace absconding proclaimed offenders in the case, relating to the brutal killing of Ramalingam, aimed at spreading fear and communal hatred among the people, it said.
During the searches, the NIA arrested Imthathullah, proprietor of Ambur Biryani Hotels, Kodaikanal, for "knowingly and voluntarily harbouring" absconding proclaimed offenders in his hotel outlets from 2021 onwards, the statement said.

Ramalingam, a Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) party worker, was hacked to death on February 5, 2019 in Paku Vinayakam Thoppu, Thanjavur, allegedly by members and office bearers of the PFI.
Incriminating documents and digital devices etc, were also seized during the searches conducted in Dindugal and Tenkasi districts, the probe agency said in the statement.

Of the three proclaimed offenders allegedly harboured by Imthathullah, two, identified as Abdul Majeed and Shahul Hameed, were arrested by the NIA on January 25 this year, while the third proclaimed offender Mohammed Ali Jinna is still absconding, it said.
The NIA, which took over the investigation from the Tamil Nadu Police in March 2019, had chargesheeted 18 accused before a court in Chennai in August 2019. Of these, six were absconders.
In 2021, NIA arrested one of the six absconders, identified as Rahman Sadiq.
In November 2024, the agency successfully traced Abdul Majeed and Shahul to Poombarai area in Kodaikanal, Dindigul district, and arrested an alleged harbourer, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, who was named as the 19th accused in the case.
There are two accused with almost similar names, Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Mohammed Ali Jinna, involved in the case and one of them has been arrested and the other remains absconding, officials said.
The NIA has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh each for information about the other Mohammed Ali Jinna and two other absconding proclaimed offenders, Burhanudeen and Nafeel Hasan, all belonging to the Thanjavur district and formerly office bearers of PFI, according to the statement.

Odisha seeks Rs 9,500 cr for erecting 800 cyclone shelters
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has sought a fund to the tune of Rs 9,500 crore from the Centre for construction of about 800 cyclone/flood shelters and disaster resilient power infrastructure in the State. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari had raised this demand before Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent meeting in New Delhi. Briefing reporters here on Thursday, Pujari said there are about 1,000 cyclone shelters in different cyclone-prone areas of the State and these shelters were repaired recently to make them functional. 'To make the State ready to tackle any unforeseen major natural disaster, we have requested the Centre to sanction funds of Rs 2,000 crore for construction of 800 cyclone shelters,' he said. The cyclone shelters would be set up inside school premises so that they can be used by students throughout the year, except when needed to shelter people during natural disasters, the minister said. During his meeting with the Union Home Minister, Pujari also raised the demand for execution of underground cabling of power lines in the cyclone and flood-prone areas of the State. As power infrastructure usually suffers maximum damage during natural disasters like cyclones and floods, there is a need to create disaster-resilient power infrastructure, he pointed out. So, if the power distribution lines in the coastal areas are made underground, the damage to power infrastructure can be prevented and affected people can get uninterrupted power supply, he added. As per preliminary estimation, about Rs 7,500 crore is required to implement the project, the minister said. Pujari said he has handed over seven booklets on success stories on management of natural disasters in Odisha to the Home Minister. He also drew the attention of Shah to soil erosion in some coastal areas in the State. 'I sought his support to address the problem,' he said.

SKM slams Centre's scrapping of duty on cotton imports, urges immediate rollback
Hyderabad: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) condemned the decision of the Finance Ministry to immediately abolish the 11% import duty and Agricultural Infrastructure Development Cess (AIDC) on cotton. The notification, effective from August 19, is valid until September 30, 2025. SKM has condemned the decision, which has been justified by the government as being 'in the public interest', as a 'death knell' for cotton growers already grappling with low prices and mounting debt. SKM has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of reneging on his promises to farmers and demanded clarity on where his 'top priority' lies. The union argues that the removal of import duty will flood the domestic market with cheaper cotton, driving down prices and pushing lakhs of cotton farming families into deeper financial distress. They point out that cotton-growing regions already record the highest number of farmer suicides in the country, and this move could exacerbate the crisis. Despite repeated demands, the Modi government has never implemented the Minimum Support Price (MSP) formula of C2+50% for cotton farmers. For the 2025 Kharif season, the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) announced an MSP of Rs 7,710 per quintal—Rs 2,365 short of the Rs 10,075 rate under the C2+50% formula. SKM claims this gap reflects a systemic neglect of cotton farmers' welfare. India, with 120.55 lakh hectares under cotton cultivation, accounts for 36% of the global cotton area. Maharashtra leads in cotton acreage, followed by Gujarat and Telangana. Notably, 67% of India's cotton farming is rainfed, making it highly vulnerable to market and climate shocks. In response to the notification, SKM has called on cotton farmers nationwide to organize village-level meetings, pass resolutions, and send them to the Prime Minister demanding the immediate withdrawal of the duty abolition and the declaration of MSP at Rs 10,075 per quintal. The union also reminded the government of its unfulfilled promise from the BJP's 2014 election manifesto to ensure fair MSP for farmers.

Police bust inter-state e-cigarette smuggling gang
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force, West Zone, has apprehended six people involved in illegally importing banned e-cigarettes from Dubai and selling them in the city. Police seized e-cigarettes worth Rs 25 lakh. Police arrested Abdullah Shetty (42), a supplier from Mumbai; Mohd Tajuddin (38), a coordinator; Mohd Sami Mukram (34), an auto driver and wholesaler; Mohd Sohail Khan, a retailer; and workers Khaleel Ahmed (41) and Mayank Bise (25). A total of 13,600 Platinum Seven Cool cigarettes and 360 Elfbar Moon Night 40,000 Puffs e-cigarettes were seized from them. According to police, Sohail Khan was apprehended at MLA Colony, Banjara Hills. He stated he had purchased the e-cigarettes from Sami Mukram. Later, Sami Mukram was arrested and revealed his contacts with Abdullah Shetty, a Mumbai-based supplier. Whenever Abdullah Shetty came to Hyderabad, he would stay at a hotel in Lakdikapool to supply the goods. Mohd Iqbal Siddiqui, Additional DCP Task Force, said Abdullah Shetty was apprehended along with the other accused, who were dealers of e-cigarettes and foreign cigarettes. 'Abdullah Shetty a few years back had met Sohail and had made a deal with him to sell cigarettes,' said Iqbal. As per the arrangement, he received e-cigarettes and foreign cigarettes from Dubai through different people sent by Sohail and supplied them in the market to earn illegal profits and evade commercial tax. The sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited in Telangana. The DCP added that Tajuddin was a coordinator who looked after receiving and delivering the goods, while Khaleel Ahmed supplied manpower. Mayank had recently arrived in Hyderabad from Dubai to deliver a consignment to Tajuddin.
