No regrets on entering politics, says MP Shashi Tharoor
'Not at all,' he said when asked whether he ever regretted entering politics. 'In politics, you can make decisions and implement policies that impact millions. That is the true power of politics. I have no intention to quit, unless age forces me to,' he said.
Diabetologist Dr Banshi Saboo was conferred with the P Kesavadev Diabscreen Kerala Award at the event organised by the P Kesavadev Trust. Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan presented the awards. He commended Dr Saboo for his work in diabetes care and awareness and congratulated Tharoor on his literary accomplishments, particularly his works about India.
Tharoor praised author Kesavadev and his contribution in elevating the literary landscape by highlighting the lives of ordinary people.
Dr Saboo spoke about type 1 diabetes in children and advocated for introducing health science as a subject in schools.

Cong padayatra devoid of public support: BJP MLA
Hyderabad: Launching a scathing critique of the Congress-led government, BJP MLA and BJPLP Whip Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta on Tuesday described the ongoing Congress padayatra as disconnected from public sentiment and devoid of genuine support. Addressing media persons at the BJP state office, Gupta asserted that the padayatra had become an exercise in political posturing rather than a reflection of people's concerns. Gupta claimed that the Congress was attempting to mask its administrative shortcomings by highlighting its accomplishments over the past 20 months, which, he alleged, were insignificant. 'People are asking—what has the Congress truly delivered in these months? Their padayatra does not resonate with public expectations,' he remarked. He accused the Congress of failing to honor promises made before the 2023 elections, including monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for women aged 18 and above, the distribution of electric scooters to students, and pension benefits for the elderly and widows. Gupta said these unfulfilled assurances had led to widespread disillusionment. On the issue of backward class (BC) representation, the BJP leader criticized the Congress for not implementing 42% reservation in the cabinet and questioned the rationale behind including Muslims in the BC quota. Referring to recent appointments, he noted that none of the five RTI commissioners announced were from BC communities. Gupta also raised concerns about the state's handling of welfare schemes, citing irregularities in Kalyana Lakshmi disbursements and insufficient budget allocations under the Kamareddy Declaration for BCs. He alleged that Congress had created a health and nutrition crisis in government residential schools and failed to reimburse Rs 6,000 crore in educational fees for BC students. On the alleged Kaleshwaram scam, he demanded a CBI inquiry. He criticized the Justice PC Ghosh Commission's report for lacking clarity. He claimed the inflated cost of motors exposed collusion between Congress and BRS. Gupta predicted electoral backlash against Congress in the upcoming local polls, asserting that the BC community would rally to defeat the party. 'Governance should build trust, not rely on theatrics like padayatras,' he said.

BRS in damage control mode as Harish exposes chinks in KLIS report
Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Tuesday said that Revanth Reddy was ruling the state only to harass their party Chief K Chandrashekar Rao and alleged that the government has released a cooked-up report without facts. The BRS leader on Tuesday made a power point presentation on 'Congress Conspiracies on Kaleshwaram Project Commission's Distortions vs Facts' at Telangana Bhavan which was shown in the district party offices to create awareness among the party leaders. Harish Rao alleged that Revanth Reddy had thrown governance to the winds and was engaging in political vendetta. He alleged that they have released a cooked-up report without facts. To get bills cleared, they are demanding 10–12 per cent commissions. The BJP and Congress were colluding to carry out this vendetta. Stating that the Polavaram project collapsed three times on Godavari River but no NDSA has gone there, but the moment a minor incident happened at Medigadda, the NDSA rushed there. 'Notices do not reach us, but leaks are given to the media beforehand. This entire commission inquiry appears to be driven by conspiracy. Once this 665-page report is tabled in the Assembly, we will corner the government. We will place the real facts before the people,' said Harish Rao, alleging that out of 665 pages, the government picked only selective points to show. This is a one-sided report based only on what they wanted to see and hear. It is a baseless report, he expressed. The BRS leader said that many commissions were set up in this country before and they do not stand in courts of law. Even in the past, several political leaders were targeted through commissions. During Congress rule, why was even a fistful of soil not laid at Thammidihatti? There was no water availability there. There is rich biodiversity, and objections came from Maharashtra. That is why no project was built at that site. Rao pointed out that through Mission Kakatiya, thousands of tanks were restored and the pending projects were transformed into running projects. They only carried bags of commissions to Delhi – did nothing else, he accused. 'When Cotton Barrage was built, a commission was set up to harass him. Yet, Cotton remains in the hearts of the Godavari people. Likewise, KCR will forever remain like a God in the hearts of Telangana people. Kaleshwaram is truly a boon – even Revanth Reddy knows this,' said Rao. If someone claims Kaleshwaram has collapsed, how can they then say water will be brought to Gandhamalla? Stating that there was no secrecy in the Kaleshwaram project and every detail was in the DPR. 'Our only aim was to provide water to farmers. Within one year, we secured all approvals for the Kaleshwaram project. Eleven central government agencies gave their clearances for the project. All the required permissions for a project were obtained. Then who is the Commission blaming now? Will the Commission blame the Centre and the agencies that gave these approvals?' questioned Rao.

BJP chief blames state govt for urea shortage
Hyderabad: BJP Telangana state president N. Ramchander Rao asked people to be watchful of the deceitful tactics of the Congress party and its government in the State. On Tuesday, he alleged that the ongoing shortage of urea in the state was not due to a lack of supply from the Centre but stemmed from black marketing and mismanagement by the Telangana government. He accused state authorities of enabling middlemen and creating artificial scarcity despite adequate supplies sanctioned by the Modi government for the ongoing Rabi season. Addressing party workers at a public meeting in Peddapalli, Rao said that the Centre had supplied sufficient quantities of urea to meet farmers' needs. 'Instead of ensuring transparent distribution, the state government is promoting black marketing of fertilisers,' he charged. Rao also highlighted various developmental and welfare programmes initiated by the Centre for farmers. He stated that nearly Rs 20,000 crore worth of projects have been undertaken in Peddapalli constituency alone, aimed at infrastructure, irrigation, and agricultural support. In a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Rao accused him of political theatrics by staging a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. 'He is fully aware that his government cannot implement 42% reservations for backward classes, and yet he blames the Centre to conceal his own inefficiency,' Rao said. The BJP leader urged grassroots party functionaries—including district, mandal, and booth-level cadres—to mobilise effectively and work in coordination for the upcoming local body elections. He emphasised the need for collective effort to secure victory and strengthen the BJP's presence across the region. As part of the party's expansion strategy, Rao welcomed Nalla Manohar Reddy, a former BRS leader, and over 300 workers from BRS and Congress into the BJP fold. The new members were inducted in the presence of Rao, who presented them with party scarves, underscoring the BJP's growing support base in the district. Earlier in the day, Rao was brought to the meeting venue in a procession that passed through the main roads of Peddapalli. He received a rousing welcome at Sultanabad before proceeding to the gathering. The roadshow witnessed participation from local leaders and supporters, reflecting the party's efforts to intensify outreach in rural and semi-urban pockets. Rao's visit to Peddapalli marks the beginning of his three-day tour covering Mancherial, Komaram Bheem-Asifabad. The tour is aimed at assessing organisational readiness and building momentum ahead of elections.
