Imagine a wedding taking place in New York. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it? in the very place that is synonymous with luxury, fashion, and influence. Well, maybe for us it might be a distant dream, but not for this trending couple on Instagram who got the famous wall-street shut down for their 400-guest baraat and booked 28 other locations across the city, transforming New York into their sprawling wedding playground.
Varun Navani, a tech entrepreneur and CEO of an AI platform called Rolai, married Amanda soll, a legal compliance director in New york city, this couple didn't just host a wedding; they staged a cultural spectacle that temporarily transformed the heart of the Financial District into a vibrant, pulsating Indian celebration. A wedding so grand that it wasn't just confined to a single ballroom or banquet hall; instead, for a span of 4 days, the couple and their 400 guests moved across 28 distinct venues in New York, including iconic Wall street reportedly paying between $25,000 and $66,000 per location for the necessary arrangements.
With the Conrad Hotel hosting the initial intimate settings, the celebrations gradually escalated to a high-octane sangeet at The Glasshouse prior to the grand procession of the baraat, spearheaded by Varun, who rode in on an elderly white car marching through Wall Street. For hours, the usually busy financial district was converted into a dancing arena, with hundreds of partygoers dancing among the skyscrapers, disrupting traffic, and creating social media craziness.
The couple obtained 28 permits from New York City to stage events across the city, a remarkable logistical achievement that highlights the magnitude of this celebration. Every permit enabled them to close down streets to ensure the safety of their guests while developing an immersive experience that blended their cultural heritage with the city's urban rhythm.
Amanda stunned in a Sabyasachi Mukherjee-designed red lehenga with delicate golden work, and Varun suited her with an ivory-colored sherwani, both capturing an effortless fusion of tradition and fashion.
Their nuptials led to a Jewish ceremony at Cipriani Wall Street, followed by after-parties that kept the party going well into the early morning.
This wedding is not only a sumptuous affair; it's a rich declaration of the way contemporary couples are rewriting matrimonial tradition—mixing cultures, defying conventions, and leaving their imprint on the world's most vibrant cities. Varun and Amanda's festivities didn't merely generate headlines; they infused New York City with the essence of love and togetherness.
As the baraat videos keep going viral, there is one certainty: this is no ordinary wedding. It's a spectacle that redefines the celebration of love: 28 venues, a city, and thousands of memories.
Are we forgetting to address a bigger question here? Are such weddings losing touch with their roots?
In an era where weddings are increasingly influenced by social media validation and viral moments, some worry that couples may prioritize flash over substance, reducing sacred ceremonies to performative events. While innovation and personalization are important, this trend begs the question: are such weddings truly celebrating union and heritage, or simply staging an opulent production?

Nothing CEO Carl Pei says London has better Indian food, leaves internet divided: ‘Like London museum'

Swedish-Chinese entrepreneur Carl Pei sparked a debate on the internet after sharing his 'hot take' on Indian food. The co-founder of OnePlus and CEO of Nothing took to his X account and declared: 'Indian food in London is better than Indian food in India.' He also dropped a photo of what seemed to look like an Indian dish, mostly butter chicken. Pei went on to reveal that the picture was clicked at Jamavar, a single Michelin star in Mayfair, London. 'Prove me wrong by joining me for the Phone (3) launch in London on July 1 and tasting the food,' he added. Reacting to his post, a user wrote in the comments, 'Well, then you haven't eaten at a good place in India.' 'Do you actually think Indian food in London is anywhere close to the real authentic Indian food,' questioned another user. Someone also criticised Pei for his post saying, 'Carl this is because the only Indian food you eat in India is at Soho House.' In response, he revealed which Indian dish he liked the most in India. 'The best food I had in India was actually a roadside Biryani," he said in reply. 'Real take: there's nothing Indian about Indian food in London,' said one more user to the entrepreneur. Someone also mocked him and commented sarcastically, 'Yes like London museum.' 'Hot take: Chinese food in India is better than Chinese food in China,' added a user as well. Yet another user mocked Pei for his brand when commented, 'NOTHiNG beats the soulful spice of Indian food in India. London's curries are great, but they're like a Phone (3) trying to outshine the original masala magic of iPhone!' Pei also shared recommendations for those in London. 'Jamavar was great, heard BiBi is fantastic -- haven't had the chance to try yet,' he told a netizen. Not just Carl Pei, previously a US man went viral after criticising Indian food online. His post sparked a word of war on the internet. Hunter Ash said that Indian food is "subcontinental pound-of-spice slop," leaving many upset on the internet. He faced backlash from foodies across the world. It happened so after Hunter took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, and called enjoying Indian food merely a sign of 'PMC striverism', a term used to make fun of those people who are trying to climb the social ladder.
