Ex-Brazil midfielder Renato Augusto leaves Fluminense
Rio De Janeiro, May 20 (UNI) Former Brazil international midfielder Renato Augusto has parted ways with Fluminense by mutual consent, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Monday.
Fluminense did not give reasons for the 37-year-old's departure in a brief statement on social media.
"Fluminense thanks the player for his contribution during the time he was at the club and wishes him success," the statement read.
Renato, whose contract was due to expire in December, made 36 appearances across all competitions for Fluminense following his January 2024 move from Corinthians.
His 20-year professional career has also included spells at Flamengo, Bayer Leverkusen and Beijing Guoan.
The playmaker was capped 33 times for his country and was a part of the Brazil squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. UNI XC AKT SSP

Tuchel Explains Why Harry Kane May Not Play Until 40 Like Cristiano Ronaldo
Last Updated: The England captain continues to be in great form but coach Tuchel has doubts whether he can maintain his fitness standards like Cristiano Ronaldo. Head coach Thomas Tuchel sent a warning to Harry Kane after the England captain expressed his desire to prolong his playing career as long as possible. Kane, who will turn 32 in July, has his eyes set on the 2026 FIFA World Cup but is also looking to stretch his stint much beyond the quadrennial event. While the Bayern Munich striker is trying to follow in the footsteps of Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Tuchel reckons it would be difficult for him to keep his form and fitness at similar levels. Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, continues to maintain remarkable fitness standards. The 40-year-old is still bagging Golden Boots at the club level apart from major international honours. Ronaldo won the UEFA Nations League with the Portuguese side and is also planning an extension to his Saudi Pro League contract with Al-Nassr, for which he top-scored this season. 'I think it gets more and more difficult in today's game. Cristiano took a step into a league which is not as competitive as the Premier League or Spain, where he played before, as part of keeping his performance up. I think he is always the exception to the rule, we cannot go now from Cristiano Ronaldo and think everyone can play until 39 and 40 in today's game," Tuchel told reporters. 'It will be very demanding, professionalism is a given in today's game, otherwise you have no chance and Harry has this natural ability to score goals." Tuchel's remarks came even as Kane showed no signs of slowing down immediately. The English skipper scored the 450th goal of his professional career to help his team beat 173rd-ranked Andorra 1-0 in the 2027 World Cup qualifying game last Saturday, June 7. 'He scored his 450th goal in the Andorra match, it was a very decisive goal, a very important one and there are at the moment no signs he cannot do it at a high level. How long he can do it, I have not a crystal ball, let's see. He is in a club where they play dominant football, I think that can suit him," said Tuchel. 'Just the outlook until the World Cup, he knows that it is a crucial year for him, also in terms of fitness and being ready to compete in the World Cup in the heat, in the humidity." First Published:

U.S host cities brace for uncertainty ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup
Philadelphia's host city executive for the 2026 World Cup says organizers accept that an immigration crackdown by President Donald Trump's administration may be among the outside events that impact next year's tournament. "There are certainly things that are happening at the national level, the international level, there are going to be geopolitical issues that we don't even know right now that are going affect the tournament next year, so we recognize that we're planning within uncertainty, Meg Kane said Monday at a gathering of the 11 U.S. host city leaders, one year and two days ahead of the tournament opener. The World Cup will be played at 16 stadiums in the U.S., Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 next year, a tournament expanded to 48 nations and 104 games. All matches from the quarterfinals on will be in the U.S., with the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Whether it's the Olympics, whether it's a World Cup, whether it's a Super Bowl, you name it, anytime you've got a major international sporting event, geopolitics is going to have a role, said Alex Vasry, CEO of the New York/New Jersey host committee. Kane said the host committees must adapt to decisions made by others. One of the things that I think we all recognize is that we have to be really good at operating within that uncertainty, Kane said. I think for each of our cities, we want to be prepared to make any person that is coming and makes the decision to come to the United States or come to this World Cup feel that they are welcome. We do not play a role necessarily in what is happening in terms of the decisions that are made. Trump's travel ban on citizens from 12 countries exempted athletes, coaches, staff and relatives while not mentioning fans. We allow for FIFA to continue having constructive conversations with the administrations around visas, around workforce, around tourism, Kane said. FIFA is running the World Cup for the first time without a local organizing committee in the host nation. Asked in late April whether FIFA president Gianni Infantino was available to discuss the tournament, FIFA director of media relations Bryan Swanson forwarded the request to a member of the media relations staff, who did not make Infantino available. Legislation approved by the House of Representatives and awaiting action in the Senate would appropriate $625 million to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for security, planning, and other costs related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 11 U.S. host committees have been consulting with each other on issues such as transportation for teams and VIPs, and for arranging fan fests. At the last major soccer tournament in the U.S., the 2024 Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, started 82 minutes late after fans breached security gates. Certainly we were not involved in the planning or the logistics for that particular match, said Alina Hudak, CEO of the Miami World Cup host committee. She said local police have done an extensive review of the after-action reports related to that in collaboration with the stadium and so all of the things that happened are in fact being reviewed and addressed and I can assure you that everything is being done within our power to make sure that the appropriate measures are being placed, the appropriate perimeters.
