A man in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao has alleged that a piece of meat was found in a vegetarian meal ordered online from a local restaurant, during the Hindu holy month of Shravan, police said on Sunday.
Dheeraj Singh, a resident of Magarwara and sevadar at a local temple, said he had placed an order from an online food delivery platform on Saturday night for dinner with his family and relatives. The order included kadai paneer, paneer fried rice and five rumali rotis.
He received the delivery on time but upon opening the package, a piece of non-vegetarian food was found along with the vegetarian dishes.
"Our entire family is vegetarian and eating meat is against our religious beliefs," he said.
Singh said when he called the restaurant after getting its number from the online food delivery platform, the management refused to acknowledge the error and allegedly told him, "We will see whatever happens."
He later uploaded a video on social media appealing to district and state authorities to take strict action, citing the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's efforts to ensure religious norms are respected during Shravan.

Calling it a matter concerning both "health and faith", Singh said the in-charge of Magarwara police outpost contacted him and sought a written complaint, which he submitted.
After the video surfaced, Unnao police posted on X that action would be taken after investigating the complaint lodged at Kotwali Sadar police station.
Repeated attempts to contact the restaurant owner were unsuccessful as he was neither present at the outlet nor reachable over the phone, police said.

Maharashtra: Eight Arrested for Beating 21-Year-Old Muslim Man to Death Over ‘Closeness With Hindu Girl'

The men, whom some reports identify as members of a Hindutva group, also assaulted Suleman Pathan's mother and sister when they tried to come to his rescue. New Delhi: A 21-year-old Muslim man in Maharashtra was paraded and beaten to death and his family members assaulted when they attempted to save him over suspicion that he was close to a 17-year-old Hindu girl, reports say. Some of the reports have identified the accused as members of a Hindutva group. Indian Express has reported, quoting police, that eight people have been arrested from around Jalgaon since the incident took place on August 11. It is not known which sections have been invoked against them. Four who were arrested on August 12 are Abhishek Rajkumar Rajput (22), Ghanshyam alias Suraj Bihari Lal Sharma (25), Deepak Bajirao (20) and Ranjat alias Ranjit Ramkrishna Matade (48). Four more who were arrested on August 13 are Aditya Devade, Krishna Teli, Shejwal Teli and Rishikesh Teli, all in their mid-20s. Suleman Rahim Khan Pathan, of the Chhoti Betawad village, was attacked after he was seen with a Hindu woman from the same village at a cafe in Jamner, a relative named Abdullah Pathan told Scroll. He told the outlet that Suleman had left home for Jamner to fill a police recruitment form, but said he did not know anything about the girl. This cafe was just metres from the local police station, reported Maktoob Media. The Indian Express report quoted a policeman as having said that 8-10 people showed up and began checking his mobile phone after snatching it from him. Once intercepted, reported Maktoob, Suleman was dragged into a vehicle, driven to three or four different spots, and repeatedly assaulted before being brought back to his village for the fatal attack. When Suleman's parents and sister tried to rescue him, the men assaulted them as well, the police officer quoted by Indian Express said. Suleman's father Rahim was quoted by the newspaper as having said that his 80-year-old father – Suleman's grandfather – was also punched and kicked when he tried to step in. Eventually, Suleman lost consciousness. After the accused left him for dead, villagers took him a hospital in a bike. The hospital, reported Scroll, refused to admit him as it did not have the specialisation needed to treat him. The family then took him to a civil hospital, where he was declared dead at 4.30 pm. Suleman's father has said that the story of him and the girl having been in a relationship was entirely concocted. 'There was not a single inch on my son's body without wounds. They left him battered. When we ran to save him, they turned their violence on me, my wife, and my daughter. Suleman was my only son. I will not rest until the culprits face the harshest punishment the law can give, exactly for what they did to him,' Rahim told Maktoob. Former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel has been among those to post about the incident on X. He wrote: "Another case of mob lynching. 20 year old college student beaten to death in front of his parents and sister by goons in a villlage in Jamner taluka, Jalgaon on Monday afternoon. Suleman khan was attacked on the charge that he was talking to a girl from another community. Police now pressurising family to do last rites while family is demanding arrests of all accused. Request Jalgaon @JalgaonPolice to take strictest action against the culprits. @DGPMaharashtra @Devendra_Office." Renukaswamy Murder Case: Supreme Court cancels bail of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa—Deets inside

Picture Credit: X Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, along with actress Pavithra Gowda and others, faced scrutiny in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy in June 2024. In the latest development, the Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, calling the earlier decision by the Karnataka High Court a "mechanical exercise of power." Court warns of witness influence in high-profile case According to reports by NDTV, a bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan passed the order, setting aside the High Court's ruling that had allowed Darshan and other accused to walk free on bail. Justice Mahadevan, who authored the judgment, observed, "The grant of bail will impact the trial, and the witnesses can be influenced." The court stressed that in such a serious case, releasing the accused posed a significant risk of interference in the judicial process. Justice Pardiwala, while praising Justice Mahadevan's detailed order, remarked during the hearing, "It is ineffable. It conveys a message that, however big the accused may be, he or she is not above the law.' The Supreme Court's decision followed a strong petition from the Karnataka government seeking to overturn the High Court's bail order. Forensic evidence links the accused to the crime scene. The state's submission outlined a number of points to demonstrate Darshan's alleged involvement in the crime. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo This included forensic evidence such as soil samples found on the accused's shoes, which matched the location of the crime scene, and blood from Renukaswamy found on the accused's clothing. The prosecution claimed that the forensic evidence in this case, combined with witness statements, also meant that the accused would need to be in custody to ensure a fair trial. For the unversed, Renukaswamy was found dead near a stormwater drain in Sumanahalli, Bengaluru. The autopsy revealed multiple blunt injuries leading to shock and hemorrhage; his mutilated body showed bruises and electric burns.
