Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw joins elite club with 3,000th strikeout
Clayton Kershaw has officially cemented his name into Los Angeles Dodgers and MLB history. On Wednesday night, the veteran left-hander recorded his 3,000th career strikeout, becoming the 20th pitcher in MLB history to hit the iconic mark.

The moment came in the sixth inning of a dominant outing against the Chicago White Sox, where Kershaw struck out Vinny Capra looking. This milestone adds another legendary chapter to a storied career that has been spent entirely with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to Sean Fitzgerald of IdeaStream, in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Kershaw became just the third pitcher in MLB history to record 3,000 strikeouts with a single franchise, further solidifying his place in Dodgers lore.

The video shows pitch No. 100, perfectly placed on the outer edge of the plate, as Capra was frozen by history in motion.
Kershaw now joins legends like Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez in the exclusive Hall of Fame pitchers discussion. He's just the fourth left-handed pitcher to reach the milestone, trailing only Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton, and CC Sabathia in total career strikeouts among southpaws. His career ERA of 2.51 ranks among the best in the 3000-strikeout club.

At 37, Kershaw's longevity and resilience continue to inspire. After undergoing surgeries last fall, he returned in May and has steadily climbed the ranks. Alabama football may have the answer it needs at punter. With James Burnip, the Crimson Tide's starter for the past four seasons off to the NFL, Alabama had both true freshman Alex Asparuhov and Colorado School of Mines transfer Blake Doud battling for reps. Asparuhov missed the spring with an injury and has used fall camp to get into that "rhythm" and push for playing time. But after both of Alabama's scrimmages, Kalen DeBoer said Doud has set himself apart. "He's really to the point where he was at statistically, kind of what we thought he would be before he transferred," DeBoer said. Doud was RMAC Special Teams Player of the Year with Colorado School of Mines, and led all Division 2 punters with averaging 46.6 yards per kick. Nineteen of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line and 13 were for over 50 yards. DeBoer said Alabama pushes all specialists in its weight program that "forces you to do down before you can go up." Doud, DeBoer said, "definitely had an upward trajectory." And through scrimmages, DeBoer said he's seen that show up on the practice field from Doud. "The first scrimmage, I was impressed given the stadium. I'm like, 'OK, he can sustain this,'" DeBoer said. "He certainly has statistically, and you can even see it visually. You're out there watching, you can see the improvement over the last two weeks." Alabama football opens the 2025 season at Florida State Aug. 30. Sean Strickland handed 6-month suspension for Las Vegas in-cage attack
Repercussions have been handed to Sean Strickland following his in-cage altercation with a regional fighter at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas in June. In a hearing Thursday, the Nevada Athletic Commission agreed to a punishment of a six-month suspension and a $5,000 fine, plus legal fees. The suspension is retroactive to the incident date, which was June 29, meaning Strickland will be eligible to fight again on Dec. 29. Strickland can have the suspension reduced to four and a half months if he completes anger management classes. "Sean Strickland stepped forward. He made this process easy," NAC chairman Dallas Haun said. "He's apologized for his behavior. We appreciate someone stepping up, owning something, and for a resolution to be come to quickly and with all parties in agreement. So, again, thanks to Mr. Strickland. He's made a mistake and he's owned it and we appreciate that." The altercation occurred at the end of a middleweight bout between Luis Hernandez and Miles Hunsinger. After Hernandez submitted Strickland's teammate Hunsinger with a guillotine in Round 2, he began taunting Hunsinger's corner, which led to the former UFC middleweight champion storming the cage to throw punches at Hernandez. UFC welterweight Chris Curtis, Strickland and Hunsinger's teammate, also got involved in the skirmish and was fined $2,500 on Thursday. For the 34-year-old Strickland, this suspension effectively kills the rest of his 2025 fight career unless his suspension is reduced. He last fought in a losing effort when he rematched the now-former champion Dricus du Plessis in February. Strickland's last victory came via a split decision over Paulo Costa in June 2024.

Saints announce Spencer Rattler will start preseason finale, a sign he has inside track on Week 1 job
The New Orleans Saints are one of the few NFL teams yet to announce their Week 1 starter at quarterback. But if the depth chart for Saturday's final preseason game is any indication, second-year pro Spencer Rattler could be the favorite. Rattler will start the team's third and final preseason game Saturday, Saints head coach Kellen Moore announced Thursday. Moore did not make any declarations on whether Rattler will start in Week 1, but he did tell reporters he planned to play as many starters as possible during the contest. Moore also outlined the order in which the quarterbacks will play, with Rattler being followed by rookie Tyler Shough. Jake Haener will serve as the third quarterback during the contest. That certainly seems to hint at Rattler having the inside track on the starting job. As long as he doesn't completely face plant Saturday, it seems likely he'll get the Week 1 starting nod. After selecting Rattler in the fifth-round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Saints pushed the former South Carolina quarterback into action during his rookie season. Rattler appeared in seven games — six starts — in relief of Derek Carr last season. In those games, Rattler completed 57 percent of his passes, with four touchdowns and five interceptions. The Saints weren't content to install Rattler as the full-time starter after the season, and selected Louisville quarterback Tyler Slough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Both players have put up similar numbers thus far in the preseason. Through two games, Rattler has completed 71.4 percent of his passes, with one touchdown against one interception. Shough also has one touchdown and one interception, and has completed 70.6 percent of his passes. With both players posting similar stats, there's room for either Rattler or Shough to walk away with the Week 1 job. But given his experience — and the fact that's he's starting Saturday's game — Rattler should probably be considered the favorite to get the regular-season job for now.
