The yen strengthened on Monday, rising 0.6% to 143.15 against the U.S. dollar, following the declines of U.S. Treasury yields on Friday. This also weighed on Japanese stocks, said Arisawa.

PGs now offer biometric entry, diverse meals, real-time tracking

Jaipur: As the academic season picks up pace, Jaipur is seeing a steady influx of students from across Rajasthan and neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. With admissions underway at institutions such as Rajasthan University, Haridev Joshi University, MNIT, and nearly 20 private universities, the city's PG and hostel accommodations are evolving rapidly to meet the expectations of a new generation of students. Shifting to a new city can bring anxiety around food, hygiene, safety, and cost. But PG and hostel owners in Jaipur are going the extra mile to create a home-like environment. From offering three nutritious meals daily and high-speed Wi-Fi to daily housekeeping, the facilities now available are both extensive and efficient. What sets many hostels apart this year is the inclusion of CCTV surveillance, biometric entry-exit systems, and even real-time student tracking access for parents. "Parents want constant assurance. We've installed real-time dashboards so parents can track when their child enters or leaves the premises," says Arjun Mathur, who manages a PG in Raja Park. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Zumbido e perda de audição? "Students are like family to us. We ensure their comfort by maintaining hygiene, preparing fresh meals, and ensuring their safety," says Sangeeta Sharma, a PG owner in Bapu Nagar. Students are equally appreciative. "I was nervous when I left home, but this PG in Shyam Nagar gave me everything — good food, a safe environment, and people who genuinely care. It doesn't feel like I'm away from home," shares Manisha Meena, a first-year student at Haridev Joshi University. Popular PG zones such as Bapu Nagar, Lalkothi, and Rajapark cater to Rajasthan University students, while Vivek Vihar, C-Scheme, Banipark, Sitapura, and Malviya Nagar draw those heading to other institutions. Rent ranges from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000, depending on amenities.

Gang exploited victims using artificial intelligence and fake loans

New Delhi: Akshita, Jayshree, Pinki and Dimple led seemingly ordinary lives, but behind the facade, they allegedly harboured secrets that would shock their families and friends. At work, they were telecallers who would ruthlessly target the vulnerable and the elderly by using artificial intelligence, trapping them into a vicious cycle of blackmail. Beyond office hours, the women donned an entirely different persona – a tightrope walk to balance their alleged illicit activities and their everyday lives. Jayshree, a graduate from Alwar University, allegedly worked as a key player in a sextortion gang, using her charm to lure victims into compromising situations, police said. "The racket comprised social media profile analysts, extortion callers and individuals impersonating police officers to intimidate victims with false legal threats unless they complied with extortion demands," said joint commissioner Surender Kumar. These persons allegedly employed a deceitful method to lure and exploit victims. The modus operandi was to check profiles of prospective targets on social media and get them to chat. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Genera ingresos extras con IA desde casa: una manera astuta de empezar a invertir con éxito [CFD] Digital Group Prueba ahora Undo After establishing a connection, they would suddenly initiate video calls with AI-generated models, and the background voice was of a female. "During interrogation by ACP Anil Sharma, they disclosed that they would initially send friend requests on Facebook and Instagram and obtain the victim's mobile number through Facebook Messenger. Subsequently, they would initiate a video call on WhatsApp, during which they would stream obscene clips, secretly recording the victim's screen and reactions using screen recording tools," said DCP (crime) Aditya Gautam. The recorded content was then used to blackmail the victim under threats of publicly circulating the video on social media platforms, thereby coercing them into transferring money, said police. The sextortion gang, allegedly led by Jahid (20), targeted victims through compromising videos, with Jayshree (24), a former SBI BPO employee, making calls and luring victims into compromising situations. Raheesh (21), Sohil (18) and Jaiveer (24) were also part of this module, cops said. Another modus operandi of the call centre was to trap people by offering fake bank loans. Initially, the telecallers, under directions from Dilshad Ali, contacted potential victims, offering them attractive loan deals. Once they gained the victim's trust, the telecaller would request identification and other personal documents via WhatsApp. The victim was then asked to make a payment through a QR code scanner under the pretext of file processing fees. After the payment was received, the victim's follow-up messages and calls were ignored. The fraudsters would then switch off their mobile devices and change their contact numbers, effectively cutting off all communication. At the heart of the operation were Ujjawal Pandey (30) and Gaurav Barua (24), who allegedly masterminded the racket. Pandey, owner of a cyber café in Krishna Nagar, began selling fake account kits and SIM cards while Barua, a graduate from Ignou, facilitated pre-activated account kit transactions, said police. Their partnership enabled the smooth functioning of the scam, with Yug Sharma (18) allegedly assisting in supplying fake SIM cards and account kits. Ali employed several telecallers, including Saurav (27), Pravesh (28), Akshita (18), Raunak (24), Dimple (20) and Pinki (24), to pose as loan service representatives and dupe customers into divulging sensitive information. Another key player, Amit, owned the call centres and is absconding. He also supervised operations, cops said.

Gujarat company to replace all 33 crest gates of Tungabhadra dam

Munirabad (Koppal): Of the four companies that vied for the tender to replace all 33 crest gates of the Tungabhadra reservoir, the Gujarat-based Hardware Tools and Machinery Project Company emerged as the winner. The responsibility for replacing the crest gates was entrusted to this company by the Tungabhadra Board, which set a deadline of 15 months for the work to be finished. The bidding process included Gujarat's Anar Company, Hardware Tools and Machinery Project Company, along with Telangana's Swapna Projects Pvt Ltd and Bekem Infra Projects Private Limited. Following a thorough evaluation of technical bids and documentation by the board committee, Hardware Tools and Machinery Project Company bagged the tender. According to Basavaraj L, superintendent engineer of KNNL at the Tungabhadra Project Circle in Munirabad, the tender for the replacement of crest gate 19, which was washed away on Aug 10, 2024, was finalised with the Hardware Tools and Machinery Project Company. Additionally, the tender for the remaining 32 crest gates was also awarded to this company. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of June 2026. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Neuvěřitelné: Kalkulačka okamžitě ukáže hodnotu vašeho domu [podívejte se na to]! tržní hodnota mého domu Kliknout zde Undo The comprehensive project encompasses all 33 crest gates. The 19th gate replacement costs Rs. 1.6 crore, while the remaining 32 gates had an allocated budget of Rs. 52 crore. The company secured the contract with a competitive bid of Rs. 41.4 crore through the e-tender process, significantly under the allocated budget, sources said. A technical assessment led by former Central Water Commission chairman AK Bajaj's committee evaluated the dam's condition and provided safety recommendations. National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) president Anil Jain's subsequent inspection emphasised maintaining reduced water levels during non-destructive testing. Hyderabad-based KSNDT Services conducted comprehensive testing on all gates, including ultrasonic and dye penetration tests, presenting their findings on March 25. Their report indicated a 40-50% reduction in gate thickness from original specifications, necessitating complete replacement. Based on these findings, the Tungabhadra Board opted to replace all gates. The TB Board declared that, while a complete replacement cannot be achieved this year, maintaining water levels 12 to 15 feet above the spill level will provide an adequate supply for single crop cultivation and drinking purposes. Consequently, it was decided to cap water storage at 80 tmc, compared to the reservoir's total capacity of 101 tmc at a height of 1,626 feet.
