Suspect in Saint John shooting charged with 1st-degree murder
A 20-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of another 20-year-old man in uptown Saint John on Tuesday morning.
Police announced Wednesday afternoon that Hayden Donald-Bentley appeared in provincial court. He was remanded into custody and will appear in court next on May 21.
"Another suspect, a youth, has been arrested, is currently in police custody, and will be appearing in provincial court," the release said.
A third suspect has been identified but remains at large, police said. The major crime unit continues to investigate.
On Tuesday, police were called about shots fired near the corner of Carmarthen Street and King Street East at about 10:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, police found a deceased 20-year-old man in a parking lot near King's Square.
Police have not given any information about the victim, the murder weapon used, or if the suspect still at large poses any risk to the public. CBC News has reached out to a Saint John police spokesperson and is awaiting a response.
On Tuesday morning, police issued a shelter-in-place warning for the area around the crime scene and later for a neighbourhood on the city's west side. By the afternoon, they issued an alert with a photo of three suspects.

Toronto police identify boy, 15, fatally shot on weekend in Weston
Social Sharing Toronto police have identified a 15-year-old boy who died in hospital after he was shot in Weston neighbourhood on Saturday night. Jahkai Jack, of Toronto, was shot near Emmett Avenue and Jane Street, police said in a news release on Wednesday. Officers were called to the area shortly after 10 p.m. When police arrived, they found him outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Winnipeg school's tipi stolen during National Indigenous History Month

According to Jean-Paul Rochon, principal at Angus McKay School, a tipi was set up on the school grounds for a two-week land-based learning residency. In an emailed statement, Rochon said the tipi was stolen during the early hours of Tuesday morning, prompting a police report to be filed. He said the tipi was also set up to acknowledge National Indigenous History Month, the summer solstice on June 20, and Indigenous People's Day on June 21. 'Further, it was a visual reminder of our commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous communities whose children attend Angus McKay,' said Rochon. In a post to social media, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs said, 'The theft of this special tipi has deeply impacted an important learning and reconciliation opportunity for the school and community.' The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is asking for anyone with information to contact Angus McKay School.
