BBC Radio Somerset presenters launch epic flag challenge
Four BBC Radio Somerset presenters are putting their friendship aside to celebrate Somerset Day with an unusual challenge.Breakfast's Charlie Taylor, morning host Simon Parkin and afternoon presenters Andy Bennett and Mel Everett will be pitting their flag-raising skills against each other in a celebration of all things Somerset.The winner, after three weeks of displaying the flags far and wide, will be crowned the king or queen of the county.The public has also been asked to get involved to suggest places that the presenters could visit.
Between now and Somerset Day on 11 May, the team will have to get their Somerset flags in front of the biggest group of people they can – anywhere in the world.Judges will be looking for who can fly the flag in the most places, how far away it is, and how many people can get their eyes on the flag in the location it's in.
Mel Everett, who can usually be heard on Charlie Taylor's show and is currently presenting on afternoons, got proceedings under way by flying her flag on the SS Great Britain in Bristol, just an hour or so after the challenge began.Meanwhile, Charlie ran one of his flags up the flagpole at (the empty) county cricket ground in Taunton.Anyone who has an idea for a location for the presenters to fly the flag from can use the links below to send their suggestions in.Support Simon ParkinSupport Mel EverettSupport Andy BennettSupport Charlie Taylor

Sir Rod Stewart cancels US concerts amid recovery from flu
Sir Rod Stewart has cancelled a string of concerts in the US as he recovers from flu, ahead of his set at Glastonbury later this month. Sir Rod is due to play the coveted tea-time legends slot at the Somerset festival on Sunday June 29. He took to Instagram to announce that he was 'devastated' to have to cancel or reschedule the six US shows, due to take place in the next eight days. 'I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu,' he wrote. 'So sorry my friends. 'I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon.' He signed off 'Sir Rod' along with the heartbreak emoji. He also listed the four shows he was cancelling – in Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada – as well as two he plans to reschedule – in California. The 80-year-old musician recently announced he will reunite with his former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood for his much-anticipated set at Glastonbury. He told That Peter Crouch Podcast he was only due to play for an hour and a quarter on the Pyramid Stage. 'But I've asked them 'Please, another 15 minutes' because I play for over two hours every night and it's nothing,' he said. In 2024, he promised he would not retire but confirmed his 2025 European and North American shows would bring an end to his 'large-scale world tours', with his next slate to be held at more intimate venues. Sir Rod's best known solo songs include Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?, Every Beat Of My Heart, and Maggie May. Last month he was presented with a prestigious lifetime achievement award by five of his children at the American Music Awards (AMAs). Home Farm Fest to set record for most people yodelling
A charity hopes to set up a record for the most people yodelling in unison in School in a Bag (SIAB) is hosting its annual fundraiser event Home Farm Fest from 6-8 June for the 18th part of the festival, Yodellynne, or Lynne Nash, will be teaching yodelling to the festival goers - hoping to become the biggest group of people yodelling in unison in Simon, Founder of School in a Bag, said: "This year is by far our biggest Home Farm Fest to date – we have sold out for the first time ever. At a time where so many festivals are folding we are clearly doing something right." School in a Bag sends school bags filled with educational resources to disadvantaged and disaster-affected Simon added: "Having extra things happening over the weekend like Owain and Lexi leaving on their world trip where they will be fundraising for SchoolBags as they go, to Yodellynne bringing something we've never had at Home Farm Fest before, all adds to the fun."Owain and Lexi will set off on a cycle trip around the world to raise money for the charity with a fanfare on the Saturday from the festival Farm Fest takes place from 6-8 June at Chilthorne Domer.

Rod Stewart 'devastated' to cancel shows ahead of Glastonbury legends slot
The music legend has cancelled several shows in the run-up to to his tea-time set at Glastonbury. Sir Rod Stewart has cancelled a string of concerts in the US as he recovers from flu, ahead of his set at Glastonbury later this month. The music icon is due to play the famous tea-time legends slot at the Somerset festival on Sunday, June 29. The star is scheduled to take centre stage from 3.45pm to 5.15pm, in a Glasto slot having played host to some of the biggest global stars like Shania Twain, Cat Stevens, Diana Ross, and Kylie Minogue. But he announced on Instagram that he was "devastated" to cancel or reschedule his next six US shows, which are due to take place in the next eight days. Sir Rod has cancelled six shows, four of which were to take place in Las Vegas and Stateline, Nevada, as well as two further shows in California that the icon plans to reschedule. However, it appears he is still gunning for the Glastonbury legends slot, insisting he will be back on stage soon. "I have to cancel and reschedule my next six concerts in June as I continue to recover from the flu," the 80-year-old wrote in his statement on Instagram. "So sorry my friends. "I'm devastated and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I'll be back on stage and will see you soon." He signed off "Sir Rod" along with the heartbreak emoji.
