The only downside to this otherwise delightful routine? Having to forgo becoming engulfed in a full-on blanket burrito, relinquishing my arms to the cold air of the room in order to 1) hold my Kindle and 2) turn its virtual pages.

The first order of business is selecting the right Kindle holder. A quick Amazon search reveals that most Kindle holders are pretty similar — some attach to your bed frame, others stand on the floor — but since my aforementioned NYC apartment is short on space, I went with the former, ultimately landing on the Lamicall Gooseneck Tablet Mount.
This mount, which could technically be used to hold any tablet, can be affixed to furniture via an adjustable clamp. I personally have mine secured onto my bed frame's headboard, but I could also see someone attaching this to the lower part of their bed frame or even their nightstand. Then, you can twist the flexible arm to allow your e-reader of choice to hover in front of your face at whatever distance and position suits you.
I originally purchased an all-white version years ago that's no longer available, but it doesn't matter, because the new version available on Amazon is better. I recently upgraded to the new model in gray and found that this holder's arm is even easier to position exactly right, and I appreciate that the part of the mount that holds the tablet can also swivel 360 degrees and tilt up and down so that no matter which way you lie, your screen is in sight.
Even when reading isn't on the agenda, I could totally see this mount being useful for watching movies on an iPad in bed, following recipes in the kitchen or being an extra display at a desk. It's easy enough to screw into place that using it all around your home should be a breeze.
Of course, a mount alone only solves the problem halfway; you'll still need to tap the screen to turn the page on an e-reader. And with the Lamicall specifically (though I imagine most mounts would present a similar issue), when you tap the screen, the device tends to wobble a bit — not ideal for a seamless reading experience.
That's where the SK SYUKUYU Remote Control Page Turner — which has more than 11,000 reviews and a high 4.4-star rating, way more than other Bluetooth page turners on Amazon — comes in. Once I tried it for myself, I was hooked for a few reasons.
First, it's incredibly easy to set up and use. Simply attach the clip part directly onto your Kindle — I'm careful to attach it toward the middle of the Kindle in a margin so that it doesn't interfere at all with the text — and press the button on the back to turn it on. That's it. You're ready to click the button on the remote to turn the page. So if you were feeling daunted by a Bluetooth remote because of a presumed complicated setup process, don't.
Also, the curvy shape of this remote is surprisingly ergonomic and feels good in the hand. I actually can't count the amount of times I've fallen asleep holding this remote (and woken up to my Kindle screen mere inches away from my face), and my only pain point, really, is that I've subsequently lost a few remotes in my bed, which could have been avoided if I'd actually used the included wrist strap. Did I buy a few extra SK SYUKUYUs to have on hand in case of remotes lost in a sea of blankets? The answer is not no.

The subtle hints Apple has dropped about its future products
On the rare occasions Apple has allowed visitors inside its secretive product design labs, gray blankets covered the tables, shielding any future products from prying eyes. So what might be under the cloth? Apple is famously secretive about what's around the corner, but it's left some breadcrumbs here and there for the careful observer. CEO Tim Cook and other executives have dropped subtle hints in recent years on earnings calls and in interviews. Other times, Cook or other execs will be asked about the competition or what Apple's role in a future product category could look like, and their answers help signal how the company may position itself in the coming years. The iPhone's role in a world with AI devices During Apple's recent fiscal third-quarter earnings call on July 31, for example, Cook was asked about a potential future where screen-based devices become secondary to AI-powered gadgets without screens. To that, Cook highlighted some of the iPhone's most essential uses, like the camera, Apple Pay, and available apps. In short, Cook appeared to suggest the iPhone isn't going anywhere. "It's difficult to see a world where iPhone's not living in it," Cook told investors. "That doesn't mean that we are not thinking about other things as well, but I think that the devices are likely to be complementary devices, not substitution," Cook said. The elephant in the room, of course, is that Apple's former design chief and the man behind the iPhone, Jony Ive, left the company and has since joined OpenAI's efforts to create a non-wearable AI gadget. Smart glasses Other companies are exploring or launching AI devices that you can wear, investing heavily in the space. Meta's AI Ray-Bans are the most successful smart glasses so far, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying sales have exceeded expectations. While Meta and other tech giants like Google are looking into AI eyewear, Apple is also reportedly exploring a rival set of smart specs. Interestingly enough, Cook was once a skeptic of smart glasses for years. "We always thought that glasses were not a smart move, from a point of view that people would not really want to wear them," Cook told the New Yorker in 2015. By 2023, he'd changed his tune. When GQ asked about his quote from 10 years ago, Cook said his "thinking always evolves," as he learned from his predecessor Steve Jobs. Cook continues to hype up augmented reality, with the Apple CEO launching the $3,499 Vision Pro in 2024 and saying it was the "early innings of AR" and that "it will only get better." When asked about smart glasses on its most recent earnings call, Cook used the opportunity to talk about the Vision Pro but hinted at further innovation in the wearables space. "We continue to be very focused on it," Cook said. "I don't want to get into the road map on it, but this is an area that we really believe in." Apple is widely believed to be hard at work shrinking down the form factor and making future iterations more affordable, with the ultimate goal of smart glasses with integrated lenses. Meta has publicly shown off a prototype of such a device, called "Orion," though the tech is too expensive to mass-produce. A foldable iPhone or iPad While competitors, like OpenAI, work on their own secretive new products, Apple is taking its signature approach to not rush into a new product category. "Not first, but best," as Cook likes to say. It's a strategy that worked for devices like the iPod, the iPhone, and the Apple Watch, but it comes with risk. Apple was notably late to the AI arms race with the rollout of Apple Intelligence, and its overhauled AI-powered Siri has been delayed. Foldable phones are another product category that Apple's rivals including Google, Huawei, and Samsung have already entered. Apple is reportedly working on foldable devices but has so far demurred when publicly asked about it publicly. When Apple executives Craig Federighi and Greg Joswiak were recently asked in an interview about it, Joswiak replied, "Who's to say?" When Cook was asked during Apple's fiscal first-quarter earnings call about the iPhone's form factor and opportunities to innovate, he hinted that there was. "I think there's a lot of innovation left on the smartphone," Cook said.

Apple's New Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy Could Be a Genius Move
Key Points Apple's artificial intelligence strategy appears to have been a failure so far. AI features haven't been a huge selling point for its iPhones -- at least, not yet. Apple could buy a generative AI company to accelerate its AI development timeline. 10 stocks we like better than Apple › It's no secret that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has been a laggard in the artificial intelligence (AI) arms race. It has been outpaced every step of the way by its Android competitors. Additionally, the gap only seems to be getting wider and wider. However, Apple may be implementing a new strategy that could be a genius move. On the conference call for the fiscal third quarter of 2025, ended June 28, Apple CEO Tim Cook commented about the company's new AI strategy, and it may be enough to vault Apple from an AI laggard to an AI leader. Apple could be open to acquiring a generative AI company During Apple's quarterly conference call, Cook said Apple is open to acquiring an AI company. If it acquired an AI leader, then it could rapidly accelerate its development pace. He also mentioned that it's not focused on a specific size, which could indicate management could be going after one of the larger generative AI companies. Some of the businesses on the short list that Apple could acquire are OpenAI, Perplexity, and Anthropic. These three tend to be among the best generative AI models that aren't already associated with a parent company (like xAI's Grok or Google's Gemini). However, an acquisition for these wouldn't come cheap. All three of these companies are currently private, so we have relatively limited data to establish the value of the company. According to the most recent reports for each company, OpenAI was last valued at $300 billion, Anthropic at $170 billion, and Perplexity at $18 billion. At the end of Q3, Apple's cash and short-term investments totaled over $55 billion. So, while it could probably flex its muscle and scoop up OpenAI or Anthropic at an extreme price tag, an acquisition of a company like Perplexity is probably more likely. This also would make the most sense, as OpenAI is currently partnered with Microsoft and Anthropic is linked to Amazon. With Perplexity's relatively low valuation compared to its peers, Apple could scoop it up in an all-cash deal and immediately be in a great position in the AI arms race. I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal like this get announced within the next year, and it may not be with Perplexity; it could be with another generative AI competitor. However, I think this route is likely as Apple has already fallen well behind its peers in this realm. But the question is, does Apple need AI to sell its products? Apple's revenue growth is already returning despite its AI product lineup During Q3, Apple did something it hasn't done in some time: produce double-digit revenue growth (as long as you round up). Apple has been stuck in a rut since 2022, and now it's finally showing some signs of life, despite having little AI featured compared to its peers. The question then becomes: Do AI features matter to consumers? This could be a hotly debated topic, as most users likely aren't using the AI capabilities of Android phones, and Apple users may not care. But there could be a time someday when users are comfortable using AI features, and the specific AI model on a phone becomes a huge selling point. We're not there yet, so Apple still has some time to catch up in the AI arms race. However, we'll reach that point eventually, and if Apple doesn't do something major, like acquire an AI company, it could be left in the dust over the long term, even if it isn't feeling the pain right now. I think Apple's new strategy could be genius if it makes a move to acquire a company like Perlexity, and the entire investment thesis surrounding Apple would improve overnight. But if it fails to do so, Apple could be on the outside looking in a few years from now. Should you buy stock in Apple right now?
