City centre pedestrianisation works and Bradford Live win big at awards ceremony
The refurbished former Odeon building, which is due to officially open next month, won the Conservation and Regeneration award at the Yorkshire Constructing Excellence awards on Thursday evening.
And the work that has seen much of Bradford city centre pedestrianised won Infrastructure Project of the Year – and then nabbed the Best of the Best award at the end of the ceremony at Leeds Royal Armouries.
The two winning projects will now compete in a national awards ceremony later this year.

Bradford Live beat numerous other projects, including two more from Bradford. Darley Street Market and the Shipley Sustainable Community Hub in the same category. They also faced non-Bradford projects like the refurbishment of Hull's Maritime Museum and Leeds City College Mabgate Campus.
The city centre pedestrianisation project beat schemes including work to Armley Gyratory, the Copley Flood Alleviation Scheme and Filey Seawall repairs.

It was undertaken by Balfour Beatty on behalf of Bradford Council and was funded through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transforming Cities Fund.
Work by Balfour Beatty to re-open Bradford Interchange after a year-long closure had been shortlisted for the Integration and Collaborative Working Award, and although it didn't win the category it was named 'highly commended.'
Organised annually by the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing at Leeds Beckett University, the awards are a celebration of the built environment and the construction industry.

Scott Donson, Portfolio Director at Balfour Beatty, commented: 'Winning this award is a fantastic recognition of our teams' hard work and commitment. Adam Copland, Associate from Turner & Townsend, who were appointed by Bradford Live to project manage the redevelopment the former Odeon, said: 'This was an incredible scheme to be part of, creating an iconic entertainment venue that that will contribute to Bradford city centre's regeneration.'
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport said: 'There is so much going on in the Bradford district that we are now finding that we're competing against ourselves at these kind of awards.
'Winning and being shortlisted for these awards is a great credit to all our staff and partners who have worked so hard on these amazing projects, and nice to receive the recognition of all that work on top of the fantastic public feedback we've had so far.'

Businesses in Colchester and Tendring told to improve after poor hygiene ratings
HYGIENE is important to the success of any company that deals with food. Over the last couple of months, there are five businesses in Colchester and Tendring which have received poor ratings after being inspected by the Food Standards Agency (FDA). Prince and Princess of Wales to move into new home
The Prince and Princess of Wales are to move into a new home in Windsor, it has been confirmed. William and Kate are moving to eight-bedroom Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park, with their children George, Charlotte and Louis. A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: "The Wales family will move house later this year." According to The Sun, the royal couple are paying for the property and renovations themselves, avoiding any extra cost to the taxpayer. Images inside the home taken at the time showed the property boasted original stonework, elaborate plaster cornices and ceiling decoration ,and a half-barrel vaulted hallway ceiling. The Wales' move will be a short one from their current main home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, and the children attend nearby Lambrook School. They also have homes at Anmer Hall in Norfolk and Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace in London. As heir to the throne, William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall estate, a portfolio of land, property and investments valued at more than £1 billion, when his father became King. According to The Sun, Forest Lodge would be worth about £16m on the open market. The freehold is owned by the King.

HMRC confirms change that will give taxpayers lower interest rates in days
HMRC has announced the dates its new interest rates will take effect. Depending on the payment plan used by taxpayers, the dates for the diary were August 18 and 27. The change follows the Bank of England's recent base rate cut, the Mirror reports. READ MORE: 'New garden shed tax' warning as householders urged to check if they're affected The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee declared a drop in the base rate on August 7. It will drop from 4.25 per cent to four per cent, marking the lowest it has been since March 2023. The base rate sets the tone for interest rates for building societies and banks. It impacts everyone from savers to homeowners, credit card holders and HMRC. Changes to HMRC's interest rates will affect those making late tax payments or receiving repayments on their bill. The current interest rates charged on these payments stand at 8.25 per cent and 3.25 per cent respectively. The late payment interest rate, which is calculated as the base rate plus four per cent, will drop to eight per cent following the Bank of England's change. Repayment interest rates, calculated as the base rate minus one per cent, will now drop to three per cent. The interest rates for quarterly instalment payments will fall on August 18. Meanwhile non-quarterly instalment payments will not benefit from the new rates until August 27. The interest rates were designed to incentivise people to pay tax on time and avoid the late payment interest. The repayment rate aims to fairly compensate taxpayers for any loss incurred due to overpayments. Late payment interest rates hit a record high of 8.5 per cent earlier this year - a level not seen since February 2000, according to HMRC data.
