Phillies Trade Idea Lands Two-Time World Series Champion Closer Aroldis Chapman originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The backend of the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen has been a puzzle piece that Philadelphia has been unable to solve in 2025. Closer Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games for using performance-enhancing drugs 20 games into the season. With the suspension, he is also ineligible to pitch in the postseason.

Alvarado delivered 23 saves for the Phillies across the last two seasons with a 1.74 ERA in 2023. However, the suspension left Philadelphia searching for answers, and they haven't found a reliable one yet.
Philadelphia has six pitchers on their roster with a save this season, including Alvarado, who secured seven saves before his suspension. Jordan Romano leads the team with eight saves on 10 opportunities.
However, Romano has started the season with a 7.40 ERA and hasn't had a save opportunity since May, seemingly losing the trust of his manager.
Four other Phillies pitchers have combined for the other five saves, including starter Taijuan Walker and former starter Matt Strahm.

Strahm, Walker, and Tanner Banks all have an ERA in the 3.60s range, but the late innings have been more difficult. The three have been successful on just four of their nine save opportunities.

The Phillies need a lockdown closer if they want to make a run in the playoffs again, and there are a few names out there they could go after before the trade deadline.
Two-time World Series champion and seven-time All-Star Aroldis Chapman is one of them. Chapman has always been a dominant closer in his 15-year MLB career, but he's been stellar with the Boston Red Sox in 2025.
After six seasons with the New York Yankees and three All-Star appearances, Chapman bounced around the league for a few years. Boston signed him at age 37 and has gotten some of the best production of his career with 11 saves so far in 2025.
Chapman could be a massive addition to the Phillies' bullpen to give them a reliable closer and depth. Philadelphia could let their other relievers go back to less stressful innings where they performed well, and give the ninth inning to a proven player in the clutch.

Fever Player Makes 'Trouble' Admission About New Photo With Caitlin Clark

Fever Player Makes 'Trouble' Admission About New Photo With Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It wasn't just Caitlin Clark who was out of action for the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. Clark, who is expected to miss at least one more game with a quad injury, was joined on the sidelines by offseason recruit Sophie Cunningham, who was unable to suit up against the Washington Mystics due to an ankle issue. Advertisement Both guards were relegated to the bench on Tuesday as they were left with no choice but to play the role of cheerleaders for their squad. Cunningham caught wind of a photo of herself and Clark from the game. In it, the two are shown in the Jumbotron at Gainbridge Fieldhouse with similar worrying expressions on their faces. "Why do we look like we got in trouble???" Cunningham commented on the photo. Clark and Cunningham were snapped during a crucial juncture in the game. At that point in time, there were less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter as the Fever held on to a precarious five-point lead. Indiana improved to 3-4 after Tuesday's victory, and they will now prepare to face their biggest rivals, the Chicago Sky, in a road game on Saturday. Clark won't be available for that matchup, and it remains to be seen at this point if Cunningham will be able to play against Angel Reese and Co. Cowboys' Dak Prescott Lauds Tyler Guyton's 'Huge Step'

Cowboys' Dak Prescott Lauds Tyler Guyton's 'Huge Step' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton knew what was at stake after his inconsistent rookie season, which left more questions than answers about whether he was the right guy to be Dak Prescott's blindside protector. Advertisement But this offseason, Guyton has gotten with the program. He's changed his diet, is stretching more, and Prescott has taken notice. With a new-look offensive line that will have three first-round picks, none have the question marks over them like Guyton does, with the left tackle position one of the utmost importance to Prescott. And while we have only seen snippets at OTAs and minicamp, Prescott has seen everything, and he's picking up what Tyler's putting down. 'Guyton's made a huge step, and it's in the mentals,' Prescott said. 'It's in his approach, it's in his preparation, it's in the way that he's taking care of his body working out and practicing so not going to be surprised with the jump that he makes this year because I've watched every step in the process that he's put into this and excited for him.' Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports That's more like it. Advertisement With Guyton and Tyler Booker, Dallas' last two first-round picks, to go with "veteran" Tyler Smith, second-year center Cooper Beebe and a rejuvenated Terence Steele, Prescott's front five appears, on paper, to be in good shape. Granted, we haven't seen the unit work in pads yet, so Oxnard will be telling in how they function as a group, but all eyes will be on Guyton. Yes, he stonewalled Micah Parsons last offseason, but that didn't translate onto the field. Guyton has made all the right changes in the hope of improving in Year 2. Let's see if his arrow can continue to trend upward as the months go by. Mike Tomlin's Long-Term Steelers Future Isn't Certain

Mike Tomlin's Long-Term Steelers Future Isn't Certain originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Over the past few years, questions have swirled about whether the Pittsburgh Steelers would ever move on - or maybe consider a trade - for head coach Mike Tomlin. Advertisement Tomlin is set for his 19th season as the Steelers' head coach, and the franchise reportedly shut down the Chicago Bears' attempt to strike a deal this offseason. As for Tomlin's contract situation, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero mentioned it's a "year-to-year" situation during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. When Eisen asked Pelissero to clarify, Pelissero said it's really uncharted territory. 'My belief is Mike Tomlin will be the head coach of the Steelers for as long as he wants to be,' Pelissero said. 'But he's entering his 19th year. There is not a lot of precedent in the modern NFL – Bill Belichick aside – for somebody going on 20 years with one team. It just doesn't happen.' But … Advertisement 'Mike Tomlin, we all know, has never had a losing season in Pittsburgh,' the reporter continued. 'He has a lot of influence over all aspects of the organization personnel. Look no further than Aaron Rodgers, who Mike Tomlin stumped for from the start …' The Steelers finally landed Rodgers in June, 70 days after his initial meeting with the team. It was a massive get for the Steelers, if Rodgers chose to go elsewhere or retire, the quarterback situation with the Steelers would have been dire. Rodgers will likely be here for just one season. And his coach? Pelissero explained, "Every year, we have a story of some team reaching out on Mike Tomlin, 'Could you end up trading for him?' Every year, there's some level of rumblings about, could Mike Tomlin decide to do something else? Could he go into broadcasting? There's a lot of different things that he could choose to do. …' Advertisement The Steelers have long held a reputation for continuity. But with the current situation, results will be paramount. 'The results influence everything here,' Pelissero said. 'Mike Tomlin's own wishes influence things. I don't foresee – and nothing about the history of the Rooney family would indicate that they would fire Mike Tomlin. I talked with Art Rooney about this last summer. What he said was, my standard is as long as the locker room is still listening to the coach and we believe in the coach, there's no reason to make a change.@ Still … If Tomlin doesn't have success moving forward with the Steelers? Or what if he's the one who wants a change? Advertisement 'When the calls keep coming on Mike Tomlin and when you're coming up on 20 years as a head coach, it's only natural that at sometime, everything is going to come to an end." Pelissero said. "Mike Tomlin will be the one in all likelihood to choose when that comes. We'll see how this season goes and I'm sure we'll be talking about the future again in December.'
