Cape Town cop shot dead outside his home in Muizenberg
A police sergeant in uniform was shot dead outside his home while leaving for work early on Friday in Cape Town.
The 48-year-old officer's body was discovered at 5am outside his home in Vrygrond, Muizenberg.
'He sustained fatal gunshot wounds. At the time of the incident, he was in uniform and en route to report for duty at Wynberg SAPS. His family members, who were inside the residence, were unharmed,' said police spokesperson Col Andrè Traut.
The Hawks were assigned to lead the investigation.
Western Cape police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembisile Patekile said no resource would be spared in the pursuit of those behind the shooting.
'An attack on any member of the SA Police Service will be met with the full force of the law. We will not rest until justice is served,' he said.

Mpumalanga High Court sentences former by-law enforcement officer
A former City of Mbombela by-law enforcement officer, Abednego Desmond Mbuyane (39), was sentenced to 12 years in jail for housebreaking and the murder of his wife's boyfriend, Thamsanqa Sbusiso Nkosi. 'The accused became suspicious of his wife's whereabouts after multiple unanswered phone calls. He tracked the vehicle she was driving using a GPS tracking device, which led him to the lodge. Upon arrival, he identified the room where the vehicle was parked. After knocking and not receiving a response, he forcibly entered the room by kicking the door open. The accused pursued them and shot Nkosi in the head and shoulder, before fleeing the scene. He later handed himself over to the police. The case docket was handed to the Hawks' Nelspruit-based Serious Organized Crime Investigation Unit for further investigation. 'During court proceedings, the Mbuyane pleaded guilty to murder and housebreaking. However, the State rejected the plea because the murder was premeditated. The matter proceeded to trial. State advocate Senzo Zindela led compelling testimony from the accused's wife and an eyewitness, both of whom corroborated the events leading up to the murder. In mitigation, the accused claimed he had no intention to kill and had merely sought to confront his wife,' said Nyuswa. During Mbuyane's sentencing, the court considered that the accused had been in custody since his arrest. He was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for housebreaking and 12 years' imprisonment for murder. The sentences will run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 12 years. WhatsApp group linked to July 2021 unrest lands four in court
The Hawks confirmed that more arrests are imminent. The Roodepoort Magistrates Court has granted R1 500 bail each to four suspects who appeared for incitement to commit public violence in connection with the July 2021 unrest. Bekuyise Cebekhulu, 58, from KwaZulu-Natal; Jimmy Sibeko, 44; Busisiwe Skhosana, 52; and Bogadi Mahisa, 49, from Gauteng, made their first appearance before the court on Tuesday morning. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) authorised arrest warrants for the suspects, who then handed themselves over through their legal representatives. Bail for suspected instigators of July 2021 unrest The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said they arrested the four suspects in connection with the unrest that took place in July 2021. The unrest in 2021 resulted in more than 350 people losing their lives and cost R50 billion in damages. The protests, violence, and looting erupted across the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng provinces following the imprisonment of former president Jacob Zuma. Armed robbers steal state-owned Quantum from Eastern Cape Treasury
Police are searching for two armed robbers who tied up a security guard and stole a state-owned Toyota Quantum minibus from the Treasury offices in Bhisho in the Eastern Cape. The heist was carried out in the early hours of Monday. 'According to reports, two unidentified African male suspects, both armed and wearing balaclavas, entered the guardroom where a security officer was on duty. The first suspect threatened the security officer with a firearm, demanding keys to a state-owned Toyota Quantum minibus parked outside. The officer informed the suspect he did not have the keys,' said police spokesperson Brig Nobuntu Gantana. During the confrontation a second armed suspect entered the room and the security guard was restrained with cable ties. 'Shortly after, the officer observed the second suspect driving away in the vehicle (registration GGL 242 EC). The first suspect then seized the occurrence book register from the scene before fleeing in the stolen Quantum with his accomplice.' The guard was not injured. Arrests have yet to be made.
