With 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' roaring at the Indian box office, Hollywood is back with a bang! Will it overshadow Bollywood movies? All eyes on 'Housefull 5'
It was a happy time for theatres and Hindi cinema as there were three back-to-back successful movies at the box office after a long gap. These movies helped fill in the gap which was there in the last few months and last year when even big films like 'Sikandar' failed to make a mark. However, from April 10 to May 10 onwards, with three back-to-back releases which did well, it was a great month at the box office - with '
Jaat
', 'Kesari 2' and 'Raid 2'. Of course, all eyes were on
Tom Cruise
's 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning'.
The film has done exceptionally well at the box office with a good opening and the Monday numbers are also expected to be good. It released in English, Hindi, Telugu and
Tamil
. Of course, the English version has done the best, followed by the Hindi version of the film. According to Sacnilk, the film made Rs 16.5 crore (all languages combined) at the box office in India, on first day when it released on Saturday. On Sunday it made Rs 17 crore at the box office. On Monday, up till the afternoon shows, it had made Rs 2.99 crore. Thus, the total collection of the film so far, till Monday evening stands at Rs 36.49 crore. The numbers can be expected to be better by Monday night.

One sees that the last year was not extremely good with Hollywood films in India. However, 'Mission Impossible' has proved to encouraging. Trade expert Taran Adarsh told ETimes, "Good films will always find an audience.
Mission Impossible
and Final Destination - one came on Thursday and the Tom Cruise film came on Saturday. Both the films have found an audience, of course Mission Impossible has found a bigger audience. But it's a good sign as people are coming back to theatres."
Film trade expert Girish
Wankhede
says, "The past year had been challenging for Hollywood, with many franchise films and independent projects failing to resonate with audiences, leading to a decline in the popularity of Western cinema. Meanwhile, films from South Korea, China, and Japan have been gaining traction, capturing the attention of Indian viewers. However, the release of 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,' the eighth installment in this beloved action series, has reinvigorated Hollywood's presence in the Indian market. The film's box office success, even amidst competition from titles like 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' underscores its strong draw and the franchise's ability to captivate audiences"
Further elaborating on what helped 'Mission Impossible', he said, "The release of 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' has marked a significant resurgence for Hollywood in India, signaling a potential revival of interest in Hollywood amidst a landscape increasingly dominated by South Indian films. Paramount's strategic decision to debut the film six days ahead of its U.S. release has paid off handsomely, as Indian audiences eagerly anticipated this latest installment of the iconic franchise."
This is the highest opening day number for a Hollywood release in 2025, reveals Wankhede as he adds, "It is the highest opening day of a Hollywood film in 2025, surpassing even the much-anticipated 'Captain America: Brave New World.' This remarkable figure not only eclipsed the opening day collections of
Bollywood
hits like
Akshay Kumar
's 'Kesari 2' and Sunny Deol's 'Jaat,' but it also set the stage for a strong weekend performance. By the end of its second day, the film had amassed a staggering ₹33 crore, showcasing the enduring appeal of the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise and the star power of Tom Cruise."
Did Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning affect Raid 2 over the weekend?
Meanwhile, it did slightly affect the currently running film 'Raid 2' which made Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 5.65 crore on Sunday respectively. Though, this is also a good number in its third weekend. But the current movies will get affected if the Tom Cruise film continues to attract the audiences through positive word of mouth.
Will Hollywood pose a competition for Bollywood?
While a good film will eventually find its audience, one wonders if Hollywood will pose as a competition for Bollywood. There was a time when there were good Hollywood films back-to-back which were doing better than Hindi movies. Later, it was the south which was ruling over Bollywood. Just when Hindi cinema is now beginning to get back its hold at the box office, the success of the Tom Cruise starrer poses a question if Hollywood has the potential to dominate over Hindi movies. Currently, 'Raid 2' is the only Hindi movie working in cinemas. After much conflict,
Rajkummar Rao
, Wamiqa Gabbi starrer '
Bhool Chuk Maaf
' is releasing in theatres on March 23.
However, it's the biggie '
Housefull 5
' which will be a huge test to decide the fate of Hindi movies. Taran Adarsh opines, "You cannot really categorise just because this film is open, just because a particular film does well, doesn't mean that all the films are going to do well. It's a film to film case to case study. But of course, at the moment, 'Mission Impossible' is dominating and it will do so, till the release of 'Housefull 5'. It has an open window till then. But all eyes will be on 'Housefull 5' now."
Wankhende adds, "Bollywood now finds itself at a crossroads, facing stiff competition not only from Hollywood but also from the thriving South Indian film industry. This situation calls for introspection and innovation within Bollywood, as filmmakers are urged to 'pull up their socks' and deliver compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. The success of 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' serves as a wake-up call for Bollywood to elevate its storytelling and production quality, ensuring it remains relevant in an evolving cinematic landscape."
He further concludes, "In conclusion, the triumph of 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' is a clear indicator that Hollywood's days in India may indeed be back, and with the right strategies and storytelling, the competition between Bollywood and Hollywood could lead to a renaissance of creativity and excellence in Indian cinema."

Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan, was released on June 6 amid mixed reviews. Let's find out how much it collected at the box office on the day of its release. But, before that, let's find out how much is at stake. The total budget for Housefull 5 is ₹ 240 crore, according to Pinkvilla. Out of this, ₹ 225 crore was used for production. Even before the film hit cinemas, it earned ₹ 135 crore through non-theatrical deals, the publication added. The digital streaming rights were sold for ₹ 75 crore, TV satellite rights brought in ₹ 40 crore, and the music rights fetched ₹ 20 crore. Just breaking even is not enough to call a film a hit. For Housefull 5 to be considered a success at the box office, it needs to gross at least ₹ 325 crore worldwide, Pinkvilla added. The comedy movie will compete with the previous installment, Housefull 4, the biggest commercial success in Akshay Kumar's Hindi film career with a collection of ₹ ₹ 210.3 crore. It was also the biggest film in Riteish Deshmukh's career. The next two films are Good Newwz ( ₹ 205.09 crore) and Mission Mangal ( ₹ 203.08 crore). For Akshay Kumar, these are the only three Hindi films that collected above ₹ 200 crore. The biggest movie is his career, however, is 2.0. The Tamil movie collected ₹ 744.78 crore worldwide. Housefull 5 has made a strong start at the box office, earning ₹ 23 crore on its opening day. It trails behind Mission Mangal ( ₹ 29.16 crore), Sooryavanshi ( ₹ 26.29 crore) and Gold ( ₹ 25.25 crore). With this performance, Housefull 5 has overtaken the opening figures of other notable Akshay Kumar films like Kesari ( ₹ 21.06 crore), Singh Is Bliing ( ₹ 20.67 crore) and 2.0 (Hindi version, ₹ 20.25 crore).

Where has Samantha Ruth Prabhu's old 'Ye Maaya Chesave' tattoo gone? New pic makes fans wonder if she has embarked on a new beginning
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a celebrated name in South Indian cinema, is gradually reshaping her narrative both personally and professionally. Once known for her romantic association with actor Naga Chaitanya, which began on the sets of Ye Maaya Chesave , Samantha is now making quiet yet powerful choices that reflect her journey of healing and transformation. Recently, fans noticed a significant change that suggests she might be letting go of a symbolic remnant of her past—the 'YMC' tattoo that once adorned her upper back. The couple, who got married in 2017 after a long courtship, ended their marriage in 2021, creating waves across the entertainment industry. Their split, though respectful and dignified, left a lasting impression on fans who had grown fond of their on-screen and off-screen chemistry. Now, four years later, Samantha appears to be gradually erasing visible memories of that chapter. In a recent Instagram reel, Samantha appeared in a striking backless maroon outfit as she scribbled the phrase 'Nothing to Hide' on a glass board. But it wasn't just her poise or the video's creative direction that caught attention. Viewers quickly observed the conspicuous absence of the 'YMC' tattoo on her back—a design she had once proudly displayed. This observation has sparked buzz online, with admirers debating whether the ink has been permanently removed or simply concealed for the camera. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo Samantha's body art has often been a subject of interest among fans. In March 2025, a photo shared by her showed the barely-there remains of another shared tattoo—two arrows on her forearm that once matched Naga Chaitanya's. The fading ink mirrored the emotional distance that had grown between the two stars after their separation. As time progresses, it appears that these tattoos, like old wounds, are slowly fading. Meanwhile, Samantha's personal life continues to draw media attention. Recently, speculation has swirled around her alleged closeness to filmmaker Raj Nidimoru of the Raj & DK duo, known for their acclaimed work on The Family Man, Farzi, and Guns & Gulaabs. Rumours even hinted at the two looking for a home together, following Raj's reported divorce from Shhyamali De in 2022. However, representatives from Samantha's camp have dismissed such claims, calling them unfounded, while neither Raj nor Samantha has addressed the matter publicly. Adding to her creative journey, Samantha recently ventured into film production with the horror-comedy Subham, marking yet another new chapter in her evolving career. From shedding old symbols to embracing new roles, Samantha's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and quiet strength.
