Union Minister Kiren Rijiju flags off Haj yatris, praises arrangements
New Delhi [India], May 1 (ANI): Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited the Indira Gandhi International airport on Thursday to extend his congratulations and best wishes to departing Haj pilgrims.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Rijiju said, 'I am here at the airport to congratulate the Haj Yatris. Around 400 people will leave today. The management has been good.'
He also informed of the presence of the Deputy Chief of Mission from Saudi Arabia.
On Tuesday, Kiren Rijiju extended his heartfelt wishes to all 1,22,518 pilgrims undertaking the sacred Haj journey. The first flights took off with 288 pilgrims from Lucknow and 262 pilgrims from Hyderabad.
In a post on X, the Union Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India remains committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless Haj pilgrimage. He also prayed for a safe, blessed and spiritually enriching pilgrimage.

Earlier on April 22, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian, inaugurated the orientation-cum-training programme of selected Haj deputationists of Haj 2025 for two days on 22nd and 23rd April, 2025, at SCOPE Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
In his inaugural address, the Minister of State, appreciating the role of Haj deputationists as crucial enablers in successful Haj operations, exhorted the deputationists to perform the duties assigned to them with utmost sincerity and commitment.
In total, 620 deputationists (266 administrative and 354 medical) have been selected this year to assist CGI Jeddah in effective Haj management in Saudi Arabia, to serve Indian Haj pilgrims.
These deputationists have been chosen through a rigorous selection process. During the orientation-cum-training programme, they are trained on various issues, including an overview of Haj operations, the role of deputationists, health issues, crowd and disaster management, and the Haj Suvidha App, before being deputed to Saudi Arabia.
Special emphasis is being placed on acquainting the deputationists with the functioning of the Haj Suvidha App, which was introduced during Hajj 2024 and played a crucial role in disseminating information and addressing grievances of Indian Hajj pilgrims.
Building on the success of the App during Hajj-2024, the Government intends to further realise its potential by effectively providing training to the deputationists.
Furthermore, since the management of the Indian Haj pilgrimage is the largest logistical exercise managed by the Government of India outside the country's borders, the orientation-cum-training programme for Haj deputationists will contribute to helping Indian pilgrims successfully perform Haj. CM Siddaramaiah asserts Karnataka's right to raise Almatti dam height despite Maharashtra's objections
BELAGAVI: In a major development, Chief Minister Siddaramaiahhas taken an aggressive stand with regard to his government's decision to increase the height of Almatti dam from the present 519.60M to 524.256 M. On June 9, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had urged Siddaramaiah in his letter to reconsider the state government's decision to increase the height of Almatti dam, claiming that the rise in dam height would result in floods in areas of Sangli and Kolhapur districts. In his letter to his Maharashtra counterpart written on June 11, Siddaramaiah expressed his government's commitment to increase the dam height. He clarified his government's stand not only on the submergence issues but also on its right to raise Almatti dam height to FRL (Full Reservoir Level) 524.256 M even without waiting for the publication of the award by the Union government under Section 6(1) of the Inter State Water Dispute Act of 1956.

11 years of Modi govt: Infra revolution boosting 'ease of living', says PM
The Union government and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state governments on Wednesday continued to highlight the achievements of the 11 years of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) dispensation, with the Prime Minister posting on social media details of the 'infrastructure revolution' during this period. "It's been 11 years of infrastructure revolution with outstanding infrastructure being added that has enhanced India's growth trajectory," Modi said on X. From railways to highways, ports to airports, India's rapidly expanding infrastructure network is boosting 'Ease of Living' and enhancing prosperity, he said. In another post, Modi said: 'India's push for next-gen infrastructure is powered by sustainability and long-term vision.' It is laying the foundations of a self-reliant India, he said. In a document prepared by the newly launched Press Information Bureau (PIB) Research, the government also pointed to the efficacy of the Pragati (pro-active governance and timely implementation) platform, which was put in place 10 years ago, in fast-tracking of infrastructure projects. It said the most recent meeting of Pragati, which the PM chairs, took place on May 29. This was its 47th meeting since its inception in March 2015. The government said since its launch, over 363 projects have been reviewed under the Pragati initiative, which enables the PM to directly engage with the secretaries of the government and chief secretaries of states via videoconferencing. The government also highlighted the external challenges that it has faced — whether in its response to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism with the Uri surgical strike in 2016, the Balakot air strike of 2019, and Operation Sindoor in 2025 — and how it has dealt with challenges of internal security, such as the threat of Naxalism. In Raipur, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the PM's target of uprooting Naxalism by March next year is being fulfilled. The delimitation of seats and women's reservation will have to be based on the Census-2027 data, and a delimitation commission will have to be set up for the purpose. The Centre, on June 4, announced that the Census will be completed by March 1, 2027, and include enumeration of castes. However, there has been skepticism whether the data would be available in time for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The provisional data for the 2011 Census was released on March 31, 2011, 25 days after its population enumeration phase ended, while the final data was released two years later on April 30, 2013. However, the government is hopeful of completing the process of delimitation by the 2029 polls since the Census-2027 will be the first digital Census, where enumerators will enter data into apps that it can process in real-time, facilitating quicker publication of datasets.
